Abstract

Global changes have changed our educational system from a pandemic to a new normal. Teachers have adopted new learning delivery to cope with the demands of this era. This change has shifted classroom set-up into online classes, requiring teachers to digitize the education process. With this, different issues of coping mechanisms were explored to make learning possible. This study aimed to explore (1) the perceptions of participants in digitizing math teaching, (2) challenges met in digitalization, and (3) the coping mechanisms to address the issues encountered. It made use of the Narrative research design and employed purposive sampling in choosing its participants. Three semi-structured open ended questionnaire were used in gathering data. Results showed that participants viewed teaching math online as difficult and at the same time engaging. The difficulties faced were seen in students' focus on the discussion, lack of gadgets, computation skills, and digital competency. Various coping mechanism were suggested to cope with the difficulties like; utilizing online application, providing helpful activities and having positive attitudes towards the issue. In conclusion, it is found that teaching math online is difficult as compared to face-to-face classes, hence it is recommended that training on the digital competency and technology must be prioritized to further cope up when teaching math online.

Abstract

This study utilized a descriptive research design to explore learners' experiences and challenges in blended learning at Osias Colleges Incorporated. It involved 248 students selected via convenience sampling and uses a researcher-developed questionnaire, validated by experts and pilot-tested with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.90, serves as the primary data collection tool. The study assessed learners' profiles and their blended learning experiences across engagement, flexibility, instruction quality, technical support, and collaboration. It also identified challenges and opportunities for improvement to enhance the program's effectiveness, using frequency, percentages, and mean for data analysis. Most respondents in the study are first-year college students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Overall, learners at Osias Colleges Incorporated report a positive experience with the blended learning modality. However, respondents identified significant challenges, including technical issues like software glitches and connectivity problems, as well as the need for personalized support. Opportunities for improvement are centered around five key components of blended learning: students' engagement, flexibility, quality of instruction, technical support and accessibility, and collaboration, all of which are intertwined with the challenges faced by learners. To enhance the blended learning at Osias Colleges Incorporated, several strategies can be implemented. Incorporating interactive multimedia resources like videos, quizzes, and simulations can boost learner engagement. Implementing an accessible technical support system will address software and connectivity issues promptly. Finally, regularly assessing and refining the five key components of blended learning—engagement, flexibility, instruction quality, technical support, and collaboration—will ensure a more effective learning environment by addressing challenges proactively.

Abstract

The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design. Using the convenience sampling technique, the study obtained a total of 61 respondents from both MAEd and MBA graduates. Through the adoption of the questionnaire developed by Koopman (2014) entitled” Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ) the study gathered necessary data. The study discovered that most of the respondents are Master of Arts in Education degree holders and currently occupying a position of Teacher III. Additionally, Graduates of MAEd and MBA obtained good performance in the Comprehensive Examination. Moreover, work performance of the Graduates in terms of contextual performance, adaptive performance and counterproductivity work behavior is excellent while very good in task performance. Lastly, the study revealed that there is no significant relationship between the comprehensive examination performance and work performance of the respondents. The study suggests to encourage ongoing education and professional development opportunities for Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) graduates, establish a peer tutoring or study group initiative within the MAEd and MBA programs, launch a recognition and rewards program within the organization, and undergo Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain competence in their professional practice.

Abstract

This tracer study examines the outcomes of the MAEd and MBA graduate programs at Osias Colleges, Inc. (OCI). Building upon a descriptive design and data from 143 alumni gathered via a validated survey, results reveal high satisfaction and engagement, particularly in teaching, research, and extension services. Although the comprehensive exam is a pivotal assessment of the students understanding and the overall outcome of their teaching and learning, a number of studies find little relationship between the exam score and the professional outcomes, such as subsequent work performance of graduate students. Recommendations include enhanced administrative support and continuous alumni engagement to strengthen program quality as well as provide a number of more relevant professional development programs and recognition programs to further strengthen program efficacy.

Abstract

This study conducted an assessment of the well-being of members of the Philippine National Police - City Intelligence Unit of the Cebu City Police Office for the period 2016 to 2021. A quantitative descriptive design was employed, utilizing the Ryff Scale 42 Items, Locus of Control, and General Self-Efficacy Scale to gather data. The majority of personnel were male with a baccalaureate degree, and variations were noted in the number of personnel assigned to each police station. The personnel exhibited relatively high scores on all autonomy sub-scales, while the majority demonstrated either low or moderate levels of self-efficacy. Using the Spearman's correlations, Well-being, locus of control, and self-efficacy were found to be statistically significant at the 0.05 level.". This suggests that there is evidence of a linear relationship between these variables in the data. Based on the findings, a comprehensive psychological debriefing program (CPDP) was recommended to improve the well-being of the personnel. The proposed CPDP was tailored to address the unique needs of each group based on their demographic characteristics and psychosocial profiles. The CPDP aimed to enhance autonomy, personal growth, environmental mastery, positive relations with others, purpose in life, and self-acceptance, as well as to foster a culture of psychological health and wellness within the Philippine National Police Intelligence Unit. The proposed action plan offers valuable insights into the unique needs and challenges of PNP Intelligence Unit Personnel, ultimately leading to a more effective and efficient program.

Abstract

Fanfiction has emerged as a significant digital reading and storytelling platform, particularly Alternate Universe (AU) fanfiction on X. This study examined the relationship between AU fanfiction engagement, self-concept, and well-being among Filipino Gen Z readers. Using a quantitative-correlational design, data were collected from 150 participants aged 18-27 (M =Enga 21.3, SD = 2.4) through an online survey. Respondents were selected using purposive non-probability sampling to identify active fanfiction community members. Standardized instruments included the Reading Flow Short Scale, Tennessee Self-Concept Scale, and BBC Well-Being Scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to analyze the data. Findings revealed high engagement with AU fanfiction, particularly in time spent and emotional immersion (Mdn = 5.5, IQR = 1.2). Self-concept scores were strongest in moral (Mdn = 4.25, IQR = 0.75) and social dimensions (Mdn = 4.0, IQR = 0.83), while personal self-concept, including self-satisfaction and confidence, were comparatively lower (Mdn = 3.2, IQR = 1.1). Well-being assessment highlighted strengths in social (Mdn = 3.83, IQR = 0.92) and psychological aspects (Mdn = 3.88, IQR = 0.76) but weaknesses in physical health (Mdn = 3.25, IQR = 1.05), particularly sleep quality. The Spearman Rho correlation results indicated minimal direct relationships between fanfiction engagement and self-concept (r = 0.053, p = .519, 95% CI [-0.107, 0.211]) and well-being (r = -0.038, p = .644, 95% CI [-0.197, 0.123]), suggesting that engagement alone does not significantly shape these aspects. Regression analysis further supported these findings, showing a minimal positive impact on self-concept (β = 0.039) and a minimal negative impact on well-being (β = -0.038). These results highlight the complexity of fanfiction's influence on self-concept and well-being, demonstrating the need for more nuanced research examining potential mediating and moderating variables within this relationship.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the experiences and perceptions of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) regarding their Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) course, their careers as CPAs, and their sources of motivation. A total of five (5) CPAs residing in the City of Koronadal were interviewed using a Descriptive Qualitative Design. The participants were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data collection involved researcher-made, open-ended interview guide questionnaires, and interviews were conducted online via Google Forms. Thematic analysis, following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) approach, was used to analyze their responses. The results revealed that participants during their time as accountancy students perceived the said profession as prestigious and financially rewarding. However, they faced significant challenges, including the mental demands of coursework, social isolation due to academic pressures, and financial constraints that affect their studies. When they became CPAs, their motivations shifted as they now balance extrinsic factors such as financial stability and family support with intrinsic motivations like personal growth and career fulfillment. Despite this, they continue to encounter stress, time management difficulties, and the pressure of continuous learning to stay competitive in the field. This study unfolded that while the accounting profession is challenging, motivation helps students and CPAs overcome obstacles and find success. Aspiring CPAs should develop strong financial expertise and perseverance. Likewise, CPAs must pursue continuous learning and mentorship, educators and policymakers should enhance practical training and support systems, and future researchers are encouraged to expand their sample sizes for deeper analysis.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study looked into the experiences of scam investment victims in South Cotabato during 2019. Eight (8) participants who had partaken in investment fraud with a minimum age of 22 were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis of Braun and Clarke (2006) to further understand the victim’s experiences in scam investment. In accordance with the research protocols, researchers made sure that the victims were not forced to partake in the study and their identity is confidential. Findings revealed that victims were mostly lured due to the high-return promises and framing effects. Social influence also further fuelled their desire to take part in the investment as their trusted friends and family members have shown successful gains. Fraudsters have also provided perceived legitimate evidence through mentions of registered permits. The emotional impact included disappointment, regret, and a sense of betrayal. The victim’s coping mechanisms involved optimization of resources, diverting loss to productivity, and developing a positive growth mindset, finding emotional support and optimizing strategies for them to eventually recover their losses. This study emphasized the importance of the critical need for financial literacy education, particularly regarding high-risk investments. Highlighting the importance of critical evaluation and due diligence in investment decisions. Furthermore, the government and non-state institutions, such as cooperatives and banks, initiate promoting financial awareness within communities, which are crucial to mitigating the risks of investment scams and empowering individuals to make sound decisions.

Abstract

Filipino farmers endure substantial financial strains despite contributing to the nation's food security. This study described the financial challenges faced by these tenant farmers and their coping mechanisms, aiming to inform interventions for improving their financial well-being and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The research employed qualitative research conducted in Koronadal City, Philippines, the study engaged eight farmers aged 40 and above with at least five years of farming experience. Purposive sampling, coupled with snowball sampling, facilitated the selection of participants experiencing financial strains and earning 80k or less quarterly. The study sought to determine how the financial strains of the tenant farmers may be described, what factors contribute to their financial strains, how they cope with these challenges, and how effective their coping mechanisms are. Semi-structured guided questionnaires and voice recorders were utilized for data collection, ensuring consistency and transparency. Braun and Clark's (2006) thematic analysis was used to identify key themes from the interview data. Findings reveal pervasive financial challenges stemming from limited access to resources, economic constraints, climate-related disruptions, and predatory pricing practices by agricultural traders. Farmers employ various coping mechanisms, yet their effectiveness remains constrained by systemic barriers. Theoretical frameworks, including Resource-Based Theory, Social Contract Theory, Risk Perception and Communication Theory, and Theory of Religious Coping and Resilience provide a comprehensive lens for understanding these challenges. Ethical considerations were paramount throughout the research process, ensuring participants' autonomy and privacy. This study expands the understanding of the realities faced by Filipino farmers and emphasizes the need for specific measures aimed at improving their financial stability and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the leadership skills and ad-ministrative behaviors fostering collective efficacy and satisfac-tory performance among teachers in elementary schools of Bay District, Division of Laguna. It employed the descriptive study endeavored as research method and the main technique of the study. As to the profile of school administrators, majority were 36 years old and above, more than half were female, nearly eighty percent were married, a bigger number were Bachelor's Degree with MA units, a little more than one-half occupied Teacher 1 position, and a great majority of them had served 6 to 10 years. Looking on the aspect of leadership traits the school admin-istrators were highly manifested in all areas such as effective communicators, accountable and responsible, long-term think-ers, self-motivated, confident, people oriented and emotionally stable.In terms of administrative behaviors, the school administra-tors were also found much effective in all areas such as caring and supportive, positive thinking, humility. trustworthy and empowerment. Parallel studies maybe conducted by examining other as-pects and nature of variables related to leadership skills and administrative behavior so that further assessments on the reli-ability and validity of the data in this research could be ascer-tained. It involved 300 respondents.In order to validate their assessment from the survey in-strument, the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered were facilitated by frequency counts, percentage, mean, stand-ard deviation, Pearson r and mediating variables. The study found out that there is no significant relationship between the school heads’ profile and the leadership traits and collective efficacy and school performance outcome. However, there is a significant relationship between the leadership traits, administrative behaviors, collective efficacy and performance outcome.
