Abstract

The duration of breastfeeding is influenced by sociodemographic, biomedical, and psychosocial factors. This study aims to analyze the comparison of the duration of breastfeeding for 6-month infants between rural and urban areas in Indonesia using data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) 2017. This study analyzes secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) with a sample of namely infants aged 6 months as many as 15316 subjects. The independent variable in this study is the sociodemographic characteristics of the place of residence (rural/urban). The dependent variable in this study is the duration of breastfeeding. Data processing and analysis was carried out using the Chi Square Test. Chi square test showed the value of p = 0.00 (p <0.05). This shows that there is a significant difference between the duration of exclusive breastfeeding in urban and rural areas. There are differences in the demographic factors of rural (rural) and urban (urban) residence with the duration of exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months for infants.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a public health problem in Indonesia until now because there are still many morbidity and mortality rates every year. DHF cases in the working area of the Air Putih Health Center fluctuate every year, in 2019 there were 109 cases, in 2020 there were 29 cases and in 2021 there were 44 cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between breeding places and PSN behavior with the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae in the working area of the Air Putih Public Health Center, Samarinda City. This study used quantitative, analytic survey methods with a cross-sectional approach where the subjects in this study were houses within the working area of the Air Putih Community Health Center with a sample of 59 houses, a sampling technique set by WHO. Collecting data with a questionnaire, check list and analyzed using the fisher's exact test. As for the bivariate test results, it was found that there was a relationship between TPA for daily needs (p-value = 0.00), TPA not for daily needs (p-value = 0.00) and PSN behavior (p-value = 0.05 ) with the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae in the working area of the Air Putih Public Health Center, Samarinda City. Suggestions in this study, the people in the working area of the Air Putih Health Center can reduce mosquito breeding places, drain the TPA regularly and bury used items that are not used. It is also hoped that the Puskesmas can improve coordination with the community and cadres in checking mosquito larvae regularly so that they can eradicate the DHF vector.

Abstract

Head lice infestation is still a health problem in Indonesia. Currently, there has been a lot of research on the incidence of pediculosis capitis. However, there are still few articles that systematically review the incidence of head lice infestation. The purpose of writing this article is to examine cases of pediculosis capitis in several regions in Indonesia in order to obtain systematic and comprehensive prevalence data. A literature search was carried out in October 2021 through Google Scholar and obtained 13 relevant articles. Based on the above review, it can be concluded that the highest incidence of pediculosis capitis is in Islamic boarding schools, attacking elementary school-aged children, with a prevalence range of 29.3%-88.9% and can occur throughout Indonesia. This condition can be caused by a lack of personal hygiene, so that it can continue to be a source of infestation for children around it.

Abstract

Adolescents’ pregnancy negatively impacts their health and their babies, also gives socio-economics impacts and risks of premature birth, low birth weight (LBW) and bleeding that can increase maternal and infant mortality. This study aims to determine the relationship of education level with the pregnancy at the age of adolescence. This research using observational analytic design with cross-sectional to recognize the relationship between education level ties and pregnancy at the age of adolescence. The subject of this research is pregnant women in the North Coast Region of Indramayu who meet the inclusion criteria and are willing to sign the consent form after being given an explanation. The samples of 200 pregnant women were taken using consecutive sampling. The results obtained p-value = 0.045 smaller than the alpha value (<0. 05) it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of education of mothers with pregnancy in adolescence. Analysis we found the value of OR of 3.336 (95% CI 1.098 to 10.140) means, less educated mother 3.336 times risk higher to get married and pregnant at the age of adolescence. It is expected that health center, government worker and the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) able to work together to provide better education for adolescents and prospective brides in order not to get pregnant at an early age.

Abstract

Indonesia has a long history of adolescent marriage and early childbearing. The religious, sociocultural and economic factors have been pointed out as the major drivers of early marriage while the 1974 Marriage Law was considered ‘weak’ in preventing the event. As the house of representative has passed the new bill in increasing the minimum legal age of marriage for female from 16 to 19 years old in 2019, a question posed whether the enactment of the new marriage law will be effective in preventing adolescent marriage in Indonesia.

Abstract

Temephos is an insecticide active ingredient often used by a community as Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) vector control in imago. The development of Ae aegypti is influenced by biotic and abiotic factors. This study aimed at determining the effects of temephos concentration on mortality and a life level of Ae aegypti at some concentration tests. The experimental design used in this study was Complete Random Design (CRD). This study involved temephos as the active ingredient and third instar Ae. Aegypti larvae originating from Pangandaran Regency. Data analysis used an ANOVA test with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The results showed that there was any influence of concentration towards a number of mortality, a life level, morphology of larvae, pupae and imago, a number of males and females, and a number of eggs hatchability. Temephos concentration affected the mortality of third instar larvae of Ae. aegypti with temephos concentration of 0.019 ppm, 0.069 ppm, 0.105 ppm, and 0.140 ppm and affected a life level of Ae. aegypti with biological parameters.

Abstract

Background: Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes that continue to be a significant health challenge in many tropical and subtropical countries. So far, Geographic Information System (GIS) in the health sector contributed to disease prevention, especially for visualization of the disease case. GIS is one of the important tools in spatial epidemiology to assist identification and spatial analysis of the target disease intervention. This article summarizes the use of GIS to assess risk factors for DHF, and how efficient the use of GIS in facilitating the improvement of disease surveillance systems for the prevention and control of diseases. Methods: This paper was developed using a descriptive approach, conducted in September and December 2019. The primary data used in this research were from ScienceDirect databased by collecting some studies that assess the risk of dengue using GIS applications. Results: The results of reviews of research in several countries which use GIS applications in assessing the risk of dengue incidence, ie, in Swat, Pakistan evaluated the impact of the slope, population density, and the distance to the river through GIS applications. Then in Seremban and Putrajaya, Malaysia implemented a participatory approach to identify the spatial risk of dengue in the community. Research in Lahore, Pakistan, analyzed the risk of dengue. Study in Colombia conducted GWR to evaluate the association between socioeconomic factors and the environment with dengue fever incidence. Recently, research in Taiwan integrated GIS to detect the correlation between population density and the possibility of human contact with mosquitoes. Conclusions: Based on the results of the review, it can be drawn that asses the dengue risk with GIS applications is highly relevant because it can determine the factors which affect the incidence of dengue. Besides, it can determine the spatial correlation between risk factors and the incidence of dengue, as well as to evaluate the impact of the dengue occurrence.
