Abstract

Catcalling is a trendy issue nowadays. This phenomenon often positions women as victims. Ironically, at the same time, some people still consider catcalling as a normal thing, even making it part of jokes and compliments. The fact that society still underestimates catcalling cases is that various actions that lead to these actions tend to occur frequently until now. This research aims to reveal the Qur'anic view of catcalling, which conducts research work using a literal research model or library research (library research) using a descriptive-qualitative method. The approach used in this research is Muhammad Shahrur's theory, namely the theory of nazhariyyah al-hudud (limit theory). In the case of catcalling, it is the reading of catcalling using threshold theory. The results showed that based on the reading using Muhammad Sayahrur's theory, it was found that the minimum limit was close to adultery and the maximum limit of adultery. So that a temporary conclusion can be drawn, catcalling is prohibited because it is included between the minimum limit and the maximum limit from the interpretation of Q.S. Al-Hujurat: 11. Al-Hujurat ayat 11.

Abstract

The large amount of expenditure and lack of income during Covid 19 gave rise to the term or trend Frugal Living which is believed to have emerged to answer questions from several individuals or groups in allocating their finances so that there is no waste in everyday life. The reason is that the Frugal Living trend originates from the western region, which makes it difficult for many Indonesians, most of whom are Muslims, to follow this trend because they feel like it is western culture. Even though this trend is very good if carried out, this trend has also been explained in the Al-Qur'an surah Al-Isra' Verses 26-27 and this verse has been confirmed by modern interpretations, one of which is the Al-Misbah interpretation. This research also compares Quraish Shihab's thoughts in his interpretation of Al-Misbah with Buya Hamka in his interpretation of Al-Azhar through a comparison table. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with more emphasis on observing existing phenomena. The data sources used consist of the Koran, hadith, tafsir books, as well as several literature from books, journals and articles related to frugal living. The results of this research show that the frugal living trend has a very good impact if it is followed by individuals or groups because this is also stated in the Al-Qur'an surah Al-Isra' verses 26-27.

Abstract

Tafsir Nusantara in the Science Field: A Bibliometric Analysis in 2011-2022 Using Scopus Database. The study of tafsir nusantara is a cultural product that was born from the dialectical process between the mufassir and the cultural reality. This research aims to analyze the study of tafsir nusantara in the science field using bibliometric techniques from 2011-2022. This research was conducted on August 25, 2022. The data obtained were 16 documents taken from the Scopus database with the keyword "tafsir nusantara in the science field". The data was mapped using VOSviewer software. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that research of tafsir nusantara in the science field is still limited. According to Scopus data, research on tafsir nusantara in the science field has only been around since 2011. The dominant language used is English with 14 documents, Arabic for 1 document, and Malay for 1 document. The most dominant countries that contributed articles were Indonesia with 6 documents, Malaysia with 5 documents, and other countries with only 1 document. Based on the Vosviewer visualization, all research resulted in four clusters. The first cluster is related to research, qualitative methodology, and data analysis. The second cluster is related to Indonesia, traditions, and religion. The third cluster relates to the influence of Islam, history, and the Qur'an. The fourth cluster deals with Malaysia, curriculum, and students. Thus, this research is targeted to find out the development of tafsir nusantara research in the science field and to assist future research.

Abstract

Humans cannot be separated from wealth. Even as Muslims, in performing acts of worship or transactions, wealth is needed, for instance, in performing Hajj. The reality is that many Muslims are unable to perform Hajj due to financial constraints. This situation is exacerbated by stereotypes from preachers, such as on Teuku's YouTube channel, where he stated that Allah hastens the rewards for non-believers in this world while Muslims will receive them in the hereafter. This can become a mental block for Muslims, causing them to resign to their circumstances and be reluctant to strive for stable financial goals. Additionally, there is a ḥadīṡ narrated by at-Tirmiżi where the Prophet prayed to live and die in a state of poverty because the poor will enter paradise earlier than the wealthy. However, upon closer examination, this ḥadīṡ is considered ḥadīṡ garib and cannot be used as a binding proof. It can be seen that being wealthy is not prohibited, as it can make many things easier for us. However, everyone's definition of wealth is different. To address this issue, the author employs a Maqasidi interpretation approach using descriptive analysis. The article finds that the orientation of wealth according to the Qur'an is not solely focused on material possessions but rather towards spiritual orientation (inner wealth). Abundance holds significant importance in fulfilling life's needs, both in worship (ibadah mahdlah) and transactions (muamalah). However, the article highlights that true wealth lies in richness of the heart, as financial wealth not used for the good of Allah's path may be in vain and provide no benefit in the afterlife. Therefore, a balance between worldly and hereafter aspects is needed in attaining wealth.

Abstract

The books of tafsir in regional languages in Indonesia are the result of the local mufassir's shrewdness in harmonizing the language of the Qur'an and adaptation to the surrounding social and cultural background. The existence of this, is able to produce works of interpretation that make it easier for the interpreting community to read it as well as the vernacularization of the Qur'an. One of them is the book of Tafsir al-Ibriz. This research discusses the style of language and vernacularization in Tafsir al-Ibriz by KH. Bisri Musthofa Rembang. By using the literature method, this research produces descriptive analysis data, among others: the existence of interactive language styles of interpretation such as jajal pikiren, analogies of interpretation such as umpamane mengkene, vernacularization of terms such as Ora tau rewel, ora tau ndongkrok, and Javanese proverbs such as becik ketitik ala ketara in Tafsir al-Ibriz.  This means that there is local wisdom in the treasures of the archipelago's interpretation.

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of reciting verses 22-24 of Surah al-Hashr, a practice commonly performed within the dhikr following the compulsory Maghrib and Fajr prayers at the Sulaimaniyyah Tahfiz Islamic Boarding School in Pati. In this Islamic institution, all students are mandated to participate in this tradition, ensuring their habitual engagement in their daily lives. Employing a Living Qur'an study and a phenomenological approach, the research methodology relied on observation, interviews, and documentation within an interpretative study aimed at elaborating various human experiences. Additionally, Karl Mannheim's theory was employed to analyze the issue from objective, expressive, and documentary perspectives. This study provides the following conclusions: First, the tradition of Surah al-Hashr verses 22-24 recitation, performed on a daily basis after the compulsory Magrib and Fajr prayers, serves as a motivational tool to inspire readers and to tap into the numerous benefits it contains. Second, the objective meaning of reciting these verses establishes the long-standing nature of this tradition, with the holistic purpose of nurturing students into virtuous and Qur'anic individuals. Whereas, the expressive meaning may offer a self-protection, serving as a formidable shield against external malevolence, particularly for the students, protecting them from evil forces that seek to beguile and interfere human beings. Furthermore, it facilitates the students in their Quran memorization processes. In terms of documentary meaning, this tradition helps fostering religious devotion among students, both to their relationship with Allah (hablun minallah) and their relationship with fellow human beings (hablun minannas).

Abstract

Reconstructing the Meaning of Polygamy in the Context of Gender Relations Study of Surah an-Nisā’ [4]: 3 Using the  Ma‘nā-Cum-Maghzā Approach. This article aims to reconstruct the meaning of polygamy in Surah an-Nisā’ verse 3 within the context of gender relations. To achieve this goal, this research employs a deconstructive paradigm using a hermeneutical approach, ma‘na-cum-maghzā method by Sahiron Syamsuddin, and feminist theory as analytical tools. The study yields two main findings: (1.) Universally, the primary message (maghzā) contained in Surah an-Nisā’ verse 3 emphasizes the importance of gender justice for women. Thus, in a broader context, the maghzā of this verse rejects any actions that subordinate and negate women’s rights, Thus, from here, this research aligns with the opinion of Muhammad Irsad.; (2.) When the universal moral value of Surah an-Nisā’ verse 3, stating the importance of gender justice, is recontextualized into the specific context of polygamy, this research aligns with the view that the primary directive in this verse is monogamy accompanied by efforts to build a harmonious and quality Islamic family. Polygamy, on the other hand, can only be practiced under highly specific and urgent conditions. Additionally, this study rejects actions that use this verse as a legitimization for patriarchal views that tend to relegate women to a secondary class in society.

Abstract

Building interreligious relations was often viewed merely from social perspectives. It actually contains theological values. This research attempts to analyze the theological values in the tolerance and interreligious relation verses of the Qur’an that are interpreted by Syaikh Nawawi Al-Bantani. This descriptive-analytical study employs thematic methods by Al-Farmawi. The collected data are then analyzed in terms of its theological aspect. Marah Al-Labid is chosen for it’s written by an Indonesian scholar connecting classic and modern era. In addition, Marah Al-Labid is of Sufistic tafsir. Therefore, it is interesting to know how an Indonesian scholar viewed interreligious relation and its spiritual and theological values in the context of Indonesia. It can be concluded that having interreligious relation is lawful. Muslims are allowed to have social relation with Ahlul kitab or the people of books such as to get marry with them, to eat the meat of the animals they (Jews and Christians) slaughtered, and to have debate and discussion with them in the best way.
