Abstract

This study aims to see how the school management in developing the character of students in one of the boarding school in West Sumatera. This study uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Sources of data were taken to 38 informants consisting of 8 elements of the school namely the principal, teacher, boarding supervisor, security and cleaning service, canteen keeper, students and parents. All data obtained by in-depth interviews with all informants, the authors also took data through direct observation at the research site. Overall the results of the study show that there are seven character values instilled by the school, namely religious character, curiosity, discipline, confidence, responsibility, independence and honesty. The seven character values are instilled through twelve activities such as tahsin and tahfidzd Al-Quran, worship services, prayers in congregation, learning clinics, training and guidance, Arabic and English communication programs in the dormitory, motivation, joint sports, mutual cooperation and daily activities. Character building design as implemented by the school, it turns out that it is able to change the behavior of students in a more positive direction such as manners, discipline, obedience to worship, obedient to the rules, clean and tidy life, daring to appear, regular life, and honest behavior. This means that the school has succeeded in fostering the character education of students through various activities and all these activities are well planned by the cooperation of all elements of the school. The author considers the design to be emulated by other schools as a guide in fostering the character of students

Abstract

Islamic studies in public university are merely learnt by college students during one term, meanwhile, the Islamic studies is indeed expected to form the intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual intelligences. However, these intelligence’s types are not easy to be reached in a relatively short time since the deep study is required to be done to view the progress. In relation toward this research, the researcher only focuses to the discussion of the achievement aspect of social brilliance after finishing the Islamic studies. This research used the quantitative method by using survey as a rapprochement. The source of the data was taken through questionnaire that was filled in by four hundred students who had accomplished their studies in one of the public universities in Indonesia. The data were then analyzed descriptively by using SPSS 18.0 version. Overall, the research’s result depicted those Islamic studies during study has been able to form six of social intelligence and they are 1) increasing the attitude to help each other, 2) appreciating the other people’s view, 3) behaving well, 4) speaking politely, 5) being able to keep the relationship with new friends, and 6) respecting the older people. From this research, it can be concluded that although the students studied the Islamic studies concisely, otherwise the result showed that the students had righteous impression and it was capable to construct the student’s social intelligence, as it is known that the social intelligence is one of the key success to accomplish the study in university.

Abstract

One of the approaches used as an instrument of dakwah as well as islamization in Malay-Nusantara community is language approach. In general, islamization using language approach was carried out in two types, namely by adopting the Arabic words into Malay (lafzhi) and by maintaining the native words of Malay patterned with Hindu-Buddhist nuances but having meaningful Islamic values (maknawi). The objective of this research is to analyze islamization of Malay-Nusantara community through the language approach according to Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas. This research used qualitative method with an individual life history approach. All sorts of data were collected from the biographical books of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas, literature study, documentaries, and various written and physical works of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas. The process of data collection was done by collecting, reducing, presenting, and formulating conclusion.The results show that islamization by language approach, both lafzhi and maknawi, had a significant influence on islamic society of Malay-Nusantara, especially in Indonesia. It is proven by the establishment of formal Indonesia language that used Arabic and Malay words and patterns and adopted some of those words in the five principles of Pancasila.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the self acceptance of children raised by single mother, due to death divorce or marriage problems between the parents. The methods of this research is a qualitative with case study approach, data is collected by depth interview toward 15 children as the informants which chosen through purposive sampling technique. Those 15 informants live in Aceh, NTB, Bandung, Depok, Bogor, Jakarta, Bekasi, and Tanggerang. Overall view of research result shows that childrens self acceptance raised by single mother influenced by factors of maternal education and environment. In addition, self acceptance concept also influenced by passage of time associated with the trauma healing process and memories recollecting of their parents death or life divorce. Those factors above will also influence their future achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies and roles of Islamic boarding schools in achieving educational programs amidst the threat of the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. This research uses qualitative research with a case study research approach. The research was conducted at the Pesantren Border Aceh Tenggara as one of the pesantren assisted by the Aceh Province Islamic Boarding School Education Office. The results showed that the strategic management process carried out by the pesantren consisted of three interrelated processes, namely the formulation process, the implementation process (execution), and the strategic process (control). The last process is needed to provide input (feedback) for the next management process. The results of this study have implications for strategic management in pesantren management, namely: 1) the pesantren has managed to survive and strived to achieve the set academic program targets; 2) Islamic boarding schools as covid-19 prevention facilitators at the entrance to the provincial borders as a central place for health checks for immigrants who enter through the borders of Aceh province; 3) transformation of the learning system from traditional models to technology-based learning; and 4) the community is able to objectively assess educational institutions that are good in terms of management so as to allow a clear relationship between rewards and performance.

Abstract

This research aims to design and see the effectiveness of mobile applications Sahabat Qur'an as a means for parents to control their children through gadget. Sahabat Qur'an application is designed using the prototype method through several stages of determining the topic of the problem, designing the application as a solution to the problem, validating the application to experts and end with an application effective test to parents and children as the application user of the Sahabat Qur'an. There are several daily practice features that can be used by parents to control children's worship in the application of Sahabat Qur'an, among others are the reading of Quran, five times praying, recitation of dhikr, prayers and shalawat, and also available Islamic Kazanah articles. The fundamental difference is the one-door communication between parents and children, so that parents can control how the intensity of the child worships through the gadget. Interestingly the app can also detect the position of the child, so parents can control the child's whereabouts wherever they are. After a test of effectiveness and assessment of applications to several users overall stated that the application of Sahabat Qur’an is very useful and also effective as a means for parents to control daily worship of children through the communication of child gadgets. The application design of Sahabat Qur'an is a creative finding in digital technology that has been successfully designed and can even be used, but this application still needs to be developed again to be more effective and innovative.

Abstract

The Islamic world has many scientists who have brilliant concepts and thoughts in various disciplines. Their concepts and thoughts have contributed to the success of various scientific disciplines both for the Islamic and Western world development. In educational disciplines, the name of Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali or better known as Imam al-Gazhali among Muslims is a Muslim intellectual that greatly influences the thought style of Islamic thinkers from the past until now. Actually, it is impossible for the author to fully discussing al-Gazhali's views on Islamic education in this article, because of the wide range and scope of the discussion. So the article focuses on how al-Gazhali's concepts and views are related to the goals of education, curriculum, methodology, professional teachers, students and the relevance of the concepts offered by al-Gazhali with the development of education today. As writing and discussing material for this article, the author draws from sources taken from the original book by Imam al-Gazhali, further strengthened by the writings of Islamic thinkers, and supported by the results of previous research published in various national and international journals. In general, al-Ghazali's most important thinking in education is religious science with all its branches because it can be mastered through perfect reason and clear capture power. While al-Gazhali's opinion regarding the ultimate goal of education is to achieve human perfection that leads to self-approach to Allah SWT.

Abstract

The Child Special Detention Center is a place for fostering imprisonment-sentenced children. Children in prison have the right to receive guidance, coaching, supervision, assistance, education and training, and other rights under the provisions of laws and regulations. This study aims to describe how the model of moral development in the Special Detention Center for Children. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design approach, including data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data sources were taken from several informants through an in-depth interview process and selected using the purposive sampling technique. The informants were employees and three children at the Child Special Detention Center who were previously involved in the moral education process and activities. The model of moral development for children in the Child Special Detention Center is as follows: i) providing motivation, guiding, and assisting children in practicing their worship. ii) providing a religious understanding through recitations. iii) providing formal and non-formal education, iv) providing lifeskills training. v) provisioning facilities and infrastructure for children's morals development. This research suggests the vital involvement of experts in moral development education at the Child Special Detention Center for Children. Also, this research is fundamental for initial reference to examine moral issues.

Abstract

The goal of national education is to develop the students’ potential to become virtuous, courteous, healthy, knowledgeable, skillful, creative, independent, democratic and responsible human beings, and be devoted to Allah S.W.T. In its implementation, Islamic Study subject has an important and strategic role in realizing the goals of national education. Generally, the teaching and learning process of this subject in university level is much better compared to the previous one, in either lecturer’s competence, curriculum or management system. Nevertheless, the fact also shows that most students take this subject only to complete the requirement of their study, not as a scientific need. This course has been designed to build the students’ charcaters and personality so that they could become knowledgeable and devoted to Allah SWT. Therefore, strategic steps based on more open and advanced paradigm and thought are needed. This article is intended to discuss strategic steps required in managing and conducting the teaching and learning process of Islamic Study in universities to achieve the specified goals maximally. The discussion is supported by related literature, expert opinions, and results of previous research relevant to the current study in term of context and issue

Abstract

This research was aimed to design mobile application based on gamification method as an effort to increase Muslims reading interest. This application is designed using a prototype method through several stages, namely determining the problem topic, designing the application as a solution to the problem, validating the application to the expert and ending with a test of the effectiveness of the application that has been designed. There are several features provided in the app's design including points, rewards, levels, badges, daily challenges, quests and leaderboards. All of the features available above are designed so that readers have direct communication with the app so that it becomes more interesting, it can even increase reading interest for users of this application. After an assessment of several users, overall stated that the gamification method with mobile app is very effective, interesting and also useful as a means of improving the reading and literacy of Muslims. The design of this application is a finding of digital technology creativity that has been successfully designed and can even be used, but this application still needs to be developed again so that it is more effective and innovative.
