Abstract

Practical guide books need to be prepared to ensure a good practicum activity. The sample used in the practicum should also be chosen carefully so as not to lead to misconception in students. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of a practical guide for testing nutrients in goat's milk in Food Substances for class XI SMA. This type of research is research and development (R&D) that uses the first 3 stages of the 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate). The research instrument used was a validation sheet in the form of a questionnaire. There are 5 product validators consisting of 2 lecturers from the Biology Education Study Program, FKIP Tanjungpura University and 3 biology teachers from 3 high schools in Pontianak City. The type of validation used is content validity which contains 3 aspects, namely aspects of format, content, and language. The results showed that the development of a practicum guide for testing nutrients in goat's milk was successfully carried out and obtained a validity value of CVR=1. Thus, the practicum guide is valid in content and deserves to be tested both on a limited and broad basis to ensure the suitability of the development design with the needs’ analysis. The practical guide for testing nutrients in goat's milk is also expected to be able to provide solutions to the misconceptions found in the Food Substances related to the selection of more effective and efficient practicum materials.

Abstract

In Indonesia, there is a tendency to increase the use of e-cigarettes. The content of e-cigarettes can increase Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) thereby reducing the quality of spermatozoa. This research is an experimental study using a completely randomized design which aims todetermine the potential of strawberry juice, Tomato juice and the combination of the two juices at several concentrations on the sperm quality of mice exposed to e-cigarette smoke. The experimental animals were 48 male mice aged 3 months and weighing 27 g - 30 g. E-cigarette smoke exposed to mice using a vaporizer containing e-liquid with a nicotine content of 3 mg as much as 1.5 ml was exposed for 10 minutes a day for 36 days. The concentrations of strawberry, Tomato juice and the combination of the two juices used were 50%, 75% and 100%. The motility, viability and morphology of sperm were observed using a microscope. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and LSD. The results showed that there was an effect of strawberry, Tomato juice and both combinations of fruit juice on motility (p=0.000), viability (p=0.000) and morphology (P=0.000). The fruit juice that has the most potential to improve the sperm quality of mice due to exposure to e-cigarette smoke is a combination of strawberry: Tomato juice with a concentration of 100:100. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of strawberry and Tomato juice can be used as an increase in sperm quality due to exposure to e-cigarette smoke.

Abstract

Catfish is a demersal fish inhabiting the waters of the River. There are two species that are often caught in the Barumun River: the blacktip sea catfish (Piicofillis dussumieri Valenciennes, 1840) and the grey eel catfish (Plotosus canius Bleeker, 1858). Both of these species have economic value that is quite important for the coastal communities of Labuhanbatu Regency. Fishing gear used to take samples of fish in the form of: trap, gill nets, and fishing rods. All fish caught were then measured in total length using a ruler and their weight using analytical scales. Analysis of research data using the Linear Allometric Model (LAM) equation. Based on the results of the study the length relationship of blacktip sea catfish weight obtained values b = 32,38 and R2 = 0.95 and grey eel catfish obtained values b = 2,56 and R2 = 0.26. It was concluded that the long relationship ofblacktip sea catfish weight is allometric positive and grey eel catfish is allometric negative. The results of observations of water quality parameters for temperature (29-30ºC), brightness (0.5 – 0.8 m), current speed (0.8 – 0.9 m/s), salinity (5.1 - 15.3 ‰), pH (6), and dissolved oxygen (6.9 – 7.2 mg/L) and habitat conditions of both catfish species are still in accordance with quality standards for river waters.

Abstract

Each region has a unique medical culture. The traditional culture of the Sasaknese on Lombok Island has been accustomed to using various types of plants in their traditional medical culture. Those who known to have knowledge and abilities about traditional medicine known as Belian. Knowledge about the types of medicinal plants and the methods and techniques of treatment are generally passed down in the kinship hierarchy. One group of people who are still attached to the tradition of traditional medicine is the special Sasak tribe of the Karang Bayan community, West Lombok. The elders believe that the origin of these communities is from the Bayan region, North Lombok, which is known as a wetu telu area with unique cultural characteristics and relatively preserved local cultural knowledge. Observations, interviews and collection of medicinal plant specimens were carried out in Karang Bayan. Determination of the samples using the snowball method. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively by summarizing the results of interviews and parsing various medicinal plants and diseases that are believed to be cured. Furthermore, the data generated and then triangulated (comparing the data obtained with books or journals relating to the research). A total of 47 types of medicinal plants are used to treat 33 types of diseases and symptoms of certain diseases by the Karang Bayan community. Plant parts such as roots, stems, bark, leaves, fruit, seeds, sap, and even the whole plant body are used in medicine. During the compounding process until the application of drugs using certain, Belian (healers) believe that if the procedure is ignored then the patient will not get a cure. This resulted in the formation of strong suggestions in maintaining the traditional treatment procedures for both traditional healers and the patient.
