Abstract

This study aims to analyze the patron-client relationship pattern between clove farmers and collecting traders in the practice of ijon (crop lien) in Lalumpe Village, Motoling Subdistrict, South Minahasa Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with six informants, and field documentation. Data analysis was conducted inductively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that ijon practices are not merely economic transactions, but part of a social relationship system grounded in trust, kinship, and reciprocal dependency. Farmers deliberately choose trusted traders, even though the clove price they receive is far below the market rate. Traders act as patrons by providing unsecured loans with flexible repayment. This relationship forms a mutualistic symbiosis, but also creates long-term structural dependency that economically benefits the traders. These practices are not regulated by formal contracts but by social norms, local ethics, and the moral economy system embedded in Tountemboan agrarian communities. This study concludes that ijon should be understood as a manifestation of local economic culture, rather than merely a mechanism of market exploitation.

Abstract

Career choice among Indonesian youth does not occur autonomously but is shaped through negotiation with the surrounding social environment, particularly families that continue to regard formal employment as the primary marker of stability and success. This complexity becomes more pronounced when young people pursue non-conventional career paths such as do-it-yourself (DIY) music, which offers creative autonomy yet is marked by economic uncertainty. This article examines how DIY musicians in Purwokerto navigate their transition into the labour market, negotiate career choices with their families, and develop adaptive strategies to ope with structural constraints and dominant formal-work norms. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach and informed by Karl Mannheim’s theory of social generations, data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant-as-observer, observations involving DIY musicians aged 20-24 who are still enrolled in higher education, additional informants who have completed the transition phase, and parents of the main informants. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model with source triangulation. The finding reveal that DIY youth transitions involve ongoing negotiation between creative aspirations, familial expectations, and limitations within the local music ecosystem, addressed through adaptive strategies combining creative labour, paid work, and collective networks.

Abstract

Contemporary pesantrens have developed in response to modernity and digitalisation. Santri non-mukim, who attend activities at the Jegongan Manfaat pesantren but do not live there, face challenges such as inconsistent commitment, minimal supervision, and attachment to other areas, such as school, work, and family. This study uses Pierre Bourdieu's practice-based theory of habitus, capital, and field to analyse strategies for nurturing non-resident students at the Jegongan Manfaat pesantren. A qualitative research method involving observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation was employed using a case study approach. The results show three main strategies: community-based mentoring through age-based segmentation to strengthen solidarity; an interpersonal approach involving persuasive discussion and personal guidance; and implementing a contemporary Islamic education curriculum that connects religious studies with modern issues. Repetitive social practices and intense interactions allow religious values to be internalised, forming the habitus of non-resident students. These findings emphasise the role of contemporary pesantrens as effective environments for shaping religious attitudes in the face of modern challenges.

Abstract

Traditional medicine is a cultural heritage that has been used for generations by the people of Genuk District, Semarang City. The people of Semarang City still maintain traditional medicine practices, one of which is the tradition of traditional medicine for mothers and babies after childbirth. The persistence of this traditional medicine practice is based on the fact that the postpartum phase is a crucial phase for mothers and babies. In addition to being considered to have fewer side effects than modern medicine, traditional medicine also reflects respect for local traditions in the community. This study aims to describe the classification of "dukun bayi" who practice traditional medicine, describe the traditional postpartum medicine practices carried out in Genuk District, Semarang City, and to determine the perceptions and beliefs of the local community regarding traditional medicine. The research method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method involving in-depth interviews with informants, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out in three ways, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that traditional postpartum care practices in Genuk District, Semarang City, are performed by two practitioners, namely “terapis bayi” and “dukun bayi”. By using existentialism theory, this study reveals that traditional healing is perceived, interpreted, and practiced by the people of Semarang City as part of their cultural identity amid modernization.

Abstract

The Dayak Kendawangan Siakaran people of Randai Village possess knowledge of wild food plants, derived from their daily interactions with the environment and from knowledge passed down through generations. This research was conducted with the aim of preserving the local ecological knowledge of the Dayak Kendawangan Siakaran people regarding wild food plants through documentation and recording. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and free listing. The obtained data was then analyzed using RFC calculations, with the aim of observing and measuring how widely a plant species is known within a community. The results showed 104 species of wild food plants, divided into 42 family groups. Within these family groups, the largest number of wild food plants known to the Dayak Kendawangan Siakaran people is Arecaceae. The most commonly used part is the fruit (50%). Most of the wild plants known to the Dayak Kendawangan Siakaran people originate from forests. However, currently, the amount of forest in Randai Village is starting to decline in its primary function due to deforestation. This poses a threat to the local ecological knowledge of the Dayak Kendawangan Siakaran people regarding wild food plants. Therefore, to maintain their knowledge of wild plants from these threats, the Dayak Kendawangan Siakaran people are using a method of transplanting wild food plants.

Abstract

The fast changes in digital technology have transformed how education is conducted, while simultaneously positioning digital citizenship as an increasingly essential competency. This concept not only pertains to the skills required to use technology but also encompasses attitudes, responsibilities, and ethics within digital spaces. Although studies on digital citizenship have been growing, a comprehensive overview of the research trajectory remains limited. This article aims to map the research trends on digital citizenship in education through a bibliometric analysis based on Scopus data. Data were collected using the keywords “digital citizenship” and “education” for the publication period 2005–2026, resulting in 188 articles that were analyzed using Biblioshiny, following the PRISMA selection framework. The analysis revealed a significant increase in publications, particularly after 2021. The United States emerged as the country with the highest publication output, followed by several European and Asian countries. In terms of research themes, studies largely focus on digital literacy, digital competence, citizenship education, and the use of technology in learning. The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated interest in this topic, especially in the context of online learning. However, author collaboration networks remain fragmented and do not yet show strong cross-cluster connectivity. In addition, issues such as digital equity and digital activism appear only marginally in the literature. These findings indicate that, despite rapid growth in this field, there remains ample opportunity to strengthen more critical and collaborative approaches in future research.

Abstract

The proliferation of digital communication technologies has fundamentally restructured the paradigm of sports organizations' stakeholder engagement strategies. This quantitative investigation examines the influential mechanisms through which social media platforms affect fan engagement levels toward sports entities. Employing purposive sampling methodology, 80 active sports enthusiasts meeting predetermined criteria participated in structured questionnaire administration. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that social media variables collectively explain 74.2% variance in fan engagement intensity (R2 = 0.742, F = 18.245, p < 0.000). Instagram emerged as the predominant platform demonstrating strongest influence (β = 0.412, p < 0.000), followed by YouTube (β = 0.298, p = 0.001). Content analysis identified match highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, and athlete personal narratives as primary engagement drivers, achieving mean scores exceeding 4.3 on five-point Likert scales. Conversely, commercial- promotional content exhibited negligible impact on engagement metrics. Findings underscore the imperative for sports organizations to architect content ecosystems prioritizing authenticity, emotional resonance, and participatory elements rather than conventional broadcast approaches. This research contributes empirical evidence supporting strategic reorientation of digital communication frameworks toward relationship-centric paradigms in contemporary sports marketing landscapes.

Abstract

The expansion of large-scale oil palm plantations in South Kalimantan has triggered massive transformations in the ecological landscape and the socioeconomic structure of local communities. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of resilience and vulnerability in the livelihoods of the Dayak Bakumpai people, a Dayak sub-ethnic group with a strong historical dependence on river and wetland ecosystems. Using qualitative methods with a case study approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that land conversion into oil palm plantations has eroded the community’s traditional resource base, such as reduced access to forest land and the loss of local biodiversity. These conditions create new vulnerabilities, particularly for households lacking the capital to adapt to the market economy. However, on the other hand, forms of resilience were identified, including ecological resilience and adaptive land management, economic resilience and food sovereignty, socio-cultural resilience (social capital), as well as institutional resilience and litigation.  This study concludes that although the Dayak Bakumpai community demonstrates a certain degree of resilience, the ongoing pressure of monoculture expansion without strong protection of customary rights risks triggering deeper structural marginalization in the future.

Abstract

The development of a tourism village in the Lok Baintan Floating Market still faces various challenges. Problems such as the community's low understanding of the concept of village tourism, limited innovation in tourism product development, and a lack of coordination between stakeholders are obstacles in destination management. Social capital is a key element that determines the dynamics of village development. The purpose of this study is to analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors in the utilization of social capital. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, data collection through participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and focus group discussions. The results show that supporting factors include the strength of local values that are still maintained. These values form trust, as well as adaptation to technology. Obstacles include individualism, language barriers, low involvement of the younger generation, natural conditions, and limited infrastructure and regulations.
