Abstract

This study evaluates the utility and emission reductions of a 1,500 ton/day palm cooking oil production plant through Aspen Hysys simulations (gate-to-gate) and process scenarios. The model includes degumming, bleaching, deodorization, fractionation, hot oil heating utilities, water cooling, and electricity. Three scenarios were tested: (1) Heat Exchanger Networking (HEN) for inter-stream heat exchange; (2) oil recovery in spent bleaching earth (SBE) as fuel; and (3) integration of HEN + SBE recovery. Results show reductions in heat, water, electricity, fuel, and emission requirements compared to the baseline, with the best performance differing per metric: scenario 3 effectively reduces heat, fuel, and emission requirements, while scenario 2 is efficient for water and electricity consumption. The study confirms that the application of green technology improves both the efficiency and sustainability of the Indonesian cooking oil industry.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze complex prostate MRI images using phase unwrapping and Water-Fat Separation (WFS) methods while considering the effect of noise. The steps include complex image formation, phase unwrapping, testing sensitivity to noise, and separating water and fat components using a dual echo time approach (Dixon method). The unwrapping results show that noise significantly affects the accuracy of phase estimation. At a Noise Parameter of 0.3, the Mean Squared Error (MSE) was 39.62, while increasing the Noise Parameter to 0.7 raised the MSE to 168.89. The separation of water and fat signals was successfully achieved, where the water signal followed the original prostate structure, and the fat signal appeared as a distinct spatial gradient. This study demonstrates that complex MRI image processing of the prostate has strong potential to improve diagnostic accuracy through phase analysis and tissue distribution mapping.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes in reducing Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in wastewater treatment in the oil and gas industry. High levels of TDS in industrial wastewater can affect equipment performance and does not meet water quality standards. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with observation, interviews, literature studies, and company data analysis methods. The RO system implemented included pretreatment, chemical injection, high-pressure filtration, and storage of treated water. The results showed a significant decrease in TDS from 1,200 mg/L to 150 mg/L (efficiency 87.5%), turbidity from 3.2 NTU to 0.8 NTU (75%), and total hardness from 450 mg/L to 80 mg/L (82.2%), while pH was stable in the range of 6.8–7.1. These results prove that RO technology is capable of producing water with quality that meets the quality standards of the Minister of Health Regulation No. 492 of 2010. This study confirms the superiority of RO as an effective industrial water treatment method and recommends further research on operational costs, energy efficiency, and fouling control for long-term optimization.

Abstract

The structural performance of straight WF rafter gable frames with spans of 16 m and 24 m under static and seismic loadings according to SNI 1726:2019 was conducted in this study. The numerical analysis used solid finite elements provided in ANSYS by focusing on deformation, drift ratio, maximum stress, and stress ratio (SR). The results indicate that for the 16 m span, the straight WF rafters remain within strength and serviceability limits with drift ratios of 0.237–0.285% and maximum stresses of 244.64–279.77 MPa. However, for the 24 m span, deformation increases to drift ratios of 0.421–0.442% and stresses of 232.95–259.95 MPa, causing some models to exceed the SNI limit and the yield strength limitation (SR > 1). Therefore, in earthquake-sensitive areas, straight WF rafters are recommended only for gable frames with short to medium spans. Meanwhile longer spans require modified profiles or alternative structural systems to satisfy strength and serviceability criteria.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the condition of latrine facilities and assess environmental health risks in Jetis Village, Nusawungu District, Cilacap Regency. The study is part of the Environmental Health Risk Assessment (EHRA) conducted for the development of the District Sanitation Strategy (SSK). The method employed was a participatory household survey in the selected village, focusing on latrine facility indicators and sanitation behavior based on STBM pillars. The study results indicate that although private latrine access reached 93%, the greatest risk stems from fecal sludge management. A total of 95% of septic tanks were suspected to be unsafe and 67.8% were never emptied, indicating a high potential for contamination. Furthermore, Open Defecation (OD) behavior was still detected in 22.7% of households. These findings highlight the urgency of sanitation interventions focused on improving septic tank safety at the study location.
