Abstract

The problem statements of the research were: 1) how is the social context of author reflected in novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett; 2) how is the social life happened in the society reflected in novel The Help; 3) how is the social function of novel The Help. The research used descriptive qualitative method by applying sociology of literature approach. The technique of data collecting used note and read techniques. The results showed that there are some conflicts happened in novel The Help: 1) the context of author explained about how black maid was discriminated against by white people in Mississippi. Many kinds of discrimination towards black maids like quote in the novel said that white people assume that blacks were a disease. One of the losers was black and he became depressed because white behavior was very brutal; 2) the social life reflected in society explained about condition in Jackson, Mississippi when black maids felt uncomfortable and treated unfairly with their social life; 3) social function explained about the role of the government. In this case, the government has failed because indirectly they support white people. In Mississippi they did not have black government because they did not need blacks to participate in politics.

Abstract

Problem in this research was whether the use of traditional game Kabente has a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery. While the objective of this research was to know the significance effect of traditional game Kabente n students ocabularymastery at grade VII A SMP Negeri 1 Siompu Barat. This research was pre experimental research. The population of the research were all grade II students of SMPNegeri 1 Siompu Barat which consisted of 3 classes with total 79 students. Sample in this research was taken with random sampling technique. Sample of the research was class VII A consisted of 25 students. Instrument which used in this research was test. Research outcome obtained showed that the mean score in pre-test was 36.36, while in post-test was 80.06. From hypotehis test result by using t test, obtained tcount = 2.54 and obtained significant value 0.00<0.050. therefore, it could be concluded that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Therefore, the application of traditional game Kabente had significant effect on students vocabulary mastery at grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Siompu Barat, academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The research is conducted to find out the significant difference between the vocabulary mastery of students who are taught using the personal vocabulary note method and those taught using conventional methods. This research used experimental design. The population in this research is 33 students of class VIII SMP Negeri 4 Kadatua that consisted of 2 classes. The sample was taken by using a sample group consisting of 16 students in the experimental class, and 17 students for the control class. The instrument used in this study was a vocabulary test. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the mean score of the pretest in experimental class was 43.18 and the final test was 71.87; 2) the mean score of the control class in pretest was 44.70 and the final test was 64.11; and 3) Hypothesis testing has a significance of 0.23 which is smaller than α 0.05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the vocabulary mastery of students who are taught using the personal vocabulary note method and taught using conventional methods in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 4 Kadatua.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the effect of oral quiz toward students’ speaking ability at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Lakudo. This study is pre-experimental in nature, with a single group pretest and posttest design and no control groups. The participants in this study were eleventh-grade students from SMA Negeri 2 Lakudo, a school with 168 students organized into five classes. The sample of this study was taken by using cluster sampling which consisted of 30 students. The instrument that is used in this research was oral test. The data suggest that oral quizzes have a considerable impact on students' speaking abilities in SMA Negeri 2 Lakudo eleventh grade pupils. The value of t test = 12.39, which was consulted to the t table at a significant level of 0.05 with the standard and degree of freedom (df) = 29, revealed that ttable=1.699. ttest= 12.39 > ttable = 1.699, according to this value. As a result, Ho is denied, whereas H1 is approved. It means that oral quizzes have a big impact on learning English at a higher level.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out whether there is any significant effect of using ESA method in improving students’ vocabulary of eight grade students at SMP Negeri 9 Baubau. The instrument of the research was test (pre-test and post-test). The study lasted eight sessions, with one meeting serving as a pre-test, six meetings as treatment, and one meeting serving as a post-test. In analyzing the data, the researchers applied descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The study found that there was a significant improvement from the vocabularies of eight grade students who treated by ESA method in SMP Negeri 9 Baubau.

Abstract

The problem statements of this research were: 1) what effect did the instructional design and delivery of English course to the student satisfaction?; 2) what impact did lecturer roles have on the student satisfaction, including feedback and assessment?; 3) what student duties and responsibilities were critical for a pleasant online class experience?; and 4) how effective were the management and support systems at delivering services when they are required? The method of the research used a quantitative approach by using survey method. The results of the research were: 1) the effects of the instructional design and delivery of English course to the student satisfaction were during English online class, the students were given chances to use materials from various sources and to interact each other virtually; 2) the impacts of lecturer roles had on the student satisfaction, including feedback and assessment were important, especially by providing various contents and sources of materials, help students in overcoming learning problems, feedback and assessment; 3) student duties and responsibilities were important, including motivation and interaction in joining English online class; and 4) the management and support systems were generally effective at delivering services when they were required.

Abstract

The problem statement in this research was “How was the level writing ability of students at grade eleven SMK Negeri 1 kambowa?” The objective of this research was to investigate the students level ability in writing. This research used a quantitative method with a descriptive design. Source of data in this research was student at grade XI of SMK Negeri 1 Kambowa. Sample was taken by using saturated sample tehnique, the number of sample was 30 students. Instrument used in this study was a test. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive analysis and inferential analysis in the form of t-test. The result showed that the students’ writing ability were still lacking. This proved by the t-test that t-count was greater than T- table (4,054>1,699). Based on Hypothesis testing, it means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, it could be concluded that the students writing ability on grade eleven at SMK Negeri 1 Kambowa is not high.
