Abstract

Catfish is a consumption fish that is in great demand so that production continues to be increased. Pineapple hump are known to be rich in bromelain enzymes. The bromelain enzyme has properties similar to proteolytic enzymes, which have the ability to hydrolyze proteins. This study aims to determine the optimal dose of pineapple hump extract in feed on the growth performance of the Sangkuriang catfish. The test fish used were catfish seeds measuring 3-5 cm and weighing ± 3 g. This study used an experimental method in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications, with P0 (control) 0% pineapple hump extract; P1 dose 0.75%; P2 1.5% and P3 3% extract/kg feed. Probiotics were added to the rearing medium to maintain water quality as much as 1.5 ml/liter. The results showed that the addition of pineapple hump extract in the P2 treatment with a dose of 1.5% showed the highest value at absolute length of 4.4 cm, at absolute weight of 2.3 g, Specific Growth Rate (SGR) of 4.5% and the survival rate is 86% and the lowest value for each observation is in the P0 (control) treatment. However, the statistical test did not show a significant difference in results. Based on the results of the study, pineapple hump extract can be used in feed to increase the growth of the Sangkuriang catfish at a dose of 1.5%/kg of feed.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the level of degradation of palm oil mill effluent (POME) contamination as a medium for growing kale and catfish in a bucket fish cultivation system. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments and three replications. The treatments in this study were variations in the concentration of POME added to the culture media consisting of Control (0 mg.L-1), A (1,565 mg.L-1), B (2,347 mg.L-1), and C (3,130 mg.L-1). The test fish used were 5-7 cm catfish, 20 fish per bucket obtained from a local BBI, while the kale used was obtained from commercially sold seeds. Budikdamber maintenance time was conducted for 30 days and then analyzed by ANOVA. The parameters examined included the degradation rate of COD, TSS, phosphate, nitrate, and ammonia, pH, DO, and temperature of the cultivation media. The results showed that there was a decrease in COD, phosphate, nitrate and ammonia levels with increasing LCKS concentration, while TSS degradation showed a decrease with increasing POME concentration. The 3,130 mg.L-1 treatment, although showing a significant decrease in DO levels and an increase in pH, was still within the range allowed in fish cultivation. This indicates that the budikdamber system is less effective in decomposing the POME content and maintaining aquaculture water quality parameters.

Abstract

Ulva lactuca is one of the green seaweeds that widely developed as a cosmetic preparation. U. lactuca has the potential to be used as seaweed salt and the residue of seaweed salt can be used as a body scrub preparation material. In addition, natural ingredients that can be used for cosmetic preparations are turmeric (Curcuma longa) rhizome. This study aimed to determine the optimum formulation and the best physical characteristics of seaweed (U. lactuca) and turmeric (C. longa) rhizomes. This study was experimental with four treatments and two replications, the concentration of the scrub preparation was 7% U. lactuca salt residue and 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% turmeric rhizome powder. The best body scrub preparation is the F3 treatment with a pH value, viscosity and spreadability that meets the requirements for cosmetic preparations, all treatments can moisturize the skin and do not cause irritation to the skin, has an M/A emulsion type, a body scrub preparation that is stable, has the appearance, texture, panelists preferred color and aroma. All treatments showed that formulations with the addition of gram residues of U. lactuca and turmeric rhizome could affect the characteristics of the resulting scrub preparations.

Abstract

Natural ingredients that have sunscreen activity, namely galangal (Alpinia galanga) have a role in absorbing UV rays. Seaweed (Turbinaria. conoides) contains alkaloids, tannins, antioxidants, fucoxanthin. Many cases of skin damage due to harmful cosmetic ingredients and exposure to UV rays have encouraged the authors to explore the natural wealth of seaweed and galangal into skin care products. The aim of the study was to determine the optimum formulation and evaluate the best characteristics of seaweed and galangal sunscreen cream preparations. This research was experimental with four treatments and three replications giving concentrations of seaweed and galangal F0 (control), F1(1:1), F2(1:2), F3(2:1). The tests carried out included hedonic, homogeneity, centrifugal, viscosity, SPF, humidity and pH tests. The hedonic results show significant differences in color parameters (F3). All treatments produced cream type (O/W) and were homogeneous, there was no phase change in the centrifugal test. The viscosity and pH values meet the requirements and can moisturize, the highest SPF value (F2) is 3.67 in the minimum category. The more addition of seaweed affects the color characteristics. The more galangal added, the higher the SPF. Of all the treatments, the formulation with the addition of seaweed and galangal affected the characteristics of the resulting cream.

Abstract

The abundance of plankton can describe aquatic life. The Jurung fish is a plankton feeder freshwater fish which has high economic value. This study aimed to identify plankton recognition as an indicator of the presence of Jurung fish (Tor sp.) in the Leuser area of the Lokop River in Aceh and analyze the physico-chemical factors associated with attracting plankton in the Lokop River. This research was conducted from February to March 2021. The research showed that the number of types of plankton found in the Lokop river was 17 types (13 phytoplankton and 4 zooplankton). Diversity index value of 1.538364 – 2.133691 and evennes index of 0.542975 - 0.753099 were classified as mesotropic waters with moderate fertility levels. In general, based on observations of plankton in the Lokop river, Jurung fish could be cultivated from upstream to downstream. However, it is better to be at station 1 (upstream) because there are still a lot of plankton species so that the food needs of the Jurung fish can be fulfilled.
