Abstract

The communities in the Bosomtwe basin depend on Lake Bosomtwe for their livelihoods. However, the lake has continued to experience human-driven degradation in recent times. We conducted a survey of the main anthropogenic perturbations of the lake, the level of awareness of the communities of anthropogenic interventions and their effects on lake health, and the effectiveness of its management practices using a structured questionnaire administered to 350 respondents. Data were analyzed using non-parametric Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U-tests. Crop farming, fishing, fish mongering, animal rearing, timber harvesting, hospitality operations, washing, other trades, and illegal mining were the anthropogenic interventions of the most devastating consequence, promoted by a low level of education and environmental awareness. Although the regards for directives of the traditional authority to govern the lake declined subtly, the situation is worsening due to inadequate resources for the Bosomtwe District Assembly, the government agency responsible for coordinating the activities of stakeholders of the lake and providing an effective decision-making basis for its conservation. The results, which have direct practical implications for water management, suggest the need for well-coordinated policies and strategies for law enforcement and education of basin communities on the causes and effects of lake degradation.

Abstract

The study aims to determine what kind of submission industrial firms do and the standard/framework industrial companies use to comply with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 4, series of 2019. A reporting template that serves as a guide to Publicly-Listed Companies to disclose economic, environmental, and social effects in compliance with globally accepted standards. The study considered the seventy-two (72) subsectors of publicly listed industrial companies. The annual report and sustainability report in 2020 were gathered from the Philippine Stock Exchange and company websites. The analysis was conducted by listing the companies and finding out if the company disclosed or did not disclose their sustainability report and presented through trends, frequencies, characteristics, and categories. The study revealed that the most common format and framework used was the SEC Sustainability Reporting Template. As for the disclosures, the majority of the companies disclosed their scope and boundaries, materiality assessment, and UN Sustainable Development Goals, while the majority of the companies did not disclose their external assurance and sustainability governance and management system. The sustainability reporting of publicly listed industrial companies in the Philippines is still developing and is fairly new as reporting sustainability reports has only been mandatory for publicly listed companies in 2019.

Abstract

Every human being always produces waste in his life, be it organic waste or inorganic waste. With the increasing number of people in the world, of course, the amount of waste produced will increase. To overcome these problems, we need a technology that can utilize waste to be used as a source of renewable energy, as was done by PLTSa Benowo in the city of Surabaya. At PLTSa Benowo, the use of waste to be used as a renewable energy source is carried out in two ways, namely Landfill Gas Recovery (LFG) and Gasification. The two processes will produce gas which will be used to generate 11 MW of electrical energy. Utilization of waste to be used as a source of electrical energy provides many benefits for humans, besides being able to overcome the problem of urban waste which is increasingly piling up, it can also provide electricity supply for PLN. The author uses descriptive methods through a qualitative approach, this research intends to understand what phenomena are experienced by the research subjects. The results of the research are expected to provide additional knowledge about PLTSa Benowo which is located in the city of Surabaya.

Abstract

The agenda to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in order to mitigate climate change remains a global concern. Researchers, policymakers and governments have shown interest in this regard. While empirical studies on the subject matter has been increasing conflicting results and little evidence on the effects of some variables necessitate for further studies. In this study the effect of female population, urbanization and trade openness on carbon dioxide emission in Ghana is assessed. The study used the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, & Technology (STIRPAT) model as the foundation for empirical modelling. Time series data spanning from 1971-2018 was used for regression analysis. In both long run and short run periods, urbanization was noted to exert positive influence on carbon dioxide emission while trade openness and female population exert negative effect on carbon dioxide emission. Thus, growth in urbanization increases carbon dioxide emission while the opposite is the case for trade openness and female population. Findings from the study suggest intensifying the empowerment of women could be a crucial catalyst for the achievement of Ghana’s nationally determined contributions toward CO2 reduction. Also, trade negotiations that promote environmental protection should not be relaxed

Abstract

Liquidity is one of the important things in investing in the stock market. The Indonesia Stock Exchange as a regulator makes and establishes regulations in the capital market to conduct trading in an orderly, fair and efficient manner. One of the amended provisions in the regulation is regarding the free float or the percentage of the number of shares outstanding in the public with the aim of increasing the liquidity of the listed shares. In addition to free float, the risk in investing also needs to be considered. Behind a high return there is a high risk as well. High risk in the volatility of stock returns. High volatility attracts investors to invest in the stock market. Investors with risk-taking tendencies prefer this high-volatility condition because it allows them to earn higher returns, thereby increasing liquidity through the trading volume of these shares. This study involves a number of control variables that together determine market liquidity, namely Stock Return, Firm Size and Stock Price. The analysis was carried out on property and construction sector companies listed in the 2016-2020 period. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression analysis using the E-Views 10 application. The results of the analysis found that free float and volatility have a positive effect on stock liquidity, either by including or including control variables. These results indicate that information about free float and volatility is a consideration in capital market investment decisions

Abstract

The article explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy, utilising macroeconomic concepts. Further, how organisations worldwide can use the strategic management technique of drawing up a PESTLE analysis to provide focused attention to each factor and macroeconomic party, which ultimately comprises the entire economy, with special attention being focused on the expansion of the environmental factor. The study sought to determine whether healthcare should be considered as a separate dimension under the environmental category in a PESTLE analysis as seen by the effects of the current pandemic and, if so, what the arguments in favour and against were. The methodology was used to gather data from online journals relating to the relevant healthcare ministries, and a comprehensive review was conducted based on existing sources. The scenarios unfolded as the pandemic first broke out, the policies imposed by governments and shortcomings as policymakers were discussed, and the current policies utilised to ensure the brunt of the pandemic did boomerang again were analysed. This research article concludes with the results of the COVID-19 pandemic; healthcare can be considered a separate dimension of the environmental factor in PESTLE analysis, which directly influences the macroeconomy.

Abstract

Modern technological developments substantially impact many essential areas, including teaching English as a second language. Science and commercial advancements depend on the ability of specialists around the world to communicate using English. This motivates instructors to switch from teaching English in general to teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP), which focuses on assisting students in achieving language proficiency. In Banjarmasin, Indonesia, vocational high schools provide English for Business as a division of ESP. Since no monograph book gives learning models for teachers on how to teach English in a way that is acceptable and engaging to students, challenges develop while teaching English in vocational schools, especially for students majoring in business. This research aims to produce a monograph on teaching models of English for Business due to the significance of meeting teaching and learning aims and the lack of suitable references for teaching English to business students in vocational high schools, especially in wetland areas. This study employs a research and development approach since it wants to create a product while considering requirements analysis. It is believed that the findings of this study would help teachers deliver effective and worthwhile instruction in wetland areas while also raising students' academic achievement.
