Abstract

Municipalities, in general, experience difficulties in own revenue generation. However, this problem is most severe among rural district councils as they tend to have relatively smaller revenue bases, a culture of non-payment on the part of ratepayers, poor service delivery, inefficient billing systems, poor planning and poor debtor’s management. As a result, rural district councils in Zimbabwe including the Chivi Rural District Council (CRDC) are facing self-sustainability concerns due to financial difficulties. There is overwhelming evidence in research to support the notion that properly planned billing systems have a positive impact on revenue generation among municipalities. On the other hand, poorly planned billing systemswill lead to financial difficulties. A case study approach is designed. Secondary data wasgathered in addition to primary data was collected through questionnaires withCRDC employees and ratepayers. Secondary data was collected through existing CRDC and government reports and documents, and the relevant Acts of Parliament. This found that customers had neutral perceptions of the service quality subconstructs of assurance, reliability, empathy and tangiblesat the CRDC. Further, customers had merely high neutrality almost negative perception of the service quality construct of responsiveness. A statistically significant neutral relationship was found between assurance, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and tangibles with overall customer satisfaction. The reliability had the highest influence on customer satisfaction, followed by tangibles, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance, respectively. In practical perspective, the study recommends better ways of revenue collection to the municipality. Further the study adds to the debate in literature in Pecking Order Theory.

Abstract

The main aim of this study was to unpack the health and socioeconomic status of waste-picking activities in Mayville, Cato Manor, and Westville in Durban. It analyzed the quality of life of waste pickers, their awareness of the risks associated with this kind of work, and the extent of their uptake of health-protective measures. A quantitative approach was adopted, and a questionnaire was used to gather data from 81 waste pickers. The findings revealed that unemployment was the main reason for taking up waste picking and that this was the respondents' primary source of income. It was also found that most respondents resided in shacks and had no access to running water. Most were unaware of the risks associated with this kind of work. Based on these findings, it is recommended that economic development be pursued to create employment opportunities and that delivery of essential services such as potable water be improved, especially in informal settlements. Awareness campaigns should be launched to educate waste pickers on handling waste, the risks associated with this kind of work, and the need to adopt protective health measures. Finally, the researcher recommends further research on waste picking in Durban as there is a paucity of information on this activity in the city.

Abstract

In the wake of COVID-19, the rise of remote work has led to a significant increase in private vehicle ownership among Filipinos. This trend poses a significant challenge for sustainability and environmental preservation. This study examines how Gcash Philippines, through its Instagram account @Gcashofficial, is addressing this issue by promoting sustainable practices and actions. This research utilizes content analysis to examine posts on @Gcashofficial over a one-year period (2023-2024). The analysis focuses on messages related to sustainability development - including preservation, communication, and action - and how these messages relate to the problem of increased private vehicle ownership. The study reveals that @Gcashofficial is actively promoting sustainable practices as a response to growing environmental concerns linked with increased private vehicle use. Notably, it was found that owning a private vehicle is often portrayed as a significant contributor to future air pollution issues. These findings have critical implications for both policy-makers and businesses alike. For policy-makers, understanding how digital platforms can be used effectively for sustainability

Abstract

Yasika 25 social foundation carries out social marketing communication through social service activities as part of their marketing plan, in an effort to build better relationships with the community, strengthen brand loyalty, increase consumer trust, and expand market reach. This research aims to describe how Yasika 25 social foundation carries out social marketing communication and what tools are used in its implementation. The research method used is qualitative descriptive by conducting interviews with three individuals involved in Yasika 25 marketing activities. The results of the research show that Yasika 25 uses various social marketing tools such as social media, websites, brochures, and social service activities. Social media is the primary tool for social marketing communication to target audiences, such as Instagram and Facebook. The Yasika 25 website is used as an information medium about their social activities and campaigns. In addition, Yasika 25 also uses brochures as a conventional marketing tool to reach communities that are not connected to social media or their website. During social service activities, Yasika 25 uses marketing tools such as banners, flags, and merchandise as branding efforts and to increase community awareness of their social foundation. The results of this research show that Yasika 25 has been successful in carrying out social marketing communication by using effective marketing tools.

Abstract

In 2023, the number of elderly Hajj pilgrims has increased significantly due to the accumulation of the Covid-19 period and priority policies. A total of 67,199 elderly Hajj pilgrims have become priority records as Hajj pilgrims who must receive special treatment. This research aims to explain, understand and discover how elderly Hajj pilgrims express themselves as individuals who are carrying out the Hajj pilgrimage and build an intimate relationship with the crew member accompanying him. The paradigm used in this research is Post Positivism with a qualitative approach using the case study method. In the research used theory is self disclosure with indicators of 5 dimensions, namely amount, valency, accuracy, Intention and Intimate and intimacy theory. The findings in this research are that self-disclosure carried out by elderly Hajj pilgrims and flight attendants forms a close, protective family relationship.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the concentration of ambient air quality NO2 and SO2, determine the trend in ambient air quality NO2 and SO2, and determine the Air Quality Value index for Tenggarong City, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. The data collection method was using the 18-SPEKTRO-33/MU/SMM-AAS (Passive Sampler Spectrophotometry) method, then analyzed using environmental quality standards, government regulation number 22 of 2021. The research results show that the quality concentration of NO2 gas in Jam Bentong is between (5.23-19.85) µg/m3 and SO2 is between (3.75-38.55) µg/m3, in the Industrial Area NO2 is between (5.54-10.20) µg/m3 and SO2 is between (4.28 -10.41) µg/m3, while in residential locations NO2 is between (2.49-7.98) µg/m3 and SO2 is between (<2.57-10.60) µg/m3. The tendency for ambient air quality NO2 and SO2 at the Jam Bentong location to fluctuate is inconsistent, while the Industrial Location is almost the same as the Residential Location, namely with uniform quality, but all quality concentrations are still below environmental quality standards. The Environmental Quality Index value at the Jam Bentong location is 79,618, this value is included in good environmental conditions. Meanwhile, in industrial locations it is 90,043, this value is included in superior environmental conditions. Meanwhile, in residential locations, the Environmental Quality Index value is 93,429, this value also falls into superior environmental conditions.

Abstract

Political discourse preceeding the 2024 General Election has led to the contamination of the media landscape with hoaxes and fakenews. The public, candidates, and state actors not only compete with factual information and positive news, but also contends with the spread of misinformation and fake news. The prevalence of hoaxes on social media and fake news in mass media circulation prior to the 2024 General Election poses a tangible threat to social unity and national integration. This paper aims to analyze the model of public communication used to combat hoaxes and fakenews before the 2024 General Election done by the Ministry of Communication and Information and other stakeholders. The data for this paper is based on qualitative research carried out with data collection technique through literature searches, observation, and interview. The study discovered that the public communication model developed to combat hoaxes and fake news in advance of the 2024 General election has been ineffective. The fundamental weakness of the public communication model in eradicating hoaxes and fake news lies in the uneven application of the law inforcement and penalties. In addition, there are some elements of the public communication model that do not systematically show significant and consistent progress. At a macro level, this can be understood as the lack of clear roadmap and grand design to eliminate hoaxes and fake news in Indonesia. A clear plan or atrategy is needed for the long term establishment of a culture focused on the eradication of hoaxes and fake news.

Abstract

The Covid-19 outbreak is a global fear. This fear is partly triggered by diverse media representation. Information containing representations of COVID-19 has the potential to reduce fear. However, in reality, representations through these symbols have the potential to be used by those in power to exercise their power, especially to get rid of their political opponents through representation. The representation of Habib Rizieq Shihab as a violator of health protocols is suspected to be an attempt by the authorities to eliminate his political opponents through fear of the COVID-19 outbreak in symbols spread in the media. This research wants to answer how the administration of fear in symbols regarding violations of the COVID-19 protocol by religious figures in the representation of Habib Rizieq Shihab in Indonesian online news. This research explores the concept and criticizes the concept of administration of fear, which is a construct from dromology-based theories by Paul Virilio. This research uses Barthes' textual semiotics method (Barthes' 5 codes), which analyzes several online news texts in Indonesia. From the results of the analysis, it is revealed that the media representation of Habib Rizieq Shihab is a form of administration of fear carried out by the authorities through symbols about COVID-19 in the media by constructing logistics of perception and environmental construction that represents Habib Rizieq based on fear of the epidemic and fear of Islam (Islamophobia).

Abstract

The research aims to plan the management outreach process to the community regarding developing a tourist village in South Subang. Including finding patterns of acceptance and suitability of the idea of developing a tourist village in South Subang, as well as finding and identifying the factors that influence community acceptance of the idea of developing a tourism village in South Subang. The results of the research using quantitative data and reinforced with qualitative data indicate that the process of socializing management to the community is carried out persuasively and recognizes the characteristics of the village community who are the target of communication. While the community accepts the idea of developing a tourist village in South Subang, some support it, and some are unhappy. Therefore, the factors that affect the acceptance of village communities to the idea of developing a tourist village in South Subang can involve opinion leaders, namely community leaders or leaders who are respected and combined with adopting Innovation. This strengthens the theory (Festinger, 1957) of social psychology and Lazarsfeld regarding opinion leaders combined with the concept of Innovation (Rogers, 2003).

Abstract

Digitalization makes adaptation a new demand that MSMEs, particularly in the microbusiness sector, must comply with. Unfortunately, this sector has a lower rate of adopting digital content for promotion purposes. Since the advent of social media, storytelling has become one of the most popular types of digital marketing material, and It also has the added benefit of preventing advertising from being rejected. This research is quantitative, using a survey of microbusiness owners in West Java, Indonesia. The results of the hypothesis test show that compatibility and social influence are the two most important predictors of adoption rates, with compatibility showing the highest adoption rate for the acceptance of all indicators of storytelling as digital material except mythology. West Java is one of the areas with aspects of mythology and cultural stories mixed with stories and tales; yet, culture is viewed as an ambiguous notion when connected to consumer behavior intellectually, practically, and legally.
