Abstract

In recent years, some universities have required their students to publish scientific papers as one of the graduation requirements. These scientific papers can be in the form of articles published in scientific journals or in proceedings. Several factors affect the success of students in writing these scientific papers. One of them is writing anxiety. The study aims to investigate EFL students’ writing anxiety when writing scientific papers. The respondents were English Education and English Literature Study Program students (N=61). The data were collected with a questionnaire. The study found that the students have a moderate level of writing anxiety. The mean score of anxiety is 61.82, indicating a moderate level of writing anxiety. Somatic anxiety score ranged from 8.00 to 35.00, with a mean of 20.10 and a standard deviation of 5.29, while avoidance anxiety showed a mean of 17.80 with a standard deviation of 4.10. Cognitive anxiety scores ranged from 17.00 to 36.00, with a mean of 23.92. This was the highest mean score, followed by somatic anxiety, with avoidance being the least prevalent. The results of this study show that the majority of EFL students experience significant levels of anxiety when writing scientific papers for publications, and the three types of anxiety, namely cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, and avoidance behavior, play roles in the general level of writing anxiety. Implications of these findings suggest that educational institutions should provide academic support, particularly in helping students develop effective strategies to manage cognitive anxiety and improve topic selection processes, which could lead the students to enhance their writing performance and have a greater likelihood of successful publication.

Abstract

This study analyzes an episode of the "Close the Door" podcast by Deddy Corbuzier, featuring comedian Komeng, with a focus on Grice's cooperative principle and Attardo's humor theory. The research aims to identify instances where conversational maxims—quantity, quality, relevance, and manner—are flouted to create humor. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study examines transcribed segments of the podcast episode. The findings reveal that the maxim of relevance was the most frequently flouted, appearing in 44.4% of cases, followed by the maxim of quantity at 33.3%. The maxims of quality and manner were each flouted in 11.1% of instances. These floutings often served to introduce humor through unexpected or exaggerated responses, engaging the audience and enhancing the podcast's entertainment value. This analysis contributes to the understanding of how conversational norms are strategically flouted in comedic contexts to generate humor. Further research is suggested to explore these aspects across different cultural and media settings, potentially incorporating quantitative methods to broaden the scope of analysis. This study provides insights into the linguistic strategies employed in digital media to engage audiences, highlighting the role of humor in communication.

Abstract

This ethnographic study examines how the cultural backgrounds influence stress management among Sundanese, Chinese, and Javanese officers in the Directorate General of X. Through a qualitative ethnographic approach, data were gathered via in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis to uncover the unique stress management methods employed by each cultural group. The findings demonstrate that Sundanese officers focus on work-life balance and rely on supportive social networks, guided by the values of "Silih Asah, Silih Asih, Silih Asuh," which emphasize care, support, and self-improvement. Chinese officers prioritize discipline, hard work, and harmony, using structured task management and involving senior colleagues in decision-making, influenced by Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhist beliefs. Javanese officers rely on spirituality and empathy, following "Tepa Selira" principles, which promote understanding and respect in relationships, and include prayer and parental guidance in stress coping strategies. Despite these distinct methods, all three cultural groups emphasize the importance of support systems, in the workplace. This study suggests that understanding these cultural approaches can help organizations design culturally sensitive support systems to enhance employee well-being and performance. Future research could expand these findings by including more participants and diverse work settings to better understand culturally influenced stress management across Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are the country's foreign exchange heroes who generate remittances, by rotating funds (wages) from the results of work abroad. Coastal areas have their own characteristics because they have distinctive potential as marine tourism that holds the potential for the development of productive businesses in coastal areas. This potential needs to be balanced with the ability to manage the potential of marine resources. However, the problems experienced by them such as inequality of remittance management practices and social problems. This study aims to determine the implementation of the development of migrant workers and their families in coastal areas from the bottom through theBuilding Indonesian Workforce Families program or BK-TKI program, this is a strengthening of migrant workers families so that they can reduce difficulties in managing remittances, avoid vulnerable conditions because migrant workers' families are left behind to work, and the possibility of migrant workers returning to work abroad for the next period so that migrant workers and their families are declared out of the poverty chain after implementing the program. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach and analyzed with Robert K. Merton's structural functionalism theory. Data on the conditions of implementation of the BK-TKI program in coastal communities were obtained for 3 months. The results show that the implementation of the BK-TKI program in this region only has 2 pillars running, namely the pillar of economic empowerment and guaranteeing the rights of migrant workers' children.

Abstract

Modul score are scores obtained from theoretical exams in the form of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) which have a large portion in determining graduation. The achievement of module scores can be influenced by many factors, one of which is the level of anxiety. Anxiety during exams is known to inhibit cognitive function which affects performance during exams so that it can affect the results obtained. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of anxiety and the value of the mental health problem module in FK Unissula students class of 2021. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional research design conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung. Respondents were asked to complete the Nist and Diehl Test Anxiety Questionnaire questionnaire consisting of 10 questions. The data obtained were analyzed with the spearman correlative test to determine the meaning and strength of the relationship between anxiety levels and module scores. The results of the study from 140 samples found that most students who were not anxious got good grades with a percentage of 63.1%, students who were mildly anxious the majority got enough scores with a percentage of 36.2% and students who were severe anxious about the majority got less scores with a percentage of 56%. The results of the bivariate analysis test using the spearman correlative test obtained a p value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The correlation coefficient between anxiety levels and module scores was 0.391. The level of anxiety significantly affects the value of the mental health problem module in FK UNISSULA students batch 2021 with weak correlation strength.
