Abstract

Name is a designation or label given to objects, people, places, products and even ideas or concepts, which are usually used to distinguish one another. As social beings, humans are given a name as a differentiator between one another. However, in some people in Indonesia there is a custom to call the name of the Hajj as a tribute to people who have performed the pilgrimage. Habits like this of course will have an impact on the same nickname for people who already have the title of Hajj. Not a few for a community that has already had the pilgrimage called Hajj which of course confuses the person because several people are called by the same name. So what if one day everyone in Indonesia has a Hajj title. Will everyone in Indonesia be named Haji? This article discusses the future of the Indonesian name on the basis that it is part of the Indonesian people's habit of using informal, binding and declining names. This article is prepared based on adequate literature study. By using the meta-analysis method, the writer analyzes and interprets the existing data and supports each other.

Abstract

Research on translation, especially related to loss and gain of information in translation, in recent years has been carried out quite often. However, these studies are still focused on studying the structure (grammatical error). In this regard, this study aims to examine the loss and gain of information in translation which not only focuses on grammatical errors, but also discusses the loss and gain of information that occurs in the translation process in the source book entitled "Mandi Api" and its translation "Ordeal by Fire". The selected books were written by Balinese writers and translated into English by an American translator. In this regard, this study examines the phenomenon of gain of information and loss of information in translating text from SL to SL. This study analyzes the meaning of translation from SL into TL, thus, the results of this study are very useful for developing scientific knowledge in the field of linguistics, especially for building a framework of thought about phenomena that appear in translation. Furthermore, through this research, it is hoped that there will be an inventory of the phenomenon of loss and gain of information in translation. The data is in the form of written data. In order to ensure the success of this research, data collection methods in the form of observation and note taking methods were applied in this study. The data were analyzed referring to the views of Nida (1975) on the Principles of Translation.

Abstract

This research is entitled “Tajen and its terminology”. Tajen as part of Balinese culture has existed and lived in Balinese society since ancient times. Tajen is usually equated with cockfighting in Bali. The sustainability of tajen cannot be separated from the terms used in tajen by gamblers. These terms are used as a medium of communication by the players, so that tajen can run well. This study aims to understand about tajen and at the same time take an inventory of the terms it uses. Observation methods and interview methods were used in data collection, synchronous descriptive methods were used in data processing, and informal methods were used to present the results of the analysis. In this study it was found that tajen is a common cockfighting in Bali. The word tajen comes from the word taji which then gets the suffix -an so that it becomes tajian. Because of the process of merger, the word tajian becomes tajen. There are four forms of terms in tajen that were found, namely terms in the form of basic words, affixed words, repeated words, and compound words.
