Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into education, offering new ways to address global learning challenges. This study examines the development and effectiveness of MiniXplorer, a mobile application powered by Google’s Machine Learning Kit (ML Kit) for image recognition and Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology. The project also considers how the app contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). The study followed a descriptive-developmental design using a mixed-methods approach. MiniXplorer was tested in different image conditions (e.g., resolution, format, lighting, and noise), underwent automated compatibility checks, and was assessed for security risks. User experiences were evaluated following the ISO/IEC 25010 quality standards, with data collected from surveys, interviews, and observations. MiniXplorer showed strong performance, working best with natural lighting, .jpg formats, and front or side object views (average ratings between 2.50–2.83 on a 3-point scale). It was also capable of handling partial obstructions and more complex image scenarios. Automated testing confirmed smooth compatibility with modern Android operating systems. Users gave positive feedback across all ISO 25010 criteria, with particularly high scores in functional suitability (1.42–2.00), usability (1.49), and reliability (1.75). Two minor security issues were detected but were promptly resolved. MiniXplorer has proven to be an engaging, accessible, and effective educational tool for young learners. Its design and performance support the goals of SDG 4, SDG 9 and SDG 10 by promoting inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education through the use of affordable AI technologies.

Abstract

This study examined the impact of multimedia presentations on the development of auditory awareness and oral communication skills in kindergarten children, as perceived by teachers in the Subic District. Emphasizing the importance of phonological awareness as a foundational skill in early literacy, the research explored how multimedia tools such as interactive whiteboards, flashcards, and video content facilitated phonetic development and speaking abilities. A total of 49 kindergarten teachers participated in the study, which employed a descriptive survey method to collect data on teachers' demographics, the level of multimedia integration, and the challenges faced in implementing multimedia in the classroom. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents were young, female teachers with limited experience. Multimedia tools were reported to be "greatly integrated" into reading and visual skills but were "reasonably implemented" for auditory skills. Variations in multimedia use were observed based on factors such as seminar attendance, years of service, and educational background. Key barriers included insufficient training, limited resources, and a lack of institutional support. Despite these challenges, the study confirmed that multimedia significantly contributed to enhancing phonological awareness. To fully maximize the potential of multimedia integration, the study recommended improving technological support, providing ongoing content-specific professional development, and regularly evaluating student progress to refine teaching strategies.

Abstract

This phenomenological qualitative study explored the lived experiences of 14 rice farmers in Lapinig, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, aiming to investigate the challenges and financial impact of unregulated 'Tarha' (tare weight deduction) practices on their livelihood.  Using a phenomenological approach under qualitative research design and purposive sampling method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 14 rice farmers. The data gathering was conducted over two (2) days.  Thematic analysis revealed three key themes: (1) Excessive Tare Deduction as a Major Challenge, where farmers shared how large deductions significantly reduced their profit; (2) Coping Mechanisms through Sun-Drying and Palisan, reflecting how farmers reduce moisture and impurities to lower deductions; and (3) Calls for Reduction of Tare Deduction, where participants voiced the need for fairer and standardized deduction practices. Findings indicate that unregulated "Tarha" practices negatively affect the financial sustainability of farmers. The study recommends stricter monitoring by the Department of Agriculture, transparent guidelines from traders, and empowerment programs for farmers to promote fair trade and agricultural sustainability.

Abstract

Assessment plays a significant role in enhancing the teaching and learning process, serving as a tool to gauge students’ understanding and guide instructional improvement. However, traditional assessments in science education often emphasize rote memorization rather than conceptual understanding and real-world application. This study investigated the relationship between the utilization of authentic assessments in General Chemistry 2 and students’ learning experience among Grade 12 STEM students at Pasig National High School, during the first semester, S.Y. 2025–2026. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected from 80 randomly selected respondents through a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics revealed that authentic assessments are frequently used in their General Chemistry 2 class. Moreover, Grade 12 STEM students demonstrated a highly positive learning experience in terms of learning engagement, conceptual understanding and perceived real-life relevance. Meanwhile, inferential statistics using Pearson’s correlation showed a significant relationship between utilization of authentic assessments in General Chemistry 2 and students’ learning experience, with weak to moderate positive correlations (r values ranging from 0.254 to 0.657, p<0.05). These findings imply that as the utilization of authentic assessments in Chemistry class increases, the students’ learning experiences also increases. Furthermore, it is recommended that science teachers continuously integrate and diversify authentic assessments to promote reflection, collaboration, and critical thinking. Additionally, teacher training programs should emphasize on designing rubrics and validating authentic assessment that align with the K–12 science curriculum competencies, thereby preparing learners for real-world problem-solving and lifelong learning.

Abstract

This study determined how much Grade 11 students are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers. The students were part of the new Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum in the Philippines for School Year 2025–2026. A total of 455 students answered a survey about how they feel relative to STEM careers. The results showed respondents’ high interest in science, technology, and math careers, but their interest in engineering jobs was not as high. In terms of career pathways, students who chose Health and Wellness Sciences liked science the most, and students in Engineering and Natural Sciences liked technology and engineering more. Students in Business and Accounting were the most interested in math. As to sex assigned at birth (i.e., male and female), it was found that both were almost the same in liking science and math, but males were more interested in technology and engineering than females. It can be summarized that students were already interested in STEM, especially when their studies match the career they want in the future. Because of this, even though strands are no longer part of the Strengthened SHS Curriculum, schools are encouraged to provide more hands-on STEM opportunities and experiences to all students so everyone can uncover their talents and gain higher confidence in STEM activities. More students can grow up to become future scientists, engineers, doctors, and innovators who will help improve the country.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of using the Filipino language as an auxiliary medium of instruction in teaching Physics among Grade 10 students at Mindanao State University–Maguindanao Integrated Laboratory Science High School. The research employed an experimental pre-test and post-test design involving two groups: a control group taught through conventional English instruction and an experimental group taught with Filipino as a supplementary language during lessons on problem-solving and computations. Data were collected using validated and reliable test instruments and analyzed through mean scores, t-tests, and standard deviations. Findings revealed that the control group obtained a mean score of Fair, while the experimental group achieved a higher mean score of Good. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference between the two groups before instruction, but a significant difference after instruction. These results indicate that incorporating the Filipino language as an auxiliary medium significantly enhances students’ comprehension and performance in Physics, particularly in solving numerical and conceptual problems. The study concludes that bilingual instruction, where Filipino complements English, can serve as an effective pedagogical approach in Physics education. It aligns instruction with learners’ linguistic and cognitive capacities, promoting inclusivity, confidence, and academic achievement. The researchers recommend further integration of Filipino in science classrooms and a review of language policies to strengthen equitable and meaningful science learning.

Abstract

Research engagement in Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is a pressing challenge. Despite its recognized importance for instructional innovations and institutional development, many faculty members avoid research, even when incentives are available. This qualitative-transcendental phenomenology explores and describes the experiences and insights of instructors on the factors affecting their research engagement. Through purposive sampling, specifically the criterion sampling technique, thirty-two (32) participants were selected from the four branches of Davao de Oro State College (DdOSC). The validated interview guide questions were used as the primary instrument in obtaining data through in-depth interviews and focus-group discussion, and the responses were thoroughly analyzed using thematic analysis. The significant factors identified by faculty were graduate studies and work responsibilities. Additionally, their lack of technical research writing knowledge contributed to their research limitations. Faculty members emphasized the need for ongoing research guidance, mentorship, and a wider range of incentives, such as integrating research into teaching loads, salary increases, and travel opportunities. Communication gaps between faculty and institutional research policies were evident, as some faculty members were unaware of the college's support. This study's implications stress the need for institutions to reconsider faculty workloads, offer additional training, and establish support systems that create a more research-friendly environment. Addressing these factors and expanding incentives can inspire faculty to participate in research activities, fostering a vibrant research culture and advancing knowledge within the academic community.

Abstract

Level of satisfaction plays a crucial role in guiding the company through maintaining the loyalty of their registered retailers.  This study was conducted to determine the level of satisfaction towards the services offered by Millennium Distribution System Incorporation (MDSI) among their registered retailers in Tangub City.  A descriptive-quantitative research design was used. A total of 156 registered retailers using an adopted-modified survey questionnaire.  The study was carried throughout the academic year 2024-2025 in the second semester.  The findings revealed that registered retailers strongly agree with the services offered by the company, particularly ordering service quality and delivery service quality, which further implies a very high level of satisfaction.  However, visual merchandising is the least factor that the registered retailers agreed, which further implies a high level of satisfaction.  This implies that the services offered by the Millennium Distribution System Incorporation in Tangub City have their retailers’ interest in mind.  The study concluded that all service factors contribute to retailer satisfaction and that the company’s sales agents and personnel are fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.  These findings may assist MDSI in reinforcing its goal of delivering excellent and high-quality services to its registered retailers.

Abstract

This study investigated the long-term sustainability of marriage in the Philippines, addressing a gap in local research on couples married for 25 years or more. Using a qualitative design with purposive sampling, interviews were conducted with five long-married Filipino couples (ten participants) to explore their reasons for marrying, their definition of marriage, the secrets to their longevity, and their marital satisfaction. Results demonstrate that the endurance of these unions is rooted in three key themes: commitment, tradition, and mutual reliance. The initial decision to marry was driven by love and the traditional desire to build a family before cohabitation. Participants uniformly defined marriage as a sacred, lifelong covenant and a commitment. The essential ingredients for sustaining high satisfaction were consistently identified as open communication, reciprocal respect, mutual support, and persistent effort. The study concludes that intentional commitment and the adherence to traditional family values are indispensable factors for the long-term survival and stability of these Filipino partnerships, despite shifting societal views.

Abstract

This study determined the commonly used instructional strategies and the relationship of reading motivation on the reading proficiency levels of Grade 7 students, and used these findings as basis for developing a teacher-led intervention material. The research design used was descriptive-correlational design with a sample of 139 Grade 7 students and 7 English teachers. Analysis of data was done using Weighted Mean, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, Coefficient of Determination and modified ADDIE model. Results showed that the identified instructional strategies were used often by teachers, their average weighted mean (AWM) being 3.09. Regarding reading skills, students displayed strong reading fluency (56.80%) and moderate vocabulary knowledge (59.70%). Nevertheless, students showed a frustration-level performance in reading comprehension (43.90%), indicating that they struggle to independently understand texts and need significant support from teachers to grasp reading materials. Analysis of reading motivation of Grade 7 showed that the level of motivation was moderately high, with an (AWM) of 2.91. Correlation tests revealed that reading motivation had a very weak effects on reading proficiency, with r-squared values ranging from 0.0016% to 2.7556%, suggesting minimal contribution of motivation to students’ reading performance. These results were the foundation of a teacher-directed intervention resource aimed at overcoming the challenges outlined and helping the students to become more proficient and motivated in reading. Altogether, the research highlights the necessity of more specific and teacher-centered strategies to enhance the level of reading comprehension and interest among the students.
