Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the reasons for the non-participation of members of the association's programs and activities. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews with 20 non-participating members from four barangays, this study identified key reasons for non-participation, including familial responsibilities, political divisions, poor leadership, interpersonal conflict, and perceived unfair distribution of benefits. The analysis revealed that familial responsibilities, political issues, and leadership deficiencies were the most significant barriers to participation. Moreover, the study also identified factors that could encourage the members to actively participate in the association's programs and activities, including providing financial assistance, celebrating women's month activities, providing livelihood programs, and the wide dissemination of information by the officers in charge. The study suggests that Women's Associations must improve leadership and communication that will foster inclusivity and ensure equitable resource distribution.

Abstract

This study examined the connection between parental involvement and Chabacano language ability among Chabacano-speaking students from Ternate, Cavite. Chabacano in Ternate is based on an Indonesian-Malay ancestry but it evolved into a creole language based on the Spanish colonial period. Today, Chabacano in Ternate is still endangered. A descriptive-correlation research design was employed to examine the relationship between parental involvement and Chabacano language ability. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire using purposive sampling which gathered 138 high school students, The study found that the students with more parental support such as support for use of the language at home and support for community-based learning programs had a greater overall ability in Chabacano. The study reveals strong and statistically significant correlations between parental involvement and all domains of Chabacano proficiency. The highest correlation was found in conversational skills (r = 0.584), followed closely by overall proficiency (r = 0.591), indicating that students who receive consistent support from their parents tend to perform better in using the language interactively. Additionally, some differences in demographic means demonstrated differences in proficiency levels. Overall, the study highlights the important role of family involvement in the preservation of minority languages such as Chabacano, especially in an increasingly assimilated community where family involvement can demonstrate an appreciation of the cultural and unique tradition that exists. Abstract

This study developed and evaluated GOLEAN Alternative Tea, made from Bottle Gourd skin, Lemongrass leaves, and Anonang leaves as an alternative herbal beverage. Using descriptive and experimental research design, 90 respondents, composed of 30 tea consumers, 30 tea makers, and 30 tea sellers, assessed its acceptability and marketability in Marikina City during the School Year 2024-2025. The tea exhibited low moisture content (12.0 g/100g), a pH of 6.04, minimal vitamin C (<1 mg/100g), and acceptable microbial levels (1.2 × 10² CFU/g). Assessments were conducted using the Nine-Point Hedonic Rating Scale for acceptability and the Five-Point Likert Scale for marketability. Statistical analysis was performed using Weighted Mean and One-way ANOVA. Findings revealed that consumer respondents rated the tea as “Extremely Acceptable” (EA) with scores of 8.54, 8.60, and 8.51 for proportions A, B, and C, respectively. Significant differences in taste perception were observed among the groups, while no significant differences were found in marketability evaluations. The marketability ratings indicated that proportions A (4.76), B (4.79), and C (4.79) were deemed “Very Highly Marketable.” In conclusion, the study confirms the viability of GOLEAN Alternative Tea as a natural and affordable herbal beverage, highlighting its potential for high acceptability and marketability while addressing challenges and offering recommendations for improvement based on respondent feedback.

Abstract

This research investigates the functional literacy levels of barangay officials in selected agricultural communities within Guagua, Pampanga, aiming to design an extension program that improves governance effectiveness. Employing a quantitative descriptive design, the study utilizes a modified DepEd-ALS functional literacy test to evaluate reading, writing, and numeracy competencies among 30 elected officials across Ascomo, Pulungmasle, and Maquiapo. The findings reveal a significant gap between academic qualifications and practical literacy skills, with over 36% of respondents classified at the beginning literacy level. This underscores the need for targeted interventions, especially in remote areas with limited access to education. The study contextualizes functional literacy as a pivotal element for public service delivery, transparency, and civic engagement. Results show that while 80% of respondents attained college education, their functional abilities in written communication, budgeting, and digital tasks vary significantly. The proposed extension program is a six-week, module-based training covering reading, writing, numeracy, communication, and digital literacy. Recommendations include integrating technological tools, routine assessments, and peer mentorship to sustain improvements. Ultimately, enhancing functional literacy is framed not just as a personal upgrade for officials, but as a foundational strategy for community empowerment, responsive governance, and sustainable development.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has the potential to revolutionize teaching and learning, particularly in the development of students’ critical thinking skills. This study explores science instructors' familiarity, perceptions, and experiences with using AI to enhance students' critical thinking skills, as well as the level of institutional support for AI integration in teaching. A quantitative survey was conducted among 20 science instructors from higher education institutions in Isabela, Philippines. The findings reveal that while instructors acknowledge AI's potential to improve educational outcomes, there is a significant gap in formal AI training and literacy among educators. Positive correlations were found between AI literacy, AI integration, and critical thinking development, suggesting that as AI literacy increases, AI integration and enhancement of critical thinking skills also increase. Regression analysis identified AI integration as a significant predictor of critical thinking development. Challenges remain in the effective implementation of AI, including concerns about overreliance on AI-generated responses and the need for clear assessment guidelines. Interestingly, years of teaching experience did not significantly influence participants’ AI literacy, perceptions, or integration. This study highlights the importance of developing comprehensive AI literacy programs for educators and integrating AI into curriculum structures to balance AI-enhanced learning with human-centered pedagogy. These findings emphasize the need for thoughtful implementation and ongoing research to effectively leverage AI in promoting critical thinking skills in science education.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of the Punnet Square Dihybrid Cross (PUSDIC) board game in enhancing Grade 8 students' mastery of predicting phenotypic expressions of traits. Using a quasi-experimental design with 40 students from Cauayan City National High School, the research compared an experimental group using the PUSDIC board game to a control group receiving traditional instruction. Results showed significantly higher post-test scores in the experimental group, with a mean increase of 28.10 points (p < .001) from pre- to post-test. The PUSDIC board game demonstrated a very large effect size, indicating its substantial impact on students' mastery of the subject. This interactive approach addresses challenges in teaching genetics by promoting active learning, critical thinking, and collaboration. The study supports the use of educational board games as an effective, accessible, and low-cost strategy for teaching complex scientific concepts to secondary school students, offering an engaging approach to improve science education outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigated the organizational culture of a state university in the Philippines through the perceptions of part-time faculty members using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI). The OCAI assesses six dimensions of organizational culture: dominant characteristics, organizational leadership, employee management, organizational glue, strategic emphasis, and success criteria. Ten contract-of-service faculty members participated in the study, allocating 100 points among four cultural types (Clan, Adhocracy, Market, and Hierarchy) for each dimension to represent the existing and preferred cultures. The results showed that the existing culture was dominated by Clan culture (31.17 points), characterized by a friendly work environment and high employee commitment, followed by Hierarchy (27.83 points), Adhocracy (21.67 points), and Market cultures (19.33 points). The preferred culture profile indicated a desire for slight shifts, with increases in Adhocracy (2.66 points) and Market (5.17 points) cultures, and decreases in Clan (0.84 points) and Hierarchy (7 points) cultures. The differences between the existing and preferred profiles were less than 10 points, suggesting that there was no urgent need for cultural change. The findings contribute to understanding the organizational dynamics in Philippine state universities and may inform institutional policies and practices that support part-time faculty engagement and effectiveness. Recommendations include implementing strategies to balance the desired cultural shifts while maintaining the strengths of the existing clan culture, providing professional development opportunities, and conducting further research to examine the impact of organizational culture on faculty outcomes.

Abstract

Integrating portable augmented reality (AR) into physics education has the potential to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. This study investigates students' perceptions of the appeal and effectiveness of the Traveling Virtual Lab (TVL), a solar-powered AR learning kit designed to improve physics education in the Philippines. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing the "Student Acceptance of Virtual Laboratory questionnaire" adapted from Park (2009). The sample consisted of 58 students, with a balanced gender distribution and a majority at the tertiary-education level. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed to address the research questions. The results indicate that students perceive TVL as appealing and effective for learning physics concepts, with mean ratings of 3.9 for both variables. No significant differences were found in perceptions based on gender or grade. This study highlights the potential of portable AR to enhance physics education by providing immersive and interactive experiences that can visualize complex concepts and overcome resource constraints. However, challenges remain, including technological accessibility and the need for training teachers. These findings contribute to the growing body of literature on AR in education and have implications for the development and implementation of virtual laboratory technologies, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Future research should focus on addressing implementation challenges and exploring the long-term impact on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examined the professional and personal development of private and public senior high school teachers in Jones, Isabela, Philippines. Using a descriptive survey design, 60 teachers completed questionnaires assessing their demographic profiles, 21st-century competencies, and personal and professional capabilities. The results showed high proficiency across most areas, with no significant differences between private and public school teachers. Educational attainment positively impacted professional capabilities. Teachers demonstrated strong skills in classroom management, communication, and creating a respectful learning environment. However, areas for improvement include supporting learners and adapting to technological changes. These findings highlight the importance of ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes. Key implications include the need for collaborative learning experiences, technology integration, and curriculum design that incorporates real-world applications. The recommendations emphasize personalized professional development programs, reassessing assessment methods, and creating inclusive learning environments. This study contributes to understanding teacher development in the Philippine context, particularly by comparing the private and public sectors. This underscores the critical role of teacher motivation and enthusiasm in fostering student engagement. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of professional development initiatives and examine rural-urban disparities in teacher capabilities. Overall, the study advocates for a holistic transformation of educational practices to better equip teachers to meet 21st-century challenges and improve students’ learning experiences.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the food services sector across the Philippines, with localized industries such as those in Albay Province facing unprecedented challenges. This study examines the recovery dynamics of Albay’s food services sector in the post-pandemic era using a descriptive quantitative approach. Business profiles were analyzed in terms of employee count, capital investment, and modes of operation (dine-in, take-out, delivery, catering), revealing a predominance of micro-enterprises (77.05%) and limited capital resources. Despite minimal government support, food service establishments demonstrated strong resilience through adaptive strategies, most notably, the adoption of advanced digital tools. The study found high uptake of e-commerce platforms (94.26%), online delivery systems (81.97%), and universal implementation of digital payments and marketing strategies (100%). Financial recovery was also bolstered by private loans (24.59%), primarily bank-based. Survey data indicate that businesses achieved full recovery across key dimensions including operational efficiency, customer loyalty, financial stability, and employee retention. These findings show the industry capacity for innovation and adaptation despite the institutional gaps. The study recommends for the continued investment in technology, instruction and assistance using digital tools, and improve online payment systems to sustain the growth and ensure preparedness against the future disruptions.
