Abstract

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic requires each country to limit activities of its people outside the home by doing Work from Home (WFH). The purpose of this paper is to reveal the impact of WFH on worker productivity in the perspective of social psychology. The analysis shows that during WFH, worker productivity can increase due to the effects of social facilitation. Workers perceive the presence of others as triggers to increase their productivity. Conversely, workers' productivity can also decrease during working together with others because the presence of other people is perceived as a threat. On the other hand, job demands, distractors, and facilitators can activate the latent personality trait of an individual so that it manifests into a new work behavior during WFH. Strategies to maintain productivity is to use brainstorming, break down work teams into smaller, as well as the application of Nominal Group Technique

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the importance of human resources for the development of enterprises in Indonesia. Analysis in this paper is based on secondary data and desk reviews. Data showed that number of public enterprises in Indonesia has been developed rapidly since the early of pelita I, but it was not followed by improved performance of public enterprises. The empiric facts showed that most public enterprises lose money so they burden on the regional development budget. Many factors were associated with low performance of public enterprises such as human resources as the main factors for the performance of the company. Improving human resources can be made through the procurement function, development, compensation, integration and maintenance. Procurement workforce in the public enterprises should be avoided from corruption, manipulation and nepotism, so public enterprises could recruit competent employees. If these functions run properly, public enterprises would be able to obtain the human resources who are competent to improve the performance of public enterprises. Good performance of public enterprises, such as PDAM in Bogar can be a model of corporate development of other enterprises region in Indonesia. Keywords: human resources, public enterprises, company performance

Abstract

Street youth all over the world have been identified as the group suffering most from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STis) including HIV/AIDS. Nevertheless as they are very difficult to reach, this group has remained an underserved population. Based on a survey of 53 male street youth aged 15-24 years, seven open-ended interviews and one FGD, this study aims to explore sexual lives and risk of sexually transmitted infections including HIV infection among street youth in Medan. These include their views and experiences of sex, pornography, condom use and STis including HIV/AIDS. The study found that two thirds of respondents are sexually active and the majority of them reported having had sex with prostitutes. Openended interviews and FGD revealed that none of respondents use condom consistently. Many of them had been infected with STis, which they cured themselves. Keywords: Street youth, Sex. Abstract

The plan to relocate the Indonesian capital as set out in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) to East Kalimantan Province will start in 2024. During the process, the government also plans to move central civil servants to the new capital. The planned relocation of the capital city impacts all central civil servants located in DKI Jakarta and surrounding areas. This research used secondary data sources as a basis for population and employment projections. From the results obtained, West Java's population will continue to grow during the growth rate decline. The relocation plan will directly impact the West Java population, but the effect tends to be less significant given the small number of central civil servants located in west java compared to West Java's population as a whole. The relocation plan will impact social environment conditions, economic activity, and the environment in surrounding areas.

Abstract

Today, in Pekanbaru the situation of an abundant manpower supply but limited market capacity makes people, unable to find work, anxious to create their own businesses (self employment). Using primary data, the goal of this paper is to show the individual level determinants of self employment. A logistic regression model is used to estimate different aspects of choices between self employment and working for a salary. This study argues that age, gender, education, Chinese ethnicity and marital status play a significant role in the decision to become self employed in the city of Pekanbaru. As well, other variables such as Melayu or Minang ethnicity and migrant status play a small role in determining who is self employed. Most of the coefficients are positive, except for education and Melayu ethnicity with the Minang and Chinese ethnicity probability to become self employed better than that of the Melayu. There are some suggestions that Minang and Chinese people may place a higher value on entrepreneurship than do the Melayu. Indeed, the Chinese having faced severe discrimination have been pushed into self employment in large numbers. This research, however, also shows that the differences in decisions to be self employed vary substantially across ethnic lines. Therefore, the development of entrepreneurship requires a systematic and integrative approach to find out just what is involved in creating an environment conducive to the growth and development of entrepreneurship.Key Words : Self Employment, Personal Characteristics, Ethnic, Pekanbaru City
