Abstract

This study aimed at examining the opportunities for adapting the passion scale to Japanese literature students who carried out the online learning process in Indonesia. This study used quantitative covariance structure design as the application of item response theory. From a sample of 148 undergraduate students, originally from three different courses. Data were obtained by filling out a virtual questionnaire which adapted from the original Dual Model Passion scale. Since this scale had been developed abroad, the data were analysed quantitatively using confirmatory factor analysis and regression, this study replicated the similar analysis while examined passion by using five criteria such as time, like, value, passion, identity as used in the previous development process. In addition, the criteria for student characteristics (gender and age) and conditions (first year vs. advanced year) in attending online lectures by observing the relationship between the two main dimensions of passion). The results showed that first year students tend to have a higher harmonious passion (HP), while second year students had a higher obsessive passion (OP). In conclusion, several things needed to be considered by researchers and lecturers at tertiary institutions such as course and student characteristics, so that students' passion remained good even though they had to study online during the outbreak of the Covid-19.

Abstract

This study aims at analyzing difficulties, identifying the support and needs of lecturers in academic writing, also lecturers’ perceptions toward the potential of the MBKM program to strengthen academic writing activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study employed a quantitative approach with historical survey methods and a descriptive study design. The data were collected utilizing multiple-choice questionnaires and descriptions along with Focus Group Discussions (FGD) activities. The subjects of this study were 45 lecturers from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Serang Campus and Universitas Banten Jaya. The data were analyzed interactively based on theoretical propositions which were divided into 2 cases, namely opportunities and challenges with 4 aspects of discussion, such as difficulties, support, needs, and potential for the MBKM program. The results showed that most of the lecturers experienced difficulties in funding as well as the skills to express ideas and find suitable sources even though their productivity was still quite good. The institutional support in terms of funding and referral sources is still there however the number is decreasing. Nevertheless, language training and facilitation are prominently required. The lecturers’ need to support their academic writing activities is writing training and collaboration across departments as well as study programs. Their activeness in participating MBKM program correlates with their writing productivities also in lecturers’ exchange activities and collaborative research as well. The number and activities in academic writing need to be elevated to help productivity in academic writing during the Covid-19 pandemic. The MBKM program has the potential to accommodate these requirements.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the perceptions and motivations of kindergarten teachers regarding early childhood educator’s competency development. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires presented in google form format and enriched through in-depth interviews. The subjects in this study were 55 kindergarten teachers spread across Bali province. The data analysis technique of this research used the development of Miles and Huberman. The results of the study showed that teacher knowledge about educator’s competency was still lacking in depth. Most of the teachers considered the competence of educators only having ability in teaching. Based on perception, teachers who had certified competency have positive perception toward development of early childhood education. In terms of motivation, all teachers have high motivation in developing competence as early childhood education educators. Teachers who have been certified to improve the quality of learning lead to training in child development tasks, and certified teachers in addition to insight and skills in teaching are also preparation for participating in PPG programs in the future. The perception and motivation of early childhood education educators will greatly impact the quality of learning provided to early childhood. For this reason, early childhood education teachers must continue to be active and participatory in participating in various teacher competency development programs.

The population includes all high school students in the Bogor Regency area for the 2020/2021 academic year and biology teachers in the Bogor Regency area with a sample of 337 students from 10 schools and 60 biology subject teachers. This research data collection technique uses a questionnaire or a questionnaire via google form which is analyzed by describing various research results in the form of percentages. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the implementation of PJJ has been going well. The indicators are the completeness of supporting facilities and infrastructure for PJJ, teacher readiness in implementing PJJ, student participation, student attendance rate, application and learning methods used, achievement of learning objectives, and completeness of student learning outcomes cognitively. Based on these indicators, 70% of students and 55% of teachers think that the implementation of PJJ has been running effectively. Obstacles faced in the implementation of PJJ include the lack of active students in learning, discipline in collecting assignments, poor internet network, lack of internet quota availability, difficulty understanding some materials and too many tasks that must be done by students.
