Abstract

This paper focus on the decision making models which are initially applied in the economic, politic and psychology science. Only a few papers explore this issue, most of its reveal about the result study or the output instead of discussing the process of decision making. Discussion about the usage of decision making model as the analytic tool and the application of the model is quite few. Based on that, this paper try to explore the decision making process in relating to the fertility behavior by applying rational approach that was developed by Simon and Carley. Fertility behavior is important to analyze because as a variable, fertility contribute to the poverty condition in North Sulawesi border area (2006- 2007/ Therefore more deeply understanding about the decision making process related to the fertility matters, is necessary. Data based on the study of socio demographic poverty that was conducted by the PPK-LIPI in the North Sulawesi border area. Based on the decision making model it is indicated that the economic factor play an important role in the rationality of the fertility decision making. Keywords: Decision making model, rational approach, fertility behavior, North Sulawesi border area

Abstract

There is an increasing trend of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Subang District, a region characterized by high population mobility. Hence, this study aims to explain the factors that influence collaboration in HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Subang Regency. This study uses a latent construct of collaboration reflected by five dimensions: governance, administration, organizational authority, mutuality, and norms. This study uses quantitative methods and data collection techniques through distributing questionnaires to 72 respondents involved in HIV/AIDS prevention and prevention in Subang Regency. The selection of respondents represents government and non-government organizations based on quota sampling. Data were analyzed by Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in the second order confirmatory factor analysis to explain the collaboration measurement model as a latent construct. The results showed that all dimensions of the collaboration construct were valid and reliable. All dimensions can be said to significantly explain the collaborative construct of HIV/AIDS prevention and care. The dimensions of governance are the most valuable factors that influence the construct of collaboration, followed by organizational autonomy, administration, mutuality, and finally norms as dimensions with the smallest contribution value to collaboration.

Abstract

Global labor market which marked by the integration of labor between countries is also accompanied by the emergence of variety kind of new job along with the science-technology innovation and also creativity improvement to answer the increasingly fierce competition. Therefore, the higher education are demanded more to be able to respond the workforce needs that more dynamic and complex. Based on those issues, this paper will examine the relevance of university graduates in Indonesia and labor requirement in the global era. The used approach is a quantitative approach using secondary data from various sources such as the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Central Bureau of Statistics, ILO and the World Bank and several studies are relevant.Based on the macro data, it shows that Indonesia currently has a tendency in opened the new Higher Education (PT) massively and more profit oriented without being followed by the provision of adequate infrastructure and quality, and then resulting the increasing number of graduates. On the other hand, productive employment in Indonesia is also limited, so that the educated unemployed are relatively high. Another problem, McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) predicts that in the global labor market, in 2030 Indonesia is expected to experience a labor shortage of educated and skilled, but has excess in non-skilled labor. The gap between supply and demand in educated and skilled labor also supported by the ILO data (2015) about the labor who does not fulfill the education and skills qualification, which the proportion is more than half. Those issues are getting urgent to be solved, along with the implementation of ASEAN Economic Community and other regional agreement globally. This is because the lack of workforce will be immediately filled by foreign workers. Therefore, the cooperation and synergy between Higher Education (PT) and the world of business and industry, both national and international, need to be improved.

Abstract

A large number of population that not followed by the quality of human resources will burden the development of a country. Thus, some efforts are needed to reduce the fertility level. One solution to this issue is to delay the first birth. This study aims to assess the delayed first child birth in rural Indonesia and the affecting factors. This study analyzed secondary data using descriptive approach to have a general description of the delayed first birth. Moreover, a binary logistic regression model was fitted to determine the associated factors.  The results show that a socioeconomic variable that significantly associated with the delayed first child birth is husband’s job in the non-agricultural sector. Furthermore, the significant demographic variables are the age of first marriage age and the perception of an ideal number of children.

Abstract

Investment is important factor related to creatingjob opportunities. This study analyses the trend of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and its role to absorbed labour force. Explanatory method used in order to explain the characteristics of the industry and the panel regression to calculate the elasticity of labor absorption to FD/. The data is collected from the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKP M) in period of 2002 to 2007. The data shows the several findings. First, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry gets the highest value of the total FDI, which is 26.88 percent of total FDI, but gives a small contribution to the labor absorption. Second, the textile industry is the most labour absorbing even though it has lower value of total FDI. Third, the leather and textile industry are the most efficient industries. The Last, the pool/east square regression shows that U.S. $ 370 investment is required to absorb one labor. Keywords: Foreign direct investment (FDJ), labor absorption, industry.

Abstract

Traditional role of women in the fishing community of Barrang Lompo island focuses on ritual religious activity before fishermen fishing and selling fishing supplies. Until now the development of governments programs, such as sea conservation and introduction of new fishing technology, are gender bias, and tend to fail in the end of the programs. Understanding of women s cultural space is then very important to accelerate the implementation of the development program for the fishermen community.

Abstract

This study will explore the production approach of the food security regime in Indonesia, which increasingly marginalized peasant during the COVID-19 pandemic. The production approach emphasizes the role of global governance by encouraging trade liberalization and the large role of corporations to control the supply chain from upstream to downstream creating vulnerability to peasant. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a decline in market share of peasant agricultural products due to the closure of the wholesale market that supplies hotels and restaurants. The results of the study show that government policy during the COVID-19 pandemic increasingly benefited food corporations by easing operating hours for modern retailers and fixing selling prices that benefited corporations. Meanwhile, peasant are increasingly marginalized during the Corona virus outbreak in the operation of the food security regime with restrictions on the operation of traditional markets, price adjustments at the farm level, and the involvement of agribusiness application companies that are envisaged to help marketing, but in reality do not necessarily give selling prices which is beneficial due to the low bargaining power of  peasant.

Abstract

This study looked the gender wage gap in Indonesia from 2008-2012. In addition to looking at the wage gap average level, the study also looked at the wagegap at different quantile of the wage distribution, so it can be known whether the wage gap widened at the top of the wage distribution (indicative of glass ceilings) or widened at the bottom of the wage distribution (sticky floors). This study used data Sakernas 2008-2012 to estimate the wage equation of men and women using OLS standard. Then, the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition method (1973) is used to determine the magnitude of the gender wage gap based on gender that caused by the characteristics factors (explained effect) and the discrimination factor (unexplained effects). As for determining the gender wage gap in different quantile of the wagedistribution using quantile regression and applying decomposition Machado Mata (2005). This study found that the gender wage gap was still dominated by factors that can not be explained (Unexplained) and was indicated as discrimination, both at the average level and in each quantile of the wage distribution. This study also found evidence of sticky floor in Indonesia.

Abstract

In the last two decades, Indonesian higher education system has expanded rapidly in regards to the number of new established institutions and the number of students enrolled in higher education. However, the participation rate within university level is stated as low. In 2016, it only reached 31 percent. It means, although massification has been implemented within higher education system, it is not in line in ensuring equal access to pupils from disadvantaged social groups such as women, lower socio-economic statuses, and students from outer or periphery areas. Rather, it has been evident as a daunting task. Widening participation is not the end of story, since Indonesia should be dealing with another problem which is non-continuation. By performing secondary analysis on several datasets released by World Bank, Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, and Indonesian Statistics Bureau, this paper explores several major findings on accessibility and retention problem of Indonesian higher education.
