Abstract

This study examines the role of Sunday School teachers in shaping children's character through Christian religious education. The objective of this research is to identify the teaching strategies implemented and their impact on children's character development. The study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach conducted at Bethel Indonesia Church, Hotel Pelangi, Simpang Selayang, Medan. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that Sunday School teachers play a crucial role in character formation through role modeling, Bible-based learning, and positive social interactions. Creative teaching methods such as storytelling, role-playing, and interactive group activities have been proven to enhance children's understanding of Christian values. However, challenges such as a lack of training, limited facilities, and varying levels of student participation remain obstacles. It is recommended that churches provide regular training for Sunday School teachers, improve the availability of relevant teaching materials, and develop a more structured curriculum suited to children's growth. Additionally, parental involvement in character education is expected to strengthen learning outcomes. By enhancing the role of Sunday School teachers, this study contributes to the moral and spiritual development of children in Bethel Indonesia Church, Hotel Pelangi, Simpang Selayang, Medan.

Abstract

Proses pengembangan destinasi wisata bukanlah sebuah hal yang mudah. Terdapat berbagai motivasi mulai dari dorongan ekonomi, pelestarian lingkungan, hingga promosi budaya lokal. Tantangan-tantangan seperti keterbatasan infrastruktur, resistensi dari masyarakat lokal, dan masalah pendanaan sering kali menjadi hambatan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui motivasi dan tantangan dalam pengembangan destinasi wisata baru di Pea Farm House. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah 1(satu) orang yaitu pengelola Pea Farm House. Metode penelitian dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah dengan menggunakan pyrposive sampling. Metode pengambilan data adalah dengan menggunakan observasi, studi pustaka dan pedoman wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan metode analisa data dan analisa SWOT. Hasil penelitian ini adalah : Motivasi pengelola dalam mengembangkan destinasi pariwisata adalah untuk melakukan aktualisasi diri dan untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat di desa, tantangan utama yang dihadapi dalam proses pengembangan adalah akses jalan yang kurang baik.

Abstract

The designation of Lake Toba as one of Indonesia's five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP) requires massive and integrated promotional efforts. This research aims to analyze the strategic role of tourism communication in the promotion and strengthening of Lake Toba's branding. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, data were collected through in-depth literature review, observation of digital media platforms, and document analysis from relevant stakeholders. The results indicate that tourism communication plays a central role in shaping image, disseminating information, and persuading potential tourists. The current implementation of tourism communication for Lake Toba utilizes various channels, particularly digital media such as social media (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) and official websites. However, the main challenge is the lack of message integration among stakeholders (government, private sector, and community), resulting in a fragmented brand image. Effective communication serves not only as a promotional tool but also as a bridge to align the vision and actions of stakeholders. An integrated communication orchestration is needed, combining the power of digital media with the authenticity of interpersonal communication and local wisdom to build a strong and sustainable image for Lake Toba.

Abstract

This research examines the role of English language skills among waiters in enhancing service quality at the Compass Rose Restaurant of The ANMON Resort Bintan. As an international language, English plays a vital role in the hospitality industry, especially in interactions between waiters and foreign guests. This study aims to analyze the English proficiency levels of waiters, identify its impact on service quality, and propose recommendations for service improvement. The research employs a qualitative approach through direct observation and in-depth interviews. Informants include one food and beverage manager, one supervisor, ten waiters, and six restaurant guests, selected to provide comprehensive data. Findings reveal that the English-speaking skills of waiters are still suboptimal, particularly in speaking, leading to miscommunications during food and beverage orders. These misunderstandings often result in incorrect orders and guest complaints, which significantly affect guest satisfaction and overall service quality. The study recommends a consistent and structured English language training program under the supervision of the food and beverage manager. The program should focus on practical communication skills relevant to restaurant service tasks. Implementation of this recommendation is expected to improve service quality and create a more satisfying dining experience for guests at Compass Rose Restaurant.

Abstract

Dalam era globalisasi yang semakin maju saat ini, kemampuan berbahasa Inggris telah menjadi salah satu faktor krusial dalam industri pariwisata, khususnya di sektor perhotelan. Restoran hotel yang melayani tamu asing tidak hanya dituntut untuk menyajikan makanan berkualitas tinggi, tetapi juga harus mampu memberikan layanan yang memuaskan untuk bersaing di pasar internasional yang semakin kompetitif. Dalam konteks ini, pelatihan bahasa Inggris untuk staf restoran menjadi sangat penting. Misalnya, seorang pelayan yang dapat berkomunikasi dengan baik dalam bahasa Inggris mampu menjelaskan menu dengan lebih detail, memberikan rekomendasi yang tepat, dan menangani permintaan khusus dari tamu. Hal ini tidak hanya meningkatkan pengalaman makan tamu, tetapi juga menciptakan kesan positif yang dapat mendorong tamu untuk kembali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi peran pelatihan bahasa Inggris terhadap kepuasan tamu asing di restoran hotel berbasis pariwisata internasional. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui survei dan wawancara dengan staf restoran serta tamu asing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan bahasa Inggris yang efektif dapat meningkatkan interaksi antara staf dan tamu. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan bagi manajemen hotel dalam merancang program pelatihan yang lebih baik. Dengan memahami pentingnya penguasaan bahasa Inggris, manajemen dapat berinvestasi dalam program pelatihan yang tidak hanya fokus pada keterampilan bahasa, tetapi juga mencakup pelatihan budaya dan pelayanan pelanggan. Dalam kesimpulannya, pelatihan bahasa Inggris yang berkelanjutan dan komprehensif merupakan langkah strategis yang tidak hanya meningkatkan kepuasan tamu, tetapi juga memperkuat posisi kompetitif hotel di industri pariwisata global.

Abstract

This study analyzes local community empowerment in the development of creative economy based on Batak local wisdom in Toba Caldera Geopark using Hammersley & Atkinson's (2019) ethnographic approach. The research focuses on craft, fashion, and culinary sectors across four Batak sub-ethnic groups: Toba, Simalungun, Karo, and Pakpak. Through thick description methods and cultural domain analysis, the study reveals three main cultural themes influencing creative economy empowerment: hagabeon (prosperity through cultural preservation), marsipature huta (collective village responsibility), and parmalim na gok (wisdom-based innovation). Findings indicate that effective empowerment strategies must integrate cultural values with modern economic approaches, addressing tensions between commercialization and cultural authenticity. The study identifies community participation patterns influenced by Dalihan Na Tolu kinship structures in ulos weaving crafts, traditional motif-based fashion, and culinary practices with nauli bulung philosophy. Results recommend a culturally-grounded empowerment model that accommodates local cultural logic to achieve economic sustainability while preserving culture.

Abstract

The study examines the use of English in tourism contexts within Bakkara VillageHumbangHasundutan Regency, an emerging tourism destination in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The research employs a mixed-methods approach including surveys, interviews, and field observations to investigate how English functions as a lingua franca in tourist-local interactions, signage, promotional materials, and digital platforms. Results indicate varying English proficiency levels among tourism stakeholders, substantial challenges in language acquisition, and adaptive linguistic strategies employed by local tourism actors. The research identifies economic advancement opportunities through enhanced English communication and potential tensions between linguistic globalization and local cultural preservation. The study contributes to knowledge regarding sociolinguistic dimensions of tourism development in rural Indonesian contexts and offers practical implications for language education policy and sustainable tourism planning in Bakkara Village and similar emerging destinations.

Abstract

Character education is a central mandate in Indonesia’s national education framework, emphasizing the development of moral integrity, responsibility, and spiritual maturity. Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers play a strategic role in shaping students’ character by integrating biblical values with moral instruction, role modeling, and spiritual mentoring. This study examines how CRE teachers contribute to character formation among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Sibolga during the 2024/2025 academic year. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research collected data through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that CRE teachers perform four crucial functions: (1) moral educator, (2) role model, (3) motivator, and (4) spiritual mentor. These roles collectively enhance students’ honesty, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, respectfulness, and spiritual devotion. However, teachers face significant challenges, including digital media influence, peer pressure, and inconsistent parental involvement. The study concludes that CRE teachers significantly influence character formation when supported by consistent modeling and collaborative school–family partnerships

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengembangan sumber daya manusia (SDM) desa berbasis nilai-nilai Pancasila dan psikologi pelayanan di Desa Dolok Panribuan, Kabupaten Simalungun. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah mixed method (metode campuran) dengan melibatkan 100 responden yang terdiri atas masyarakat dan perangkat desa. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui penyebaran kuesioner, sedangkan data kualitatif dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dan observasi untuk memperdalam temuan empiris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pemahaman masyarakat terhadap nilai-nilai Pancasila, psikologi pelayanan, serta pentingnya pengembangan SDM desa berada pada kategori tinggi. Selain itu, ditemukan adanya hubungan positif dan signifikan antara pemahaman nilai-nilai Pancasila dan psikologi pelayanan dengan kualitas SDM desa. Artinya, semakin tinggi pemahaman masyarakat terhadap nilai-nilai Pancasila dan prinsip psikologi pelayanan, semakin baik pula kualitas SDM desa yang terbentuk. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pengembangan SDM desa tidak hanya bergantung pada aspek teknis dan ekonomi, tetapi juga pada penginternalisasian nilai-nilai moral dan kemanusiaan yang bersumber dari Pancasila serta pemahaman psikologi pelayanan dalam interaksi sosial masyarakat. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar bagi pemerintah desa dan pihak terkait dalam merancang program pemberdayaan masyarakat yang berkelanjutan dan berkarakter Pancasila.

Abstract

This Study a imstoidentify the condition of available facilities and infrastructure as well as to analyze visitor management effort susing the Visitor management approachat Waterfront City Pangururan. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation. The results showthat facilities and infrastructure at Waterfront City Pangururan are generally available, such as tourist attractions, thematic parks, aesthetic bridges, culinary centers, information facilities, road access, electricity, clean water, internetnet works, and health facilities. However, their utilization has not been fully optimal interms of quality and equitable distribution across the entirearea. In addition, several facilities were found to be damage dand poorly maintained. Regarding visitor management, the management has referred to the principles of Visitor Management, yet the implementation of visitor limits based on Physical Carrying Capacity has not been carried out optimally. In conclusion, the management of the area has been implemented but still require simprovement sinvarious aspects sothat this destinationcan develop into a comfortable, orderly, and sustainable tourist attraction.
