Abstract

This project was intended to educate, enable and empower Keningau youth from both technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and mainstream backgrounds to contribute to the community through a building repair and upgrade project. Repair and maintenance in any manmade structure are always necessary but there are many variables which include regularly scheduled maintenance, lack of skilled manpower and limited funding can hinder such routine. Hence, this community project known as Steel Steady mobilized youth volunteers who were essentially students from Keningau Vocational College as well as other schools in Keningau, Sabah, to learn the basics of welding and take part in a building repair and upgrade at a chosen location. The volunteers were required to answer community-based learning (CBL) and civic engagement instruments upon completing the project to determine their overall perception on their experience as volunteers in the community project and to determine the level of influence that each dimension had on their civic engagement. The results from descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis on their responses suggest that the respondents had positive experience from the project based on the four dimensions of CBL; teamwork, participation, reflection and leadership. These four dimensions strongly influenced their sense of civic engagement.  This implies that CBL is a highly plausible approach in cultivating a sense of awareness, empathy and responsibility of youths towards their community’s needs.

Abstract

The study aimed to explore and quantify the push-pull factors that contributed to the tourists' choice of travel destinations in Bataan Province, Philippines as a form of revenge travel, utilizing the descriptive-quantitative research method.  A total of 400 local and domestic tourists aged 18 to 65 who visited and stayed in any of the five (5) municipalities—Balanga, Pilar, Bagac, Mariveles, and Morong—in Bataan Province served as respondents. The study revealed that push factors influencing travel to Bataan Province included novelty seeking, ego enhancement, and the desire for rest and relaxation, as respondents were motivated by new experiences, family bonding, and personal enjoyment. Pull factors likewise played a crucial role, with environment and safety, as well as cultural and historical attractions, being highly prioritized by respondents. The affordability and quality of tourism facilities further enhanced the satisfaction of their travel needs. In general, the study revealed that push and pull factors were both significant in helping respondents in choosing their travel destination in Bataan Province. Additionally, the results revealed that there was a significant difference in the influence of push and pull factors when the demographic profile of the respondents was considered. Based on the study’s findings, to enhance Bataan’s cultural tourism appeal, stakeholders should develop diversified cultural programs that highlight the province’s heritage and ecology, prioritize sustainability and community collaboration, and deliver high-quality, data-driven tourism experiences aligned with tourists’ diverse motivations.

Abstract

Natural calamities are a major concern in the Philippines, and the province of Bulacan is consistently at the receiving end of these catastrophes, suffering from regular flooding and typhoons that lead to food and nutrition shortages. The goal of this study was to create chicken adobo with rice, a ready-to-eat meal in flexible retort pouches, that guarantees microbiological safety, consumer acceptability, and applicability in disaster relief missions. The product was thermally treated at 240°F (115°C) for 15 minutes at 10 psi, and thereafter, microbiological and sensory evaluations were conducted. Community members, food instructors, and food industry experts comprised the 90 respondents who evaluated product acceptability on a 9-point hedonic scale. The results showed that the RTE rice meal passed the FDA microbiological safety tests, with no trace of Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, or E. coli. Aerobic Plate Count (APC) and Staphylococcus aureus numbers were below the limit. The sensory evaluation gave the total acceptability score of 7.8 ("like very much"), with excellent ratings for aroma, flavor, and texture. The packaging of flexible retort pouches was found to be the most economical, lightweight, and easy to distribute under disaster conditions. The study concludes that the prepared RTE chicken adobo rice meal is safe, nutritious, and acceptable to the people, thus serving as an effective measure to improve food security and disaster management in Bulacan and other areas affected by disasters.

Abstract

Client service efficiency has been a key issue in academic institutions as the rise in student populations overburdens the administrative functions of institutions. To eliminate the issues of manual queuing and appointment systems, this paper has developed the Smart Queuing and Appointment Management System, the web-based system that targets the administration of Bulacan State University -Bustos Campus. The system is expected to simplify the flow of clients, decrease waiting time and improve service delivery by using automated queue management, online scheduling and real time monitoring of transactions. The project was designed in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL and adhered to the Agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to guarantee iterative user-driven enhancement of the project. To measure the performance and acceptability of the system, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the ISO/IEC 25010:2023 Software Quality Standards were used, and the techniques were functionality, usability, reliability, and efficiency. The evaluation involved 50 respondents, who were recorded in terms of surveys and interviews, and they were a combination of students, administrative staff, and IT specialists. The result showed that the system had a general weighted mean of 4.59 according to ISO/IEC 25010, which is interpreted as Strongly Agree, and this shows a high-quality functionality, reliability and usability. Under TAM, the responses of staff and students were very positive and the weighted means of responses were 4.84 and 4.45, respectively. These findings indicate that the system is successfully used to increase administrative efficiencies, reduce congestion as well as client satisfaction.

Abstract

This study looked at how aware Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and their dependents are of PhilHealth’s Primary Care Benefit (PCB) and KonSulTa (YaKap) Program, and how often they use these services and change their health seeking behavior for health services such as proactive enrollment, routine consultations, and early intervention. This study was conducted in the selected rural municipalities of Kalinga, Philippines. Although the program was created to strengthen primary health care under the Universal Health Care Act, the findings suggest that many frontline health workers are not fully informed about the program or are not able to access its services easily. The study aimed to find out how familiar BHWs are with the different parts of the program and how often they use services such as enrollment, First Patient Encounter, medical consultations, diagnostic tests, and medicines. It also identified the common problems that prevent them from using these services. A total of 115 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) were included in the study, which included structured questions and semi-structured interviews. Data were further subjected using cross-sectional descriptive research. Results revealed that awareness of the PCB/YaKap Program with 34.88% low awareness among respondents, limited utilization of 22.95%, and 76.18% have identified challenges, which includes inadequate information dissemination, procedural complexity, logistical challenges, inconsistent service availability, long waiting times and staffing limitations. The study also found that awareness and usage did not significantly differ based on age, sex, civil status, years of service, or educational background.

Abstract

This study examines the profiles of Department of Tourism (DOT) – accredited farm tourism owners and their enterprises in Cavite, providing one of the first empirical assessments of the financial and operational impacts of the COVID–19 pandemic on this niche tourism sector. Using interviews with six farm owners and managers, the study analyzed demographic characteristics – sex, age, civil status, educational attainment, and primary occupation – as well as enterprise attributes such as business type, years of operations, farm size, services offered, employee demographics, guest volume, and farm revenue. Descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, and percentage) were used in the analysis. Findings show a balanced gender distribution among owners, most of whom are married, have completed college, and engaged primarily in farming, with an average age of 55. More than half of the enterprises operate as corporations, have been in business for 10 years, and maintain an average farm size of 8 hectares. While pandemic restrictions limited operations to 30 percent capacity, the data reveal an overall increase in average revenue, suggesting adaptive income-generation strategies and resilience within the sector. The positive change can be attributed to a stronger strategic focus on educational tourism services and emerging digital marketing efforts in spite of the industry restrictions.

Abstract

Economically, the sugarcane industry is one of the major sources of dollar income in the Philippines.  It is planted in different types of soil, environments, and cultural management. Sugarcane is a voracious eater of fertilizer. The main purpose of innovating the fertilization activities in the farm is to increase production in order to sustain the sugarcane industry. The study aims to measure the fertilization innovations practice by the farmers that could affect the production of the sugarcane crop in the Philippines. The descriptive method was employed in the study. The instrument used was the validated survey questionnaire used by the group of Oñal in their study in 2021. The 320 sugarcane farmers were randomly identified at the seven locations in the Visayas area of the Philippines. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) implied that there’s a significant difference in the production of sugarcane among the different locations in the Philippines. Furthermore, the frequency of applying the fertilizers, the correct placement of fertilizers, maximizing the application of N and K elements, and the combo application of organic-inorganic fertilizers implied a high production respectively.  The correct placement of fertilizers and the application of organic-inorganic fertilizers were strongly correlated with sugarcane production but moderately correlated with the level of N and P elements applied. The study revealed that fertilization innovations had a significant relationship in increasing the productivity of the sugarcane crop in the Philippines.

Abstract

This study examined the communication challenges and macro skill proficiency of third-year Purposive Communication students at the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) during the first semester of SY 2024–2025. Using a descriptive-comparative-correlational design, data were collected from 152 students across four programs through using IELTS mock tests and researcher-made questionnaires. Findings revealed that students struggled most with understanding main ideas and inferencing, followed by critical thinking, lexical resource and vocabulary, reading strategies, and grammatical range accuracy. All macro skills were all at developing levels except viewing, which found to be in Good level; revealing listening to be the weakest and viewing as the strongest. There were significant performance differences found across paired macro skills with listening varying significantly among other macro skills and across paired programs with Bachelor of  Science in Civil Engineering [BSCE] students performing the strongest and Bachelor of Engineering Technology Major in Mechanical Automotive Engineering Technology [BET-MAET] performing the weakest. The study found a significant correlation of about 47.9% variance showing that students who faced greater communicative challenges are also likely to have lower macro skill proficiency. Strategies employed in reading, critical thinking, and grammatical skills proved to have moderate effects on majority of the macro skills but proved to have very weak influence on reading, interestingly as it is also the least influenced skill.

Abstract

This study investigates emotional intelligence with respect to leadership research by analyzing 1881 Scopus-indexed relevant documents from between 1952 and 2024. Through bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer and the Bibliometrix package in R, the mapping has been analyzed for publication trends, leading authors, influential journals, conceptual themes, and global collaboration networks. The results reveal scholarly activity moving slowly at first but then accelerating significantly starting in 2010, which coincides with the growing recognition of emotional intelligence as an important factor in effective leadership and high organizational performance. Some notable authors are Boyatzis, Stoller, and Humphrey whose works are tending to be referred to for continuing to shape research development. The analysis of themes denotes two major areas: (1) Individual emotional skill, psychological dimension, and personality trait-centered research and (2) studies on the use of emotional intelligence in leadership, teamwork, interaction, and organizational management in workplaces. Integration of Emotional Intelligence theory with leadership practice is still limited despite a good number of publications, as much output is concentrated in management and healthcare, with many other industries missing out. Moreover, collaboration patterns indicate strong inputs from Western countries while developing regions remain less visible. These results imply that, despite the further development of the area, there are considerable gaps in the research, especially regarding the integration of emotional intelligence and online leadership situations, management teams, and artificial-intelligence-based organizational frameworks, and in the cross-cultural and underrepresented regional contexts.

Abstract

This tracer study examined the career outcomes of Bachelor of Industrial Technology graduates majoring in Welding and Fabrication Technology (BIT-WFT) from Batangas State University for academic years 2021–2023. The study aimed to assess graduates’ demographic and educational profiles, employment outcomes, relevance of acquired competencies, and job satisfaction, with the end goal of proposing an action plan to improve employability. Data from 55 graduates revealed that most were male, aged 20–24, and had passed NC II and NC III certifications. The employment rate was 95%, with the majority securing jobs within 2–5 months after graduation, primarily in the non-government sector as pipe welders and fabricators. AG&P emerged as the leading employer, with typical monthly salaries ranging from ₱10,000 to ₱30,000. Respondents perceived their course, curriculum, and competencies as highly relevant to their employment, particularly problem-solving, critical thinking, and human relations skills. While most graduates expressed job satisfaction, salary and growth opportunities influenced their intent to stay or change jobs. The study concludes that the BIT-WFT program is generally effective in preparing graduates for industry needs but highlights areas for curriculum alignment, professional growth, and industry partnerships.
