Abstract

This paper discusses the population that confirmed positive for COVID-19 and died in Indonesia and DKI Jakarta, which is epicentre of corona virus transmission in this country. The trend of population confirmed positive COVID-19 continues to increase and fluctuate every day, while the percentage of population deaths tends to decline. The paper using secondary data revealed that male residents were more vulnerable to COVID-19 than women. The number of male population confirmed positive corona virus is higher and the percentage of death is much higher. Covid-19 attacks all age groups, but the population is over 46 years, especially 60 years and above, more vulnerable than other age groups. Infants, toddlers and children who are detected positively have a low percentage, but the quantity is quite large. The population risk reduction policy for COVID-19 is indispensable for all residents with priority given to more vulnerable groups in Indonesia and DKI Jakarta.

Abstract

Women participation in the business today cannot be neglected. Demographic data shows that the proportion of women in the total labor force from year to year is exhibiting an upward trend. The data also shows that approximately 66% of the working womens are at their reproductive age. Given on these circumstances, the aim of this paper is to study challenges as well as opportunities of fulfilling the right for exclusive breastfeeding among working women. This study uses data from in-depth interview of workingwomen and direct observation in office environment. The study found that the number of workingwomen able to do exclusive breastfeeding is still far from the expectation. On this founding, the study identified that the lack of support from both physical and social environments is the major reason. Most of respondents have not lactation room in their office and if they want to express the milk, they have to use inproper room, even in the toilet. In addition, they did not get support from their colleagues and it can influence the production of milk. Meanwhile, based on PP No. 33 Tahun 2012 about ASI Eksklusif states that workplace have to provide lactation room for their employee who breastfeed. The recommendation of this study are (1) autorized institution have to encourage workplace to provide the lactation room and the support facilities according to their financial ability (2) The workplace should make a campaign about exclusive breastfeeding with posters or brocures so it can increase awareness and knowledge to support ASI Eksklusif program (3) a strict sanctionmust be applied for the workplace which do not provide lactation room.

Abstract

The age of 0-6 years is the most critical period in determining the quality of life in the future. By participating in the activities of Bina Keluarga Balita (BKB), families are expected to be  able to provide the best care for the growth and development of the children. The purpose of this analysis is to determine: 1) The differences between  families member of BKB and families are not member BKB on their participation in growth and development of children age 0- 6 years.  2) Factors that affect the family's participation in growth and development of children age 0- 6 years.  This analysis used secondary data from Performance Indicator Survey of The National Medium Term Development Plan in Population and Family Planning Proram Year 2015. The survey was conducted in 34 provinces throughout Indonesia. Respondents used are families with children age  0-6 years, with the total number of respondents 16 172 families. The results showed that the family’s participation in the growth and development of children age  0-6 years is better in the family members of BKB than families who do not participate in BKB from all aspects (physical, mental and social). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the level of family welfare, maternal age, maternal education, maternal work status, family who have children aged 0-6 years, and family participation in BKB group has significant effect on family participation in growth and development of children age 0- 6 years

Abstract

This article reviews the recent discourse on forced migration in Southeast Asia. In the aftermath of the Cold War era, movements of people have entering a new predicament. The interstate wars have produced displaced populations that many have spill into the neighboring countries or oscillating within border areas. In these new political circumstances, studies on population movement shall move beyond the conventional theoretical framework, derives from the modernization theories. The increasing magnitude of forced displacement, in many instances resulted from the state's failures in resolving political conflicts, critically challenges the conventional study on migration in which politics and security, often neglected. From a narrow academic perspective, displaced people is divided into three broad groups, based on the major cause of displacement: violent conflicts, development and natural disasters. In Southeast Asia, internal conflict that produced internally displaced population and refugees that fill or cross the state borders, is often resulted from elite's conflict or conflict between different factions in the national government, that in turn produce tensions in the society at the grassroots levels. This article argues that the need for a new perspective beyond Eurocentric framework is needed to analyze unfolding events related to migration-development-security nexus in Southeast Asia. The failure of existing international refugee regime to contain the critical issues and the refugee crises in the region mirror the failure of regional cooperation in Southeast Asia to develop a viable regional framework to tackle the problem of refugee and the displaced population. Keywords: Political conflict, force migration, regional framework

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak has inevitably changed the situation in Indonesia and might bring a threat to gender equality. This short paper aims to explain the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women from health, economic, and social aspect in Indonesia. First, from the health aspect, women are vulnerable to COVID-19 since they play the main role in the care economy. Also, the pandemic situation has changed the regulation of reproductive health services and might intensify the unmet need of women on reproductive health care. Second, from the economic aspect, the pandemic has hit Indonesia’s economic situation and increases the unemployment rate as well as the informal worker on women. In addition, women also might be harder to return to market labor since it might be a limitation after the pandemic. Third, from the social aspect, due to working from home (WFH) regulation, women more likely to face a double burden to balance their productivity and domestic work. Not to mention that during the pandemic, the domestic violence to women has increased yet slower the responsiveness of the stakeholder to handle the reports.

Abstract

As an Archipelago, Indonesia consists of more than 18.000 islands, locating at the heart of the World 'Coral Triangle'. This country is well known as the highest coral reef biodiversity, especially in Raja Ampat, Selayar, Banda and Bunaken. This potential resource, however, in some places has been destroyed, due to oveifishing and destructive fishing practices. The Indonesian government, to address these threats has developed Coral Reefs Rehabilitation and Management Program or Coremap since the 2006. Coremap aims to manage, rehabilitate and protect coral reefs to ensure sustainable utilization of these marine resources for reducing poverty of coastal community and increasing their welfare. Coremap focuses on collaborative management by involving communities, loca{and national governments, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders. This paper is based on data from the 2008 and 2011 studies on socio-economic aspects of coral reefs in Coremap locations in the eastern part of Indonesia. The studies applied a combination between quantitative (survey) and qualitative (indepth interview and focus group discussions) approaches. The study results informed that community has quite high participation in the management and their welfare also tends to increase during this periodKeywords: coral reefs rehabilitation, community participation and roles, welfare

Abstract

The risk of volcanic disasters is increasing over time due to population growth and the increase of settlements around volcanoes. In addition, the centres of economic growth and infrastructure development around this area also further increase the vulnerability of the population living around of the volcano.  The choice to live around volcanoes should be followed by knowledge on hazard, hazard zone and the alert status of a volcano as part of the early warning system platform. However, in reality, the understanding of hazard-prone areas and hazard maps is still limited. This paper aims to examine the knowledge of people living around of Merapi on Hazard map (peta Kawasan Rawan Bencana – KRB) and the understanding of hazard-prone areas in Merapi related to mitigation efforts. In addition, to communicate risk by paying attention to the Living in harmony with environment approach are also examined, to provide a complete understanding of the knowledge of hazard map and early warning systems. Data collection was conducted in 2012 and 2014 by using qualitative approach (interviews, focus group discussions and observations) and using quantitative approach (survey of 600 respondents which distributed evenly in the KRB III-I and outside of KRB areas). The findings of the research at Merapi showed that 54 per cent of respondents know about disaster-prone areas. In addition, from respondents who knew about disaster-prone areas, only 49 per cent had seen maps of hazard map (KRB). Changes to the KRB map due to changes in the naming of zoning and 2010 eruption events are indicated to be a factor in the limitations of understanding disaster-prone areas. In addition, information dissemination and public perceptions of areas considered safe are also other factors discussed in this paper. Therefore a more effective risk communication strategy, which integrates spatial early warning (KRB map), Merapi alert status and traditional acceptance of early warning becomes a necessity for Merapi disaster mitigation.
