Abstract

This study aims to identify models of activities that can enhance Arabic language skills at the Al-Amanah Islamic Boarding School. The objective is to explore the types of language activities that strengthen students' Arabic skills and the assessment forms applied at the school. The methodology used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, language department management, and students proficient in Arabic, along with documentation of the learning materials used. The results show that Arabic language activities at the school include four activities: vocabulary enhancement, speaking skills in daily life, lectures, and an intensive Arabic program for new students. These activities significantly improve students' ability to speak Arabic, focusing on education that supports speaking practice through memorisation, reading vocabulary, and speaking in Arabic.

Abstract

Listening comprehension is one of the foundational skills in language acquisition, yet its implementation in Arabic language education is often overlooked, especially in many Islamic educational institutions where more focus is placed on grammar and translation. This study aims to analyze the teaching strategies for listening skills (maharah istima’) as conceptualized by Dr. Muhammad Shalih Syanthi in his book Al-Mahārah al-Lughawiyyah. Using a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis, this study examines the pedagogical ideas proposed in the listening chapter of the book. The analysis reveals that Dr. Syanthi emphasizes gradual learning, the use of authentic and contextual audio materials, the development of psychological readiness in learners, active listening exercises, and formative assessment. Moreover, he identifies several key barriers to effective listening—such as distraction, boredom, low stamina, and a critical attitude towards the speaker—and offers practical strategies to overcome them. The findings conclude that M.Syanthi’s framework for teaching maharah istima’ is highly relevant and adaptable for modern Arabic language instruction, especially in enhancing communicative competence and learner-centered pedagogy in both traditional and contemporary settings.

Abstract

Seventh-grade students at MTs Manba'ul Ulum experience boredom and low motivation in learning Arabic due to conventional teaching methods such as lectures, thus requiring the implementation of more creative and student-oriented strategies to improve their understanding and learning motivation. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Mnemonic strategy in enhancing students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary at Mts Manba’ul Ulum. The Mnemonic strategy is a learning method that utilizes association techniques such as images, stories, songs, and word grouping to help students remember vocabulary more easily. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, employing a one grup pretest and posttest model. the research sample consists of 18 seventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The results indicate a significant improvement in student’s Arabic vocabulary mastery after implementing the Mnemonic strategy. The average pretest score was 41.67, while the posttest score increased  to 77.22. Statistical analysis using the paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after applying the Mnemonic strategy. Based on the N-Gain test, students' comprehension improvement falls into the moderate category, with an average score of 0.6288. Thus, the Mnemonic strategy has proven to be effective in helping students memorize Arabic vocabulary more easily and enjoyably.
