Abstract

Student absenteeism was a persistent issue in education, affecting academic performance and future opportunities. This study explored the factors that influenced absenteeism among senior high school learners in one of the Public Secondary High Schools in Cluster 1 Division of Pampanga, Philippines. Using a sequential-explanatory research design, the study first collected quantitative data through surveys and then conducted qualitative interviews with selected respondents. Findings revealed that absenteeism was influenced by financial constraints, health issues, family problems, lack of sleep, overloaded academic activities, and unfavorable school environments. The study highlighted that student facing financial difficulties often missed school due to lack of transportation funds and daily allowances. Similarly, frequent illness and family-related responsibilities contributed to absences. Additionally, academic pressures, strict teachers, and peer conflicts negatively impacted students' motivation to attend school. The study emphasized the need for targeted interventions, such as financial aid programs, mental health support, and policy adjustments in school administration, to minimize absenteeism. Addressing these concerns could enhance student engagement, academic performance, and overall well-being

Abstract

The purpose of this research project was to learn about the experience that final year students of Keningau Vocational College Statistical had in a physical workshop on statistical methods as well as their need to learn more about statistics and the software used to process them in helping them with their quantitative data analysis in their final year project development. Past final year projects only presented raw data which the students used to draw conclusions from without using any detailed statistical methods to identify trends and patterns. Therefore, their findings remained superficial, generic and less meaningful which made it harder for their findings to be deemed as valid, reliable and convincing. Hence, a statistical test and procedure workshop which featured live demonstration of a predetermined set of data was con-ducted on all final year students at the college. The software used was Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS). The live demonstration was followed by the students’ attempt in emulate the procedure shown to them in order to help them understand it better. They were required to purchase and install the software prior to the workshop. The findings revealed that the students felt that their understanding of the topic im-proved significant after the workshop and they deemed the software to be useful in their data analysis but found it challenging to use. The stu-dents’ responses also implied that the students felt the hands-on and interactive instruction with guided practice could help them become more adept at using the software and gain better understanding of the topic. The findings signified the need to explore several instruction and learning methods as well as materials that may significantly improve the delivery approach. The findings also revealed a compelling need to fully integrate statistical tests and procedures into the vocational col-lege curriculum.

Abstract

The publishing industry is rapidly evolving, driven by digital advance-ments and shifting consumer demands. Marketing professionals are crucial in navigating these changes, employing innovative strategies to achieve the organization’s objectives. This phenomenology study ex-plores marketing professionals’ lived experiences and understanding of the meaning of their experiences in the publishing industry. Six (6) marketing professionals participated in the interview and were se-lected based on the set inclusions by the researchers. A structured in-terview guide was employed to unearth the participants' lived experi-ences and understand the essence of their responses, and Colaizzi’s method was used to generate the study’s themes. Subsequently, the study generated four key themes: (1) challenges encountered by a mar-keting professional, (2) marketing strategies utilized by a marketing pro-fessional, (3) motivational factors as fuel to a marketing professional, and (4) observed trends in the publishing industry. The overall results suggest that marketing professionals in the publishing sector are tasked with finding a balance between innovative creativity and adaptability to ongoing changes. They must adeptly leverage new trends and execute successful strategies while managing the challeng-es of a highly competitive and rapidly changing environment. To achieve success, these professionals should be resourceful and vision-ary, consistently enhancing their methods to address the needs of a dynamic market.

Abstract

In the Philippine market, the tiangge sector continues to manifest strong growth despite setting lower prices for their products. This qualitative phenomenological research examined the selling skills of 12 tiangge vendors in Guagua, Pampanga, exploring their lived experiences and business strategies. Employing a semi-structured, open-ended interview guide and thematic analysis, the study gathered in-depth insights into the vendors' experiences and selling practices. The findings indicated that these vendors mostly exhibited skills in bargaining, relationship-building, communication, integrity, problem-solving, referrals, adaptability, and positive thinking. However, these selling skills were often challenged by factors such as low income, rental expenses, weather conditions, the threat of e-commerce, unpleasant customers, and work-related burnout. The vendors’ resilience in hurdling these challenges was attributed to coping strategies including spiritual and family motivations, opportunity recognition, the suki (loyal customer) system with price flexibility, and product diversification aligned with market trends.

Abstract

IT is public knowledge that the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30th January 2020 and a pandemic on 11th March of the same year. Its origination was traced to Wuhan in China. Till date, it has spread to around 222 countries in the world, including India. One of the major causes of the snowballing increase in COVID-19 cases has been the scarcity of knowledge on the behavior of the new virus and the awareness regarding the basic preventive practices to be adopted by people during the preliminary days of the spread of the infection. The very 1st case in India was logged on 15th February 2020, and since then, the caseload of infected persons has snowballed to over 2.67cr only in India and 159.8 million cases worldwide, as recorded by the Worldometer. The spreading rate of COVID-19 version 2.0 has been phenomenal as compared to the version1.0. Countrywide complete and or partial lockdowns, followed by immediate isolation of infected persons, were the measures initiated by the authorities in order to contain the spread of the disease. The aim of the study is to suggest means to reduce the active cases and control the transmission risk and mortality rates. The research thus helps to calculate and predict the threshold value of the disease. In addition, the Environmental Impact Assessment Tool (EIAT) was used to perform the sensitivity analysis to determine the robustness of the assessment by examining the extent of the evolution and impacts of the pandemic in the country. The constructed control model introduced five control variables as the backbone of the adopted control strategies. The simulated results and analysis carried there upon give strong indication that quarantine and provision of timely and appropriate medical attention to the infected individuals will help reduce the number of critically infected cases to a considerably low level, which will further arrest transmission rate, mortality and active ceases in India.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of MATHematikula, a cinematic mathematics video, in enhancing numeracy skills among senior high school students, particularly in the least-learned competency of Statistics and Probability. Utilizing an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, 50 participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group, which received instruction supplemented with the cinematic video, or a control group taught using the traditional approach. A paired samples t-test revealed significant posttest score improvements in both groups, while analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) confirmed that the experimental group outperformed the control group, demonstrating the intervention’s effectiveness. Qualitative findings from interviews with 10 participants further highlighted their experiences with MATHematikula, including its ability to simplify learning, make lessons more engaging, and the technical challenges encountered. To cope with these challenges, students employed peer collaboration, resourcefulness, and self-motivation. Additionally, insights revealed that students actively engaged with the platform’s interactive features, utilized it as a learning tool, and expressed enthusiasm for promoting it to their peers. These findings reveal the potential of cinematic mathematics videos as an innovative pedagogical tool for improving student learning outcomes in mathematics.

Abstract

This mixed-method research aimed to evaluate the teaching dynamics, public speaking anxiety, and language proficiency of student interns in Capiz during the Academic Year 2023-2024. A sample of 300 student interns, drawn from a total population of 1,137 across various teacher education programs, participated in the study. Additionally, nine teacher mentors, an internship supervisor, and nine student interns from Higher Education Institutions in Capiz were involved in the quali-tative component. Data collection employed a researcher-constructed questionnaire and focus group discussion guide, addressing variables such as teaching dynamics, public speaking anxiety, and language pro-ficiency. Statistical tools used included mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient, with an alpha level set at .05. The findings revealed that student interns demonstrated a "very high" level of teaching dynamics, excelling in classroom authority, communication, interaction, and expertise while showing a "high" lev-el of assessment knowledge. Significantly, public speaking anxiety was “moderate” across behavioral and emotional components. The interns exhibited "very high" language proficiency, particularly in writing, with "high" vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension levels. There were no significant differences in public speaking anxiety across teaching dynamics or language proficiency levels. However, a signifi-cant relationship was found between teaching dynamics and both pub-lic speaking anxiety and language proficiency. No significant relation-ship was found between language proficiency and public speaking anx-iety. These findings suggest that while student interns' teaching dy-namics and language proficiency are strong, addressing public speak-ing anxiety remains essential to further enhance their overall teaching effectiveness.

Abstract

This multiphase mixed methods design research was conducted to develop a Remediating Strategic Intervention Material (RSIM) for Statistics and Probability for Grade 10 students. Research findings revealed that problem solving as the most essential skill in any area of learning is not given too much attention and importance as shown by the least learned competencies in Statistics and Probability of the majority of Aklanon students. In fact, 4 out of 4 or 100% of their least learned competencies involve problem solving activities. These competencies are: (1) Solves problems involving permutations and combination, (2) Solves problems involving probability, (3) Calculates specified measure of position (e.g., 90th percentile) of a set of data and (4) Finds the probability of (A U B). Hence, the researcher developed a Remediating Strategic Intervention Material (RSIM) in response to these competencies with the integration of different learning activities in line with the suggested teaching strategies of the teachers. The developed material was then evaluated by the students and teachers using the Pilot Testing Tool and Learning Resource (LR) Quality Assurance Tools. After the evaluation, the material was found acceptable in terms of its content, language and layout and format. Moreover, students and teachers expressed their satisfaction with the material highlighting its suitability, simplicity, relatability and comprehensiveness These results underscore the potential of targeted intervention materials in strengthening problem solving competencies, a challenge common in mathematics education worldwide. This study offers valuable insights to curriculum developers and educators to bridge foundational skills through localized and innovative intervention materials.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of coping strategies on the perceived stress and life satisfaction of Guidance Practitioners in Private Secondary Schools in the Province of Cavite. The study utilized descriptive-correlational design. The participants in this study were fifty three (53) guidance practitioners from private secondary schools in the province of Cavite that were determined through the use of purposive sampling technique. Majority of the participants were affiliated in non-sectarian private secondary schools. Most of them were guidance advocates and guidance associates. There were only few registered guidance counselors participated in the study. In addition, majority of them were 4-6 years in service as guidance practitioners. An online survey was conducted through google forms to the participants to measure the three main variables of the study: Perceived Stress Scale by Sheldon Cohen, Brief-COPE by Charles Carver, and Satisfaction with Life Scale by Ed Diener. The findings revealed that most of the participants have a moderate level of perceived stress. The participants were also obtained a high level of coping strategies. And, most of them are satisfied with their lives at present. The results also showed that there was moderate small negative relationship between perceived stress and life satisfaction level of the participants. However, there was no significant relationship between the perceived stress and coping strategies in terms of problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping except to the avoidant coping that was significantly related to the perceived stress. Overall, the perceived stress and coping strategies were not significantly related. Also, the coping strategies and life satisfaction were not significantly related. Furthermore, the findings revealed that coping strategies did not serve as mediator on the relationship of perceived stress and life satisfaction. However, the perceived stress is negatively significant predictor of life satisfaction. With all of this, the study recommends that the Department of Education, Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association and future researchers utilize the findings of this study as a guide and to further enhance this study for the benefit of the guidance practitioners.
