Abstract

fforts continue to label each school in the Philippines as a zone of peace. However, instability in regions with ongoing conflicts keeps schools, teachers, students, and staff at risk. The vulnerability in these areas remains a persistent challenge. The National Policy Framework on the Learners and Schools as Zones of Peace (LSZOP) acknowledges this vulnerability, aiming to address the immediate impact of armed conflicts on learners and schools, thereby fostering the establishment of a resilient society. Thus, this study was created to delineate the implementation of the national policy framework on LSZOP and explain its correlation with educational outcomes in Private and Public Secondary Schools in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed method design, the study enlisted 84 school stakeholders as respondents. A researcher-made questionnaire and semi-structured interview guide were facilitated through stratified random sampling. Quantitative analysis reveals the significant influence of the LSZOP implementation on secondary school development, particularly concerning education for peace, peace for education, and crisis management. Meanwhile, qualitative insights reveal schools' commitment to fairness irrespective of students' tribe, religion, or ethnicity, emphasized by crafted rules promoting cultural sensitivity, fairness, and children's rights. Notably, schools prioritize values formation and respect for individual differences, fostering peace and order within their premises. Nevertheless, findings indicate no significant relationship between the national policy framework implementation and governance as an educational outcome among secondary schools in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. The study advocates for reinforcing LSZOP implementation to realize its envisioned objectives.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the response of sugarcane setts to the different level of concentrations bio-stimulant solutions (BSS) that can accelerate the rooting and tillering. The study was conducted at UNO-R School of Agriculture, Philippines from October 15, 2023 -January 15, 2024. Phil 99-1793 variety is used. It was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments, replicated 4 times. The treatments were; no BSS (control), 200ml, 300ml, and 400ml BSS. Cane setts were prepared a day before planting. Leaf sheaths were remove and viable eye buds was selected. Setts were soaked in water for 24 hours and air-dried for 30 minutes before planting. The BSS were diluted in water before application. It was applied at plant base 15, 45, and 75 days after planting (DAP). Statistical analysis revealed highly significant on root weight and length with 110grams and 100.33cm for 400ml BSS, respectively. Great significant result also was observe for the tiller height at 30DAP and 60DAP with 26.10cm and 43.08cm respectively for 400ml BSS treatment. On tiller weight at 90DAP, number of tillers at 30DAP and number nodes at 90DAP statistics indicates a significant result with 752grams, 1.75tillers and 8.10nodes for 400ml BSS treatment. Application of 400ml BSS shorten the germination to only 5.30days while control treatment germinated at 8.03days. Application of 400ml BSS also increases the biomass with 4,310,00kg/hectare higher than the control with 2,242.50 kg/hectare. The study recommends the application of 400ml of BSS to accelerate the rooting and tillering of sugarcane setts up to 90DAP.

Abstract

Lean methodologies have enabled numerous businesses to enhance their processes, reduce inventory levels, and improve ergonomics. Additionally, lean has allowed organizations to adapt their technologies and keep pace with necessary advancements. However, despite the numerous benefits it offers and the implementation of lean thinking and procurement in the oil and gas industry, companies have frequently encountered challenges related to the timely delivery of materials and services. This research aimed to understand how the oil and gas industry implements lean procurement practices, investigate the relationship between lean procurement and supply chain performance, and identify the challenges faced by the industry in implementing lean procurement. The study employed a case study approach, focusing on the oil and gas industry's command centre as the target population. Through stratified random sampling, a sample of 37 leaders from the oil and gas industry was selected, representing 20% of the target population. Secondary data sources included the industry's annual reports and financial summaries, while primary data was collected through questionnaires. The quantitative data gathered for this research was analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20, employing both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Descriptive statistics components included percentages, standard deviation, frequency, and mean. Data presentation was facilitated through tables, charts, and diagrams. A narrative framework was utilized to present the results of the content analysis conducted on the qualitative data. Additionally, regression analysis was employed to further understand the relationship between lean procurement and supply chain performance. The study results demonstrated the existence of a positive and significant correlation between lean procurement and supply chain performance. Furthermore, the study indicated that the oil and gas industry utilized lean procurement strategies such as electronic procurement, 5S, comprehensive quality management, continuous improvement, supplier-firm collaboration, the pull system, and employee involvement and empowerment. The study's findings suggest that the oil and gas industry should foster relationships with service providers staffed by knowledgeable personnel capable of efficiently implementing lean procurement practices. By doing so, the industry can effectively address the challenges associated with timely material delivery and optimize its supply chain performance.

Abstract

Every country is impacted by criminality on an economic, social, and political level. The national news in the Philippines typically reports on crimes against persons and property because of the prevailing belief that the country's economic standing is insufficient to support an individual's level of living. The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Olongapo City has not yet succeeded in implementing crime prevention and control, despite their best efforts to prevent crime. The Philippines uses foreign approaches to crime prevention that don't align with the nation's current criminality issues. The PNP organization is facing difficulty in crime prevention due to its inability to demonstrate its efficacy and efficiency in the performance of its duty. The primary aspect that leads to the prevention of crime is following the path of morality, virtue, and ethics by all the individuals. These morals and values would enable a person to focus on the achievement of his life and career goals and abstain from conducting any kind of criminal and violent acts.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the level of confidence among criminology practitioners in their research knowledge and attitudes towards research. By examining both aspects, the study seeks to understand how these factors influence overall confidence in engaging with and applying research findings. Furthermore, this descriptive study explores whether there is a significant difference between practitioners' confidence levels related to their research knowledge and their attitudes towards research. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for enhancing the integration of research into criminology practice, thereby improving the effectiveness of interventions and policies. The study utilized a descriptive design having 128 qualified respondents using purposive sampling that answered the self-made questionnaire. Result shows that among the practitioner, academicians have higher level of confidence in terms of research knowledge and attitude. There is a significant difference between the level of confidence relative to research knowledge and attitude. Likewise, the research knowledge of the criminology practitioners has positive relationship among the scope of practice. Hence, the findings suggest that in order to improve the research culture within the field of criminology, a professional development plan might be created to address and cater to all criminology practitioners within the discipline, with guidelines based on the scope of practice under RA 11131.

Abstract

The researchers analyzed the factors influencing Filipino millennials' intention to purchase green skincare products based on data from 454 respondents (n=454) residing or working in the National Capital Region. The Theory of Planned Behavior mainly guides the analysis to elucidate positive and significant correlation among Past Experience, Electronic Word-of-Mouth, and Emotional Intelligence on the determinants of intention to purchase green skincare products: Attitude, Subjective Norm, and Self-Efficacy. The results show that Past Experience and Emotional Intelligence have a moderate impact, whereas Electronic Word-of-Mouth has a lesser effect on the key determinants of purchase intention. The current study proposes increased information sharing through marketing campaign strategies such as brand partnerships, the creation of social care groups, fear appeal marketing (FAM), social listening, customer surveys, sales promotions, and verbal persuasion. Future research on the subject may consider various demographics, such as Generation X and Z, and the male market. Finally, to extend the study on green skincare products considering the relationship between antecedent variables.

Abstract

In the twenty-first century, the use of technology in the teaching process has become increasingly crucial. A rising trend in language assessment comes in the form of vlogs. Its proliferation in language assessment can serve many advantages and benefits. However, a misguided assessment strategy can undermine the teaching-learning process. Also, learners often feel that vlogging assessments need to be revised because the focus is on the vlogging skills and media quality. Hence, the study aimed to identify the practices and perspectives of language teachers, academic heads, and language learners in using vlogs as a speaking performance assessment. A qualitative design was employed to collect a rich and detailed understanding of the focus of the study. The informants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through essay questionnaires, focus-group discussions, and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that using vlogs in language assessment offers a versatile and practical approach for formative and summative purposes. Administering vlogging tasks requires weighing the advantages and challenges associated with each approach. Vlog types, such as personal vlogs, opinion vlogs, and interview vlogs, are ideal for enhancing learners' speaking skills. Furthermore, the pedagogical considerations of language teachers in utilizing vlogs include alignment, sufficient time and support, access to necessary technological resources, learner flexibility, support to struggling learners, clear and comprehensible instructions, and equity for all learners. There is a consensus on the significance of content, creativity, presentation, proficiency, fluency, and technical quality as criteria in vlog assessment.

Abstract

The study explored (1) the most common speaking and vocabulary problems of 12 senior high students; (2) the implementation of 3 ESL teachers of dialogic discussion to address the identified students’ problems; (3) the improvement of students; and (4) the insights and implications of the intervention. Using a qualitative mosaic approach, the study used field notes and conversations with students and teachers. During preliminary data collection, it was found that the students’ speaking and vocabulary problems comprised fluency and accuracy issues, language function deficiencies, negative affective state, and poor classroom atmosphere. To address these problems, the three teachers implemented five dialogic discussion sessions. The implementation characterizes structure, scaffolding, and socialization. For students, the sessions helped them increase their confidence and speaking skills. These findings suggest that dialogic discussion may function as a platform engendering processes such as agency, exploration, and enhancement. The study recommends actions for teachers and future researchers.

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of Technology-enhanced Lessons in Optics (TELO) on the academic performance of grade 10 students. A researcher-made Physics Achievement Test was used to measure student performance, and mean scores were utilized to describe the student’s performance in both pretests and post-tests. The study employed statistical tests, including the t-test of difference between dependent samples and the t-test of difference between means of two independent samples, to analyze the data. During the 2nd Quarter of the School Year 2022-2023, the Technology-enhanced Lessons in Optics (TELO) intervention was implemented for twenty meetings with grade 10 Science, Technology, and Engineering students. The control and experimental groups, consisting of two heterogeneous students, were randomly assigned. Pretest and post-test scores showed a significant improvement in both groups, indicating the acquisition of knowledge and skills. However, the experimental group achieved significantly higher scores in the post-test. TELO's interactive features and ICT-based instruction facilitated active learning and enhanced student performance. The study provides evidence for the effectiveness of TELO in improving the academic performance of grade 10 students, highlighting the value of interactive and ICT-based approaches grounded in constructivist principles and the SAMR model in enhancing Physics learning outcomes.

Abstract

The study employed a mixed-method developmental approach to design a learning hub imbued with microlearning to address the least learned competencies in English 7. The least learned competencies were identified by considering existing test results in the locale of the researcher, which were supported by the findings of existing studies in the literature through a systematic review. The researcher assumed the roles of content creator and curator and identified relevant microlearning materials available for access. Experts validated the quality of the identified learning content through an adopted questionnaire. Afterwards, the researcher designed the Grammar Express. ICT experts were asked to validate the platform using an adapted rubric to determine whether it is suitable as a learning website. An adapted questionnaire was used to measure the level of acceptance of Grammar Express by language teachers. Meanwhile, an adapted questionnaire was used to evaluate the level of usability of the platform as perceived by the students. Based on the findings, the respondents believe that Grammar Express is useful since it offers tangible benefits and can enhance instruction. Similarly, in terms of perceived ease of use, Grammar Express requires less effort to learn and utilize. In addition, there is a strong positive attitude to incorporate Grammar Express in language teaching. Furthermore, there is a strong intention to use Grammar Express, which indicates a high level of acceptance and enthusiasm for the platform. In terms of usability, there is a strong inclination toward frequent use and displayed confidence in navigating the platform independently.
