Abstract

  ABSTRACT   The increasing generation of paper waste presents significant environmental challenges. Vermicomposting offers a sustainable means of recycling biodegradable materials through earthworm activity. This study evaluated the growth, reproduction and vermicompost yield of the African Night Crawler (Eudrilus eugeniae) cultured on various paper waste substrates combined with manure. A Completely Randomized Design with six treatments and four replications was used: swine manure (control) and cow manure mixed with clean bond, used bond, notebook, carton, and newspaper wastes. Data on Eudrilus eugeniae proliferation, egg production, biomass, vermicompost yield, unconsumed substrate, and percent recovery were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD test at 5% significance (p < 0.05). Results showed that combining cow manure with paper wastes significantly improved E. eugeniae performance compared to the swine manure control(T1). E. eugeniae number increased from 112.25 (T1) to 808 (T5), egg production from 8.25 (T1) to 486 (T4), and vermicompost yield from 375 g (T1) to 1925 g (T4). Percent recovery peaked at 96.25% in T4, while unconsumed substrate was lowest (187.5 g). The carton and cow manure and newspaper and cow manure combinations yielded the best results, confirming their suitability as effective substrates for vermicomposting. The study concludes that cow manure-based mixtures, particularly with carton or used bond paper, provide optimal conditions for E. eugeniae and produce high-quality vermicompost. These findings highlight vermicomposting as a dual strategy for waste reduction and soil fertility improvement.

Abstract

Foreign teachers of students with special needs undergo the process of adaptation as they face different work dynamics. This phenomenological study aimed to explore the experiences of adaptation among foreign teachers in teaching learners with disabilities in South Carolina. Seven (7) foreign Special Education teachers teaching in South Carolina, who have participated in the interviews. Through thematic analysis, the study revealed themes to describe their lived experiences, views in working in the Special Education setting in South Carolina, and their adaptation to work. In terms of lived experiences, teachers described their experiences with themes such as: journeying through emotional and reflective realities of teaching; relationship building and collaboration; managing institutional demands and complex student needs; and adapting instruction and demonstrating pedagogical creativity. Foreign Special Education teachers viewed themselves of having global perspectives contribute to enriching the school community; and play the role of being the builder of inclusive, trusting, and culturally responsive educational spaces were also highlighted in the study. Findings also reveal that teachers adapt through instructional and professional adaptation; relational and collegial adaptation; and cultural integration and adjustment as ways on how they adapt to the teaching environment in the USA. The essence of foreign Special Education teachers’ experiences is captured by resilience, ongoing process of transformation, adaptation, and cultural integration, highlighting their critical role in enriching inclusive school environments. These findings highlight the need for culturally responsive training, supportive leadership, and inclusive policies to empower foreign Special Education teachers in U.S. classrooms.

Abstract

Grounded on curriculum change theories anchored with the unfreezing, change, and refreezing as necessary stages in managing educational transitions and the important roles of individual beliefs, systemic support, and supervisory strategies in implementing curriculum reforms, this quantitative-descriptive study investigated the resistance encountered by teachers and the supervisory strategies employed by school heads during the implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum by assessing the extent of teacher resistance in various dimensions, evaluate the supervisory strategies used by school heads, and analyze the effectiveness of these strategies from the perspectives of teachers. This research utilized a validated survey questionnaire to gather data from 150 teachers and 62 school heads in selected public elementary schools whom majority of teacher-respondents were female early adults, serving for 6–10 years, held the rank of Teacher I, most were handling Grade I learners and had earned master’s units. On the other hand, most school heads were middle adults, serving as Head Teacher III with EdD units and supervising 6–10 teachers. Findings revealed that in terms of resistance, both groups agreed that teachers encountered challenges related to readiness, structural and cultural constraints, learning resources, and perceptions of the curriculum. Notably, school heads perceived these challenges more intensely, particularly in the areas of support, training, and resources. Significant differences in resistance were observed based on academic rank, highest educational attainment, age, and sex. Monitoring and assessment emerged as the most effective supervisory strategy, followed by professional development, emotional support, and collaborative communication.

Abstract

This action research, conducted during the 1st Quarter of School Year 2023-2024 in the Schools Division of Zambales, aims to evaluate the vocabulary skills of Grade 5 pupils in English reading and propose innovative strategies for vocabulary development. Employing the descriptive-developmental method, the study encompasses the entire Grade 5 population (1,892 respondents) in central schools, utilizing total enumeration. Moreover, research investigates the current status of vocabulary skills through a vocabulary test and assesses the adequacy of existing materials. It also identifies pupils' needs, explores innovative strategies, and evaluates their acceptability. Statistical tools such as frequency distribution, rank, means, and standard deviations are employed for quantitative analysis. The qualitative description utilizes a rating scale from DepEd Order No. 8 s. 2015. Meanwhile, the findings reveal a mixed landscape of proficiency among Grade 5 students, with commendable competence in synonyms, antonyms, and general word association. Existing instructional materials are well-received, indicating high adequacy. Teachers emphasize the importance of diverse strategies and materials, aligning with contemporary educational approaches. The proposed innovative workbook receives overwhelmingly positive evaluations from English teachers, affirming its potential effectiveness. In conclusion, the study highlights the need for targeted interventions to address specific vocabulary challenges, continued use of existing materials with enhancements, and the implementation of a comprehensive curriculum. The positive reception of the innovative workbook suggests its potential as an effective tool for vocabulary improvement in Grade 5 pupils. Future research should delve into the causes of learners' challenges in vocabulary skills for a deeper understanding.

Abstract

The research study was intended to make an evaluation of the quality (contents, format presentation and organization, and usability) and effectiveness of Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) for Secondary Social Studies teachers of secondary schools in Zone 3, Division of Zambales. The perceptions and insights were solicited from the teacher - participants. The study was conducted during the Second Quarter of the school year 2020-2021. This study employed a descriptive research method with the survey questionnaire as the research instrument. The statistical treatment of this study utilized descriptive statistical tools. ANOVA and Pearson r are the inferential statistics used.The findings of the study revealed that the quality of Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) for Secondary Social Studies Program was very Satisfactory in terms of format, content and presentation and organization. However, the SLM was Satisfactory in Usability. The academic performance of the junior high school students in social studies was proficient in their pre-test and advanced in the post-test. Results also revealed that there is no significant difference on the perception of the respondents to the Quality of SLM for the Secondary Social Studies Program in terms of content, format, presentation and organization and usability. There is significant difference on the pre-test and post-test performances of the students in Social Studies (Araling Panlipunan) lessons. There is no significant relationship/correlation between the Quality and Effectiveness of the Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) in terms of content, format and presentation and organization.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between English language proficiency and academic performance among Grade VI pupils in selected elementary schools in Subic, Zambales. Employing a descriptive research design, data were gathered from 400 pupils through surveys and documentary analysis. The study assessed the pupils' proficiency in four key language skills listening, speaking, reading, and writing and examined their academic performance in English, Mathematics, and Science. Results indicated that pupils exhibited a good level of proficiency in listening and reading (receptive skills) and a very good level in speaking and writing (productive skills). In terms of academic performance, pupils achieved satisfactory levels in English, Mathematics, and Science. Significant differences were observed in the proficiency levels of the four macro skills, with listening and reading skills correlating strongly with academic performance in Mathematics. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between English proficiency and academic achievement, suggesting that enhanced language skills positively impact performance in other subjects, particularly in Mathematics and Science. The study emphasizes the importance of improving receptive language skills to foster academic success in these subjects. Based on these findings, the study recommends that educators prioritize the development of both receptive and productive language skills. Future research is encouraged to further explore the complementary relationship of these skills with academic performance and to validate the results of this study through follow-up investigations.

Abstract

Sustaining resources has been a challenge for businesses, particularly those highly dependent on raw materials derived from the natural environment. The roles of competencies and improvisation are crucial in adapting to and sustaining entrepreneurial activities, including, but not limited to, production, sourcing, and operations. Thus, this research is conducted to determine and assess the extent of entrepreneurial resources, entrepreneurial competencies, and entrepreneurial improvisation among select micro and small businesses. The research is descriptive and correlational in nature. The simple mean is used to assess the extent of entrepreneurial practices in terms of Resources, Competencies, and Improvisation, while Partial Correlation is used in determining the relationship between resources and competencies while controlling for business improvisation. Results revealed that for Entrepreneurial Resources, the select businesses agreed on the importance of resources with respect to entrepreneurial activities, specifically for Financial, Human, Physical, and Environmental. At the same time, Strong Agreement is expressed on Entrepreneurial Competencies, specifically for Systematic Planning and Monitoring, Opportunity Seeking, Goal Setting, and Persuasion and Networking. Lastly, a Strongly Agree is also expressed on Improvisation specifically for Ingenuity and Adaptability. Entrepreneurship requires various factors that contribute to its success and sustainability, such as Resources, competencies, and the ability to improvise, which must be present in all entrepreneurial activities. With regards to the relationship between Entrepreneurial Resources and Competencies when controlled by Entrepreneurial Improvisation, the results revealed a significant and strong positive relationship.

Abstract

Long-term viability of local enterprises may be affected by financial management behaviors of its owners. It is in this premise that this study was conducted among merchandising businesses in Bulan, Sorsogon. This study examined the accounting and sustainability of these merchandising enterprises to determine and assess accounting practices, identify and assess sustainability, and establish the relationship between accounting practices and sustainability. Correlational research design and mixed-method approach were utilized. Quantitative and qualitative data were gathered and analyzed to gain comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. Descriptive statistics, path analysis, and structural equation modeling were used to evaluate the direction of relationships between variables. The findings revealed that among merchandising businesses in Bulan, Sorsogon the accounting practices were practiced in an inconsistent manner. The most consistently done among these businesses were inventory management and record keeping. Data shows that conducting business in a manner that leads toward sustainability was practiced “sometimes”. Moreover, inventory management and record keeping had highest positive and significant effects on sustainability as shown by path analysis. SEM further verified this strong relationship. The study reveals that merchandising enterprises that are more systematic also exhibit higher resilience, financial stability and environmental responsibility.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of project-based learning (PBL) in enhancing the entrepreneurial skills of Grade 9 TLE cookery students at Amontay National High School for SY 2024–2025. It aimed to assess pre- and post-test scores in entrepreneurial competencies, compare the effectiveness of haptic engagement and cooperative & team-based learning, and determine the significance of score differences. A quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-tests was used. Purposive sampling selected 80 students, split between haptic engagement and cooperative learning groups. A validated researcher-made assessment measured skills in business planning, marketing, financial literacy, leadership, creativity, problem-solving, and communication. Findings showed significant improvement in entrepreneurial competencies after PBL. Both strategies enhanced skills, though cooperative learning showed higher post-test gains in most areas. T-test results confirmed statistically significant differences before and after PBL, affirming its effectiveness. The results suggest that structured PBL strengthens student competencies by offering real-world learning experiences. The study recommends that teachers and school heads integrate structured PBL approaches into entrepreneurship instruction, supported by experiential learning and partnerships with industry. Curriculum developers are encouraged to embed PBL in TLE subjects to promote innovation and collaboration. Future research may explore its long-term impact, including employer perspectives and digital entrepreneurship integration. This study affirms PBL as a valuable tool for developing essential entrepreneurial skills and preparing students for active economic participation.

Abstract

 the academic workplace, balance is under attack today more than ever before. It delves into the personal and social lived experiences of the participant who are faculty and at the same time academic leader of a state university in Northern Mindanao. Advanced research investigates how participants in higher education navigate and negotiate the multiple roles within and outside of their academic careers-pure description 14-campus environment used a phenomenological research design, involved academic leaders as participants, and individual, in-depth interviewed 14 campus participants with experiences deemed meaningful to exploring struggles and experience behind. In addition, coping behaviors and leaders' leadership philosophies. The academic experiences of these participants express the very real cost of wearing many hats, little time for oneself and high chances of burning out. But they also deploy several strategies that shape work culture to lean in a more positive direction. These involved controlling timing, limits and encouraging a healthy-lead culture. The participants also felt that they are the focus in this study and include everybody in policy construction and would want more diverse representations and on the other hand would guarantee campus acceptance of this policy. This study also identified that decision-makers need to act on evidence, and policy needs room to guide as the situation changes. University leaders may use the findings of this study to draft policies that enhanced work-life balance and organizational effectiveness. The self-care and mission can enable academic volunteers to set a stage for learning that works, the researcher, the faculty, students, and the community.  experiences.
