Abstract

This study assessed the research writing competence of master teachers and school heads through survey questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive data analysis techniques, including frequency counts, percentage distributions, and means were utilized to summarize and interpret the data. The research productivity profile indicated a clear need for additional training to enhance the research skills and knowledge of the educators. A few number of respondents had not undergone research-related training from 2017 to 2021, and a small number had completed research studies, presented research findings at conferences, and published research articles. This highlights the need to improve research generation, dissemination, and publication skills. Regarding research writing competence, self-assessments varied by role and education level. Elementary level master teachers demonstrated moderate competence in writing research, while expressing limited familiarity with knowledge on research methodology. Junior High School (JHS) master teachers and school heads generally perceived themselves as highly competent in various research writing tasks. However, they continued to encounter challenges in certain areas. They displayed high competence in conducting quantitative and qualitative research and in making use of their ICT skills in research. Additionally, they demonstrated a strong understanding of research ethical principles and standards. Overall, the study identified areas for improvement, including connecting research findings with existing literature, establishing research gaps, and enhancing research dissemination and presentation skills. These findings inform the design of targeted training programs and interventions to address these specific areas of improvement among master teachers and school heads, leading to improved research management in schools.

Abstract

The present research aims to investigate the explanatory effects of demographic factors, such as gender, generation types, and tenure, on employees’ post-transition QWL and commitment in the oil and gas sectors. This research used two oil and gas companies in Indonesia, one state-owned and one private company, that have just transitioned from foreign to national management. A survey of 159 employees was conducted to collect primary data. The analysis employed descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis. While gender did not elicit significant differences, generation types and tenure, on the other hand, generated substantial differences in employees' QWL and commitment. The X-er employees and those who had higher tenure in the post-transition scenario demonstrated the highest QWL and commitment. Furthermore, the most pronounced effect of QWL on commitment was found among employees with lower tenures than those with moderate or higher tenures. This study offers a novel approach by applying psychological contract theory to explain how QWL influences employee commitment within the oil and gas sector following a transition from foreign to national ownership and management. In addition, the use of gender, generation type, and tenure as explanatory variables offers fresh insights into understanding the dynamics of employee commitment in the transitional context.

Abstract

A bibliometric analysis was used to explore studies regarding the development of students’ vocabulary and reading comprehension with the use of multimodal strategies. There are 1,290 Scopus- indexed articles from 2020 to 2024, with key authors, theories, and themes identified. The results show increased exploration and interest in gamification, augmented reality, and digital tools developed and analyzed using theories in cognition and motivation. This study identifies the trends and gaps in future research and practice. Specifically, this study highlights that more longitudinal studies are needed, as well as more research on how multimodal learning connects with digital and media literacy.

Abstract

The construction industry frequently faces a range of risks, including safety concerns, financial uncertainty, and operational interruptions that can result in substantial costs. Given these ongoing challenges, adopting a structured approach to risk management has become increasingly important. This study examines the application of the ISO 31000 risk management framework in practice at XYZ Construction in Qatar, with a particular focus on the challenges encountered during implementation and the benefits observed by employees. Data were collected through a structured survey using a convenience sampling method, involving 56 employees from different levels of the organization, to evaluate the effectiveness of the applied risk management practices. The top five benefits identified were enterprise-wide risk perspective, alignment with organizational goals, proactive approach to risk, cost reductions, and increased stakeholder confidence. Nonetheless, implementation faced several barriers, such as knowledge and skills gaps, cultural and operational integration difficulties, limited training and leadership involvement, resistance to change, and inadequate resource allocation. This study utilized multiple regression analysis to investigate the simultaneous influence of various factors on the adoption of ISO 31000. Despite the comprehensive assessment of multiple variables, the findings indicated no statistically significant effect, implying that additional determinants may affect the adoption process. The findings highlight leadership support, clear communication, and strategic planning as vital for embedding risk management. Recommendations focus on targeted training, stronger leadership involvement, tailored risk tools, and improved cross-departmental collaboration to enhance resource allocation, cultural integration, and overall risk management effectiveness.

Abstract

The study examines the impact of digitalization on fiscal sustainability in local governments to assess how digital tools influence revenue mobilization, public service efficiency, and governance transparency. A systematic literature review was conducted, focusing on 17 peer-reviewed empirical studies published between 2015 and 2025. Employing the PRISMA framework, the review synthesizes quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies. Key findings reveal that digitalization, particularly through e-tax systems, increases tax compliance, streamlines service delivery, and reduces corruption. Commonly reported digitalization efforts include electronic tax filing systems, and smart governance platforms. Despite these advancements, several challenges persist such as limited technological infrastructure, data security risks, institutional resistance and low digital literacy, especially in developing rural areas. A major research gap identified is the limited exploration of long-term fiscal impacts and digital inclusion. These gaps are largely due to the absence of longitudinal studies and the underrepresentation of low-income or geographically remote municipalities in existing research. To address these limitations, the study recommends further investment in digital infrastructure, strengthening of cybersecurity frameworks, and expansion of digital literacy initiatives. Future research could focus on cross-country comparisons, environmental implications of digitalization, and long-term fiscal effects to inform more inclusive and resilient local governance strategies.

Abstract

Despite earning their degrees, many graduates still face a harsh truth—they're not meeting employer expectations. This study explores the skill gap between employers and student interns, focusing on Financial Management graduates from Nueva Vizcaya State University. Using a descriptive-quantitative method, data were gathered through survey questionnaires from 65 student interns and 15 Host Training Establishment (HTE) supervisors. Findings revealed both similarities and gaps in perceptions. For basic skills, employers placed more importance on communication, computer literacy, and being good with numbers than students. In hard skills, employers valued financial reporting, data analytics, risk assessment, and business acumen more than students did. For interpersonal skills, employers emphasized collaboration and negotiation, while students ranked them lower. In 21st-century skills, employers rated initiative and ICT literacy higher than students. Finally, regarding supplementary skills, employers gave greater importance to decision-making and data analysis — areas where students showed less awareness. The results indicate a disconnect between academic preparation and industry expectations, highlighting the need for stronger collaboration between schools and employers.

Abstract

The account ownership in digital-only banks has marked a significant growth since the Bangko Sentral of Pilipinas (BSP) has exclusively segmented these banks apart from the traditional ones in November 2020. This warrants the probe on the behavioral economics behind digital banking adoption and retention in the Philippines to examine how cognitive biases play in one’s decision to use and continually patronize digital-only banks. Grounded on Prospect Theory, Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Psychological Ownership Theory, the researcher administered survey questionnaires to 385 Filipino users of the digital-only banks. Descriptive-correlational research has been employed with the use of robust statistical testing such as PERMANOVA and Spearman’s rho. The findings of the study reveal that young, predominantly female, college-educated, lower- to middle-income adults characterized the primary adopters, though their engagement remained tentative. Behavioral constructs, adoption and retention drivers consistently drew neutral responses, suggesting cautious acceptance rather than enthusiasm. However, behavioral factors strongly influenced younger, self-employed, and lower-income users, whereas higher earners and those with higher educational attainment relied more on logical evaluation, financial benefits, and product-specific features, indicating varying motivations shaped by demographic intersections. This outcome calls for a more tailored customer experience so Filipinos can be enticed to adopt and retain digital banking services rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. This behavioral split unearths that some users crave control and confidence whilst the other seek connection and ease. Implications and recommendations have been provided in the end to help further the adoption and retention of digital banking services in the Philippines.

Abstract

This study examined mental health literacy (MHL), defined as the knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders that facilitate individuals' recognition, management, and prevention of such conditions. This study recruited 326 undergraduate health sciences students from a private university in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines. A causal-comparative design was employed, utilizing the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS) to assess students’ knowledge, attitudes, and help-seeking behaviors related to mental well-being. An independent samples t-test revealed no significant difference in MHL scores between female students (M = 123.00, SD = 12.40) and male students (M = 122.00, SD = 13.40), t(324) = 0.812, p = .417, Cohen’s d = 0.09, indicating a negligible effect size. However, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated a statistically significant difference in MHL based on academic programs, F(3, 122) = 5.96, p < .001. Tukey’s post hoc comparisons showed that psychology students (M = 127.00, SD = 12.70) had significantly higher MHL scores than students in nursing (p < .001) and medical laboratory science (p = .004), but not pharmacy (p = .60). These findings suggest that while sex assigned at birth does not significantly influence MHL, academic exposure does. The results highlight the importance of integrating mental health literacy into all health sciences curricula to equip future healthcare professionals with the competencies necessary to support mental well-being in both personal and clinical contexts. This fosters sustainable well-being and strengthens the resilience and responsiveness of the healthcare system.

Abstract

This study was conducted in order to determine the effects of macronutrient deficiency to the morpho-physiological and biochemical properties of abaca. Randomized Complete Block Design was used in the study with three nutrient omissions (N, P & K) replicated three times with 12 samples per treatment replicate. This was conducted at the National Abaca Research Center screenhouse, Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte.  Abaca under N and K deficiency produces the shortest plant height, pseudostem length, pseudostem girth, leaf length and leaf width. N deficient plant produces the smallest total leaf area while P deficient plants reduce pseudostem length and leaf width of abaca. However, P deficient plants showed comparable effects to the plant height, pseudostem girth, leaf length and total leaf area of abaca plants with complete nutrients. Furthermore, chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b content of abaca was lowest under N deficiency while control, P and K deficient plants showed comparable results. Free radical scavenging activity was also lowest under N and K deficient plants. Stomatal aperture was lowest under N, P & K deficient plants while P deficiency decreases stomatal length. These results suggests that abaca is more sensitive to N and K deficiency as most of the morpho-physiological and biochemical properties of abaca was significantly reduced under these conditions.

Abstract

The predominance of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) models on the web poses significant effects on the learning habits of the students at a state university due to its convenience in terms of access, grammar correction, paraphrasing text, and generating ideas. As a result, these features of Gen AI models have been the cause of the dissented researchers’ conclusion, and teachers raise concerns regarding their possible disadvantages to the students. Several researchers have shown the advantages and disadvantages of using Gen AI models in the academic endeavors of students. Hence, this study determined the relationship between exposure to Gen AI tools and the English writing proficiency of freshmen students specializing in the English language under an education program in a state university in the northern part of Panay Island in the Philippines. The descriptive correlation design was utilized to examine the relationship between two variables. A validated researcher-made questionnaire and essay writing performance test were used to gather the students’ profiles and to measure their English writing proficiency, respectively. Results revealed that the majority of the freshmen education students specializing in English language were female, most have used the Gen AI tool Quillbot but have low exposure to other Gen AI tools, and a moderately satisfactory rating in their English writing proficiency. It further established that the English writing proficiency has no or negligible relationship with their exposure to Gen AI tools.
