Abstract

The utilization of heritage buildings in downtown Medan's Kesawan area has become a prime tourist attraction developed by the Medan City Government. Sustainable preservation of cultural heritage is crucial due to its significant benefits for the local community. Before the government's development, Kesawan appeared rundown with many abandoned, vandalized buildings and homeless people occupying them. Qualitative research gathered information through observation, literature study, and interviews with residents, government officials, heritage experts, and site managers. The study found that the Medan city government and related departments did not comprehensively supervise heritage preservation. The Irritation Index (Irridex) theory revealed that the community felt euphoria, showing they were pleased with tourists. Using SWOT, Tosun's typology indicated that community participation was induced and passive, needing encouragement from the government, trusted representatives, and structured involvement.

Abstract

One of the important assets in developing tourism to improve the city's image and attract tourists is the creativity of the city's people themselves in preserving the city's local culture. In recent years, urban areas have placed an emphasis on innovation to encourage creativity and contribute to the formation of creative spaces. In Indonesia, creative space is increasingly expanding and developing, triggered by social media. This phenomenon attracts people to visit and carry out various creative activities, so that North Sumatra, which has various cultures and ethnicities, feels the need to provide a forum for what has become known as North Sumatra Fashion Week and in 2023, North Sumatra Fashion Week will also be held in November. With this platform, the creative attractiveness of city areas in culture can be better known so that city tourism does not only focus on the physical attractiveness of the city. This research aims to contribute to the available literature by further examining how the creative activities created can form creative spaces in the city of Medan, and what creative activities can be developed as tourist attractions. A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this research, data collection using observation, interviews and literature study. The findings show that various creative activities created in the city of Medan are interpreted collectively by visitors, thus forming a creative space and potentially becoming a tourist attraction in the Medan area. And this research provides explanations and recommendations for stakeholders and further research related to the development of creative spaces and creative tourism in the city of Medan.

Abstract

The Implementation of Grooming Standard for Banquet Waiter as a crucial part for Excellence Service in JW Marriott Medan – Grooming plays a pivotal role in maintaining exceptional hotel service standards. For a Banquet Waiter, grooming is not just about looking neat; it’s about creating an unforgettable guest experience. Good grooming isn’t just about appearance; it’s also about hygiene. Consistent grooming reflects a Waiter’s commitment to their job. Service excellence is about going beyond your customer’s basic needs and exceeding their expectations. Customers are at the very heart of hospitality, making excellence in customer service an even more important focus in the hospitality industry. Hotels, restaurants, and tourism companies are unlikely to succeed without happy customers. The author will defining the grooming as a part of achieving excellence service in hotel operational. This paper is to study further implementation of Grooming Standard in order to achieve excellence service in Banquet operational. Study method using Qualitative Descriptive data, in order to study the object directly. Population data for this subject is 7 people concists of 2 supervisor, 1 wedding butler, 2 audio visual captain, and 2 banquet waiters. From the results of the discussion reviewed in the field, the results of our research at the JW Marriott Hotel Medan about the application of standardsgrooming employees is still not running according to the SOP that has beendetermined, the obstacle found is that there are still many waitresses who are not obey grooming standards such as the prohibition of Mustaches for men, the application ofEmployee hygiene as part of grooming standards at JW Marriott Hotels Medan needs to be developed so that every waitress understands whatbecome duties and responsibilities. The suggestions given by the author arethe hotel should provide or provide the latest uniform such as a t-shirt especially in the banquet section to carry out preparation,Supervisors/managers further improve grooming inspections so that they do not violations from employees were found again and gave a firm reprimand to employees who do not comply with the rules.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi wisatawan mancanegara terhadap kemampuan komunikasi staf hotel dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris di kawasan wisata Parapat, Kabupaten Simalungun. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya penguasaan bahasa Inggris sebagai alat komunikasi global di sektor pariwisata, terutama dalam pelayanan hotel. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi langsung terhadap interaksi antara wisatawan dan staf hotel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum wisatawan menilai kemampuan bahasa Inggris staf hotel sudah cukup baik untuk komunikasi dasar seperti check-in dan pemesanan makanan. Namun, terdapat kendala dalam memahami aksen wisatawan serta menyampaikan informasi kompleks, seperti penanganan keluhan atau penjelasan detail fasilitas. Meski demikian, keramahan dan sikap kooperatif staf hotel tetap memberikan kesan positif bagi wisatawan. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pentingnya pelatihan berkelanjutan dalam bahasa Inggris yang disesuaikan dengan situasi nyata di lingkungan kerja guna meningkatkan kualitas layanan dan kepuasan tamu asing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi persepsi wisatawan terhadap pemanfaatan teknologi pemasaran dalam mempromosikan jajanan tradisional di Desa Wisata Kampung Warna Warni Tigarihit, Kabupaten Simalungun, serta mengevaluasi efektivitas platform online dalam meningkatkan minat wisatawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar wisatawan memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan media sosial dan platform digital, yang dianggap memudahkan akses informasi tentang jajanan tradisional sebelum kunjungan. Visualisasi menarik seperti foto dan video terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan minat wisatawan, sementara ulasan positif dari wisatawan lain membantu memperkuat citra positif jajanan tersebut. Namun, keterbatasan keterampilan digital di kalangan pelaku usaha lokal menjadi kendala dalam pemanfaatan teknologi secara optimal. Oleh karena itu, disarankan adanya pelatihan digital bagi pelaku usaha lokal untuk meningkatkan efektivitas promosi jajanan tradisional di era digital.

Abstract

UNESCO Global Geopark is ageological parklocate dinanarea that has acollection ofgeological heritage that has Passthe UNESCO Global Geopark criteria. The emphasis of this study is on two things: (1) the current state of the Sipiso-Piso Waterfall Geosite, and (2) the interdisciplinary implementation of the UNESCO Global Geopark criteria on Sipiso-Piso Waterfall Geosite. Thisstudy employed a descriptive qualitative research method with case studies that involve field observations, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and document analysis. Geodiversity analysis of existing conditions through contouring of geosite factors indicates that Sipiso-Piso Waterfall Geosite has geodiversity geological and ecological potential, but also among the geortsites have many environmental management challenges and conservation. Some of the problems discovered: infrastructure that has yet to be improved, public awareness that has yet to be increased, and waste management that is not yet optimal. This study concludes that the application of UNESCO Global Geopark requirements on the Geosite of Sipiso-Piso Waterfall has been made with a good degree ofsuccess,and the extensive and integrated existing efforts, however, it still need sindependence and led to the intiation of the Standard expected.The source softhe additions include enhanced capabilities and infrastructure, representcooperation and partnerships, as well as expanded education and public outreach.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the strategic development potential of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Struggle Museum in Medan as a historical tourism destination through comprehensive SWOT analysis. The study evaluates internal and external factors affecting museum development using External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS) and Internal Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) matrices. Using qualitative methodology, data were collected through observations, interviews with museum management and visitors, document analysis, and exhibition material review. The research involved 35 tourist respondents and museum management interviews. Results indicate the museum positioned in Quadrant I (Growth Strategy), with total IFAS score of 3.45 and EFAS score of 3.28, suggesting aggressive growth strategies should be implemented. Key strengths include unique military historical collections (502 artifacts), strategic location accessibility, and strong educational value. Main opportunities involve growing heritage tourism market and government support for cultural preservation. The study recommends implementing penetration strategies, facility enhancement, digital integration, and collaborative partnerships to maximize the museum's potential as a premier historical tourism destination.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and understand the influence of service quality, ambiance, andfacilities on visitors' decisions to choose Cafe SedulurDirgantara in Kualanamu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. This research is a causal study that analyzes how one variable affects another. It isexploratoryin nature, conducted through direct field surveys. The sample for this study consisted of 200 selected individuals, chosen using an accidental sampling method. Data collection techniquesinvolved interviews and questionnaires using a 5-point Likert scale. Data analysis wasperformed using descriptive analysis with an impact analysis method. To test the hypotheses, acorrelation test was used to determine the overall interaction between variables. Subsequently, the data was analyzed using regression analysis with the aid of SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solitions). The research results show that service quality has an influence on guest visit decisions of 0,212 and has a positive and significant relationship (tcount​ 5,398 >ttable​ 1.660) in the moderate category (r = 0.461, assessment criterion 0.40 - 0.599) on the decision to visit the cafe.Ambianceand facilities also have an influence on guest visit decisions of 0,287 with a positive andsignificant relationship (tcount​ 4,582 >ttable​ 1.660) in the moderate category (r = 0.403,assessment criterion 0.40 - 0.599) on the decision to visit Cafe SedulurDirgantaraKualanamu, Deli Serdang.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms of difficulties faced by hospitality students in learningFrench, analyze the causal factors, and formulate effective learning strategies to overcome these obstacles. The method used is descriptive qualitative with the main instrumentinthe form of a questionnaire filled out by87 respondents of students of the Hospitality Department of the Medan Tourism Polytechnic. Data were analyzed through frequency tabulation and triangulation too btain more comprehensive results.The results ofthe study indicate that the main forms of difficulties experienced by student sinclude difficulties in memorizing vocabulary, understanding grammar, pronouncing words correctly, and forming simple sentences.These difficultiesare exacerbated by a lack of confidence in speaking, low learning motivation, non-contextual teaching methods, limited learning media, and minimal opportunities for language practice in and outside the classroom.As a solution, this study recommends communicative and project-based learningstrategies, such as hotel service simulations, pattern eddialogues, and the use of audio-visual media and digital platform stostreng the nunderstanding and pronunciation. The application ofthis strategyis considered effective in increasing students'interestin learning, practical skills, and confidencein using French in the hospitality context.

Abstract

Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu belajar, motivasi, dan pemakaian internet terhadap Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) mahasiswa. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa aktif pada Program Studi X di Universitas Y pada tahun akademik 2024/2025. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 20 mahasiswa dipilih dengan memakai teknik purposive sampling dari populasi 100. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang sudah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya, serta data IPK diambil dari administrasi akademik. Analisis data dilakukan dengan memakai metode regresi linier berganda melalui software SPSS versi 25. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa variabel Waktu belajar (X1) berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap IPK mahasiswa. Motivasi belajar (X2) juga berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap IPK. Penggunaa internet (X3) berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan terhadap IPK mahasiswa. Secara simultan, ketiga variabel tersebut memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap IPK mahasiswa, dengan nilai (Sig. F = 0.000). Koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0.851, yang berarti 85,1% variasi IPK dapat dijelaskan oleh variabel jam belajar, motivasi, dan pemakaian internet, sedangkan sisanya 14,9% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang tidak diteliti dalam penelitian ini. Berasarkan hasil tersebut, disarankan kepada mahasiswa untuk meningkatkan waktu belajar dan motivasi belajar secara optimal serta mengatur pemakaian internet, agar tidak mengganggu prestasi akademik. Selain itu, pihak kampus dapat memberikan pembinaan terkait manajemen waktu belajar dan pemakaian internet yang efektif.
