Abstract

Marriage in Balinese society has traditionally been regarded as a sacred institution, deeply rooted in religious values and customary law. However, over the past few decades, significant shifts have occurred as a result of modernization, globalization, and broader social changes. One phenomenon that reflects this transformation is Sing Beling Sing Nganten, a vernacular expression increasingly circulated in contemporary Balinese discourse. The phrase refers to the social tendency wherein a couple formalizes their marriage only after the bride is already pregnant. This practice signifies a fundamental shift in the construction of marital sanctity, challenging earlier conceptions of marriage as a purely sacred and ritually-bound institution. It also suggests the emergence of a new paradigm in how marriage legitimacy is socially recognized within the Balinese context. This study employs a phenomenological approach to explore individual experiences and collective perceptions of the Sing Beling Sing Nganten phenomenon. Utilizing qualitative methods primarily in-depth interviews and participant observation, it seeks to understand how this practice is experienced, interpreted, and negotiated in everyday life, particularly by women. The central objective of this research is to analyze how Sing Beling Sing Nganten operates as a social practice that contributes to the shifting values surrounding the institution of marriage, specifically in relation to its perceived sacredness. Findings from the study indicate that this phenomenon is not merely a reflection of value transformation but also constitutes a strategic adaptation to the increasing social and economic pressures faced by individuals and families. The normalization of this practice in urban Balinese settings is shaped by the intersection of traditional cultural norms and modern pragmatic outlooks. As such, this research offers not only a phenomenological account of an evolving cultural practice but also a critical reflection on the broader transformation of value systems in contemporary Balinese society.

Honesty is an important behavior for everyone. Until now there is still news about corruptors, meaning there are still dishonest people. Honesty cannot be taught when they are adults. Abstract

Causal Euphoria of Yajña Ritual is a term coined by the researcher himself that refers to the accumulation of various phenomena in the implementation of yajña by Hindus in Bali. The implementation of yajña in Bali in the modern era in a certain quantity and capacity tends to display its festive side, so that the value or main purpose of the implementation of yajña is doubtful. In addition, there are 3 specific problems that must be studied and evaluated in this research, including the concept of Causal Euphoria Ritual Yajña, then the causes of the emergence of Causal Euphoria Ritual Yajña (CERiYa) among the younger generation of Hindus in Bali, and solutions in overcoming Causal Euphoria Ritual Yajña Implementation (CERiYa) among the younger generation of Hindus in Bali. Basically, the purpose of this research is to contribute thoughts to the dynamics of religious life, especially in the field of tradition and culture. Therefore, in the future, the implementation of yajña is not only focused on the systematics of implementation, but also understands its philosophical value.Given that this research is a type of Qualitative research, the data collection used literature and document recording techniques. The results of the analysis and evaluation show that Causal Euphoria of Yajña Ritual is a number of causes of the emergence of excessive excitement in a yajña ritual. The causes in question are largely due to several things, such as a low level of understanding of religious philosophy, a wrong religious perspective, and the unstoppable flow of modernization and globalization. Based on this analysis, it can be concluded that there needs to be an improvement in the field of Hindu religious education, especially regarding yajña in in-formal, formal, and non-formal environments that are not only centered on the theoretical aspects but also on the quality of educators or religious instructors and the deepening of yajña philosophy.

Abstract

The development of digital technology in the modern era has a significant impact on the behavior and character of the young generation, both positively and negatively. The emergence of moral crises, declining social ethics, and a lack of role models pose serious challenges in the world of education, especially in shaping students’ character. Hindu religious education has great potential in responding to these challenges through the Dharma teachings, which are rich in ethical and spiritual values. This study aimed to examine in depth the role of Hindu Religious Education in instilling character values in the young generation in the digital era. The method used was a qualitative approach with a literature review technique, which involved examining various sources of Hindu religious literature, educational policies, and relevant previous research results. The results indicated that Hindu Religious Education was capable of instilling character values, such as honesty (Satya), peace (Ahimsa), discipline (Tapa), social responsibility (Yadnya), and spiritual devotion (Bhakti) through an adaptive contextual approach utilizing digital technology. The utilization of digital-based learning media such as Dharma discourse videos, religious e-learning, and Hindu-based interactive applications has been proven to increase student engagement in understanding and internalizing character values. In addition, the involvement of teachers, families, and indigenous communities also strengthened the collective instillation of character values. This study concluded that Hindu Religious Education played a strategic role in building the moral and spiritual character of the young generation. The positive ultilaztion of technology and synergy between educational institutions and the social environment were the key to successfully delivering Hindu character education that was relevant to the challenges of the times.
