Waste that is not managed properly can cause the environment to become dirty and cause silting of the river which results in flooding. The amount of waste production is in line with the large number of residents, the higher the population growth rate, the higher and the rate of waste production. Waste management cannot only be done downstream, but also starts from upstream. Many programs have been carried out in waste management, one of which is a waste bank. The waste bank program encourages people to do sorting before depositing inorganic waste in the waste bank. Inorganic waste that can be recycled, such as plastic bottles used for mineral water, can be economically valuable by being put in a tube in a waste bank, while organic waste such as vegetable and fruit residues can be further processed into eco-enzymes. This activity aims to transfer knowledge and technology for processing organic waste into eco-enzymes, so that the community can participate in preserving the earth. The method of activities carried out was counseling and demonstration. This activity achieved the target in accordance with the objectives; this can be seen from the participation and enthusiasm of the community during the activity.

The city of Padang produces approximately 600 tons of waste daily, which includes the categories of recyclable and non-recyclable waste. However, the percentage of waste that can be recycled is only about 17% and the rest must be heaped into end landfill every day. The category of recycled waste is counted as much as 65% is organic waste that is made into compost and 35% is both plastic and paper waste that is processed into other products. Maggot, which is the larva of the Black Soldier Fly, is an organic matter-decomposing agent that has better decomposition capabilities than other organisms. Maggot has biomass with high protein and fat content. Maggot farming is the most appropriate effort needed by the community today, because in addition to processing daily organic waste, it will also produce feed for livestock such as chicken, duck, fish, and bird. The farming process only requires simple technology and low cost, but is able to reduce the earth's waste load. The Andalas University community service team provided training on maggot farming to process organic waste from community households. The training was carried out using the Hybrid method, which is a combination of offline and online techniques with the same goal. The activity began with counseling on theoretical explanations, followed by both the farming practices and further program assisting. It hopes that the activity will be improved by other trainings such as Maggot’s processing into more valuable products, so that it can be packaged in such a way as to be marketed to the target purchasers.

There is still a lack of knowledge of Andalas University inventors on the importance of the Innovation Readiness Level (KATSINOV), which is a tool to measure the level of innovation. Therefore, it is necessary to hold socialization to the inventors and SMEs of Padang City to provide information about the importance of this KATSINOV. This socialization activity was carried out through a zoom meeting by inviting experts in this field. The method used is the presentation method, namely by providing socialization about KATSINOV to the inventors and tenants of Andalas University. In addition, the methods used were observation and direct interviews with Andalas University inventors to identify and measure KATSINOV's respective products. Socialization was provided by resource persons who understand KATSINOV. Katsinov is organized into six levels and seven key aspects covering technology, market, organization, partnership, risk, manufacturing and investment. This socialization activity resulted in the measurement of the level of product innovation readiness of Andalas University research. Furthermore, it was necessary to design a website-based application to facilitate the measurement of KATSINOV research products and West Sumatra MSME products.

The RegRa farm and hatchery in Lubuk Tarok, Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra, has started a duck egg hatchery business. The hatchery business is not following good standards and has not brought high profits. This is because the hatchability of the eggs produced is still low; it takes time every day to turn the eggs over; the size of ducklings is many small, and the fertile eggs to be hatched are still purchased from other places. The community engagement team gave the solution for this problem: renovating the hatching machine with automatic egg turning, repairing the enlargement cage, renovating the cage, and caring for the ducklings. The solutions offered were carried out well by partners. As a result, the hatchability of eggs increases, the ducklings sold are healthy and agile, and there is a desire to raise ducklings to produce their fertile eggs in the future.

Activities intended for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in West Sumatra in obtaining Halal product certificates. The activity began with socialization and registration by MSMEs for products to be registered for halal certification. MSMEs, which are generally engaged in food processing, lack knowledge of the importance of product legality. The need to obtain product certification is demanded by increasing market competition and public awareness of the importance of the safety of a product they consume. In addition, the lack of knowledge of small business actors about the procedures that must be passed is also a significant problem. So, the implementation of this activity is significant in increasing the competitiveness of partner products. This community engagement activity aimed to help partners in product and business development and become partner facilitators to obtain product Halal certificates.

The unemployment rate is high, even among university graduates, due to the lack of expertise required for work. Andalas University is one of the universities that support student entrepreneurship. One of the efforts made is the existence of compulsory Entrepreneurship courses for all registered students. Entrepreneurship activities are one of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) programs intending to respond to the challenges of graduates becoming qualified human resources. They can create employment opportunities and be entrepreneurial experienced. This community engagement activity was essential, with the target community being entrepreneurial students starting startups in 2020. Students were developing twenty-four startup businesses. The food beverage sector, including cultivation, is essential—other running businesses, in addition to the clothing or fashion, handicraft, pharmaceutical, beauty and service businesses. The team formulated the stages of business development for the startup pattern starting from the completeness of business legality to the technical scale-up of the business. Entrepreneurial students must have assistance from Andalas University lecturers, who can cooperate with the companies, enriching the student's business experience before entering the post-campus period.
