Abstract

Capital structure management is a set of decisions related to the financing sources utilized in the entity's operation and development. Financing is a significant obstacle for smallholder farmers in accessing additional inputs required to boost agricultural yields and income. This study identified and measured the capital structure management of rice farmers, focusing on internal and external funding. This study is anchored to SDG 1, 2, 8, 12, 15 and 17. The quantitative-descriptive research design was used in this study and employed the convenience sampling method, wherein questionnaires were used to investigate the capital structure management of rice farmers in selected Barangays in Asingan, Pangasinan, Philippines specifically Barangay Bantog, Cabalitian, and Domanpot. The results indicated that most rice farmers are late middle-aged, married males who are classified as smallholder farmers, and have an average number of dependent family members. They sometimes practice capital structure management, which shows inconsistency in its implementation. The findings further revealed that rice farmers are risk-averse yet have stable financial conditions. Based on the data, this study recommended conducting a seminar about enhancing the capital structure management of rice farmers that highlights the significance of optimizing the rice farmers’ financial resources.

Abstract

Effective science instruction requires more than just dispensing information and conceptual knowledge; science teachers also need to have in-depth knowledge, understanding, and abilities to give their students appropriate and pertinent scientific tasks. Despite the fact that teachers exhibit proficiency in laboratory instruction, more research is required to determine how this proficiency directly impacts student learning outcomes in lab environments. Hence, a descriptive-correlational research approach was conducted to determine the relationship between the profile of science teachers and their knowledge and skill competence in science laboratory instruction. Results revealed that gender (sex) has a negative correlation with both knowledge and skill competency. This indicates that male and female teachers may have different competency levels. Moreover, higher degrees and teachers’ field of specialization contribute positively to both knowledge and skill competency in science laboratory instruction. However, teaching position and length of teaching have weak indicating that experience alone may not strongly influence knowledge and skill competence in science laboratory.

Abstract

This study examined the status of laboratory resources in public sec-ondary schools in Ilocos Norte and evaluated science teachers’ labora-tory competence. Using a descriptive survey design, the study involved 198 science teachers, selected through total enumeration method. Conducted in October 2024 at all public secondary schools in the Schools Division of Ilocos Norte, data were collected using a survey questionnaire instrument and analyzed using frequency count, per-centages, and mean for the availability and accessibility of laboratory equipment and facilities and the level of laboratory competence of teachers. Key areas investigated included the accessibility of laborato-ry facilities and equipment, the presence of laboratory technicians, and teachers’ proficiency in laboratory knowledge and instructional skills. Results revealed significant gaps in providing advanced laboratory apparatus, although basic equipment was relatively accessible. Science teachers demonstrated average competence, but challenges such as insufficient resources, inadequate training, and poor facility mainte-nance impeded optimal instruction. Notable constraints included in-frastructure issues, unequal resource distribution, and limited profes-sional development opportunities. The findings highlight the need for equitable resource allocation and enhanced competencies to improve the quality of science instruction. Recommendations include regular professional development, improved resource accessibility, and insti-tutional support to foster innovative teaching practices.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Arithmetic Counting Techniques through manipulatives on the numeracy skills of Grade 1 pupils in adding and subtracting numbers. The study employed a quasi-experimental design, specifically one- group pretest and posttest involving 30 Grade one pupils of Lias Elementary School for the School Year 2023- 2024 who did not meet the prescribed 60% minimum proficiency level (MPL) during the conduct of the Regional Diagnostic Assessment (RDA) as per Regional Memorandum No. 502, s. 2022. The pupil-respondents were exposed to a variety of manipulatives such as shoot the goal, whack-a-mole, spin the numeracy wheel, light up the Math path, lead the trail, and push the abacus that offered a hands-on approach to learning. Results showed that the use of Arithmetic Counting Techniques through manipulatives has a significant effect on pupils’ numeracy skills, specifically in adding and subtracting numbers, as manifested in the associated p-value of .000, which is less than the .05 level of significance and in the increase of pretest and posttest mean scores of 7.77 and 18.80, respectively. Furthermore, the computed effect size (r) is -0.875 based on the z value, which implies that the material has a large effect on the numeracy skills of Grade 1 learners. Utilizing Arithmetic Counting Techniques through manipulatives is highly recommended to provide pupils with concrete, meaningful, and hands-on learning opportunities that can positively strengthen their numeracy skills and present lessons in a more engaging, innovative, and dynamic means.

Abstract

This study presents the marketability of the CBMA students at the LSPU Siniloan campus as they navigate workplace challenges to assess their skills and competencies before graduation and employment by the company or institutions, which is crucial for employment. A research study involved a total of 137 respondents who participated in a survey across three academic programs: BS Accountancy with 48 respondents, BSBA in Financial Management/Marketing Management with 50 respondents, and BS Office Administration with 39 respondents. This study shows that students' interpersonal and personal traits they need to succeed in the profession will depend on their Hard Skills and Soft Skills, respectively. This study used purposive sampling method in selecting participants likely to provide most useful or relevant information for the research question. The majority of students read their courses or materials with comprehension, according to the results. Self-management follows next, in which students can effectively manage their feelings, ideas, and actions in a range of contexts. This research findings shows implications to Curriculum Development which suggests that while core competencies are generally well-developed, discipline-specific strengths can be further leveraged. There are also implications for Career Services on students’ strengths in learning and foundational skills. While on Career services should offer targeted workshops and career mapping sessions that align individual strengths with market demands. Implications for Internship programs should be designed to reinforce classroom learning and bridge skill gaps.

Abstract

This study explored teaching strategies employed by secondary teachers in the Division of La Carlota City for literature instruction. Utilizing Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with seven English teachers from various schools and document analysis, the research examined engagement, exploration, and exit themes related to teaching practices. During the engagement phase, it was found that the nature of literature teaching has evolved significantly over the past 5–10 years, emphasizing the use of interactive multimedia, online platforms, and diverse text analysis approaches. Challenges such as electronic distractions and students' struggles with comprehension were highlighted. In the exploration phase, teachers expressed the fulfillment of teaching literature, fostering cultural appreciation, and collaboration among peers. Challenges were addressed through simulated reading programs, engagement with complex texts, contextualization, and transitioning from global to academic literature. Effective strategies included the use of appropriate resources, pre-selection questioning, integration of contemporary literary works, and multimedia tools. Teachers also emphasized fostering appreciation for literature, deepening understanding of literary elements, and providing time for guided exploration of complex texts. In the exit phase, critical thinking, inclusivity, comprehensive assessment strategies, and professional collaboration emerged as essential skills and practices. The study recommends implementing interactive teaching methods, integrating technology, and performance-based assessments to enhance engagement and participation in literature instruction.
