Abstract

In order to achieve excellence in teaching and learning, it needs stronger, skillful teachers with technical expertise. The study was conducted to compare the teaching capability of teachers in Urban and Rural areas. The study utilized descriptive-comparative and mixed methods of research, and it was conducted at selected schools in the urban Cotabato City division and schools in the rural, Maguindanao-1 division. There were 56 totals of teachers, both in urban and rural areas. Respondents determined using total complete enumeration from 1 to 6 English teachers and the principal of each school. A self-made survey questionnaire was used to gather data. Random interviews and observations were done to validate respondents' answers. Statistical tools used were mean to describe teaching capability and a T-test of independent means to determine the difference. The extent of teaching capability of teachers in urban areas in terms of teachers' teaching strategies was rated very satisfactory, and in the rural area rated satisfactory. Implementing classroom management in urban areas was very satisfactory, while rural ones rated satisfactory. The difference between teachers' teaching capability in urban and rural areas was not significant. It is concluded that teachers in both urban and rural areas were performing well, although there is little difference in the implementation of the task as their teaching capabilities. This recommends that teachers in urban and rural areas improve their teaching capabilities and give more effort to mold their pupils to become competent to face the standards at the next level of their education

Abstract

The adverse effects of the ongoing pandemic caused big corporations to incur financial losses, which resulted in shrinkage of sales, increasing costs, and retrenchment. The entities' financial resilience was questioned, challenged, and business operations were paralyzed during the pandemic. Based on their market capitalization, this paper examined the top three listed companies in the Philippine Stock Exchange’s selected financial ratios if there were significant differences before and during the pandemic. Quantitative research using secondary data was used to quantify the mean and paired t-test based on the selected financial ratios. The results revealed that the current ratio, quick ratio, debt ratio, debt to equity, asset to equity, net profit margin, and return on assets had no significant effect on financial performance before and during the pandemic. Eventually, the return on equity showed a significant effect in the study. Therefore, presenting the findings, the study concluded that these companies were inefficient in generating profits and had a significantly high level of debt during the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, a discussion about the benefits for the policymakers, potential and existing investors, and future researchers was also provided.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the level of primary mathematics school teacher’s Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) and the achievement of learners of the selected districts of the Division of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. The participating teachers were able to complete the survey on the following components namely, technology knowledge, content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, technological pedagogical knowledge, technology and pedagogy and content knowledge, and the mathematics achievement level of learners. This study employed descriptive – correlational design to describe the variables and the relationship among them. The results revealed that teachers have high knowledge on the seven components of TPACK and obtained highest average on the technological pedagogical knowledge directly proportional with the mathematics achievement level of the learners. Though teachers showcasing their mastery level of teaching, still they need the support of technology to address the immediate concerns in dealing with the new normal. Thus, teachers may be encouraged to attend conferences, seminar – workshops, and training related to technology specifically training on technology applications that promotes easy techniques in solving word problems in primary grade mathematics.

Abstract

One of the components that shape the educational system is the instructor. They do several tasks at school that significantly impact students' character, value system, principles, and the character of the entire population. Because of the teacher's position in the classroom, the need for teacher professionalism, discipline, competence, commitment, and innovation is crucial for teachers to contribute to the country's educational aim of obtaining an exceptional education. Per the recommendations of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, this study surveyed 31 faculty members in the School of Arts and Sciences department. It evaluated their competency in integrating technology into pedagogical content using Johnson's (2001) cross-sectional descriptive design. Using the updated TPACK (Technology, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge) instrument developed by Valtonen et al. (2017), the study found that liberal arts faculty understand how various technologies can be used in the classroom. They also recognized that incorporating technology into the classroom may change their teaching. A strong relationship was found between teachers' service length, pedagogical knowledge, sex, and technological knowledge. It was suggested that school administrators prioritize program and investment strategies that develop an experienced teaching workforce of high-quality individuals. It is also advised that the faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences engage in activities that optimize Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to increase their content knowledge, professional growth, and professional learning.

Abstract

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) has been found to be the new way for those who want to continue in their studies despite the challenges and current situation they are facing. Apparently however, there are studies recorded that there is a gap between the 21st-century skills of these ALS learners. With this concern, it becomes the notion of the researcher to describe and assess the 21st-century skills acquisition of enrolled Alternative Learning System Senior High School (ALS SHS) learners in one stand-alone public senior high school in the City of Meycauayan, Bulacan, for the School Year 2022-2023. The researcher made use of quantitative descriptive survey design to assess the 21st-century skills of 41 ALS SHS learners enrolled. Findings revealed that most of the respondents were female; in the age-range of 20-24 years old; and, have a monthly income of less than Php 5,000.00 a month. Alternative Learning System Senior High School (ALS SHS) learners had a moderate level of 21st-century skills acquisition. Furthermore, it showed that there is no significant difference on the 21st-century skills acquisition of ALS SHS learners when group according to gender and age-range, but there is a significant difference on the 21st-century skills acquisition of ALS SHS learners when group according to their socio-economic status (monthly income). For its recommendation, the proposed capacity building program aimed to improve further the Alternative Learning System Senior High School (ALS SHS) learners’ 21st-century learning skills and to jive on the current trends and challenges of 21st-century education despite of their struggles in life.

Abstract

Training effectiveness is measured by observable changes in knowledge, skills, and attitude after training has been conducted. This study investigates the industry partners' feedback on the On-the-Job training of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Bachelor of Arts in Economics interns. The researchers utilized the mixed method approach using the embedded research design. The researchers used the retrospective -descriptive quantitative design for the quantitative data. 40 practicum students' performances were evaluated during their on-the-job training for the School Year 2019 – 2020. Data were analyzed and presented using statistic numerical measures, and the relationship of variables was tested using spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient at a 0.05 significant value. Moreover, the researchers used thematic analysis of Braun and Clarke (2006) for the qualitative data. Results show that there is enough evidence to suggest that there is no statistically significant correlation between the profile of the students and their performance in practicum at α=0.05. Based on these findings, it is inferred that the students’ sex and course have no bearing on their shown knowledge and attitude, punctuality and active presence, performance proficiencies, and interpersonal interactions abilities at work. It is also found out that the industry partners noted strengths and weaknesses to the practicum students. This study discovered that the industry partner perceived the practicum students' performance to be competent in actual practice. Additionally, these findings pave way for the Economics and Communication department to select, develop, arrange, and implement meaningful classroom activities that promote sociability and prepare students for future careers.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find the meaning of resilience for students experiencing tornadoes. To attain the meaning of fear for a person with traumatic injury, to know the common effects of experiencing a tornado. To accomplish the reason for the study, the phenomenological method was used to comprehend and interpret the meaning of experiences of student's life when they experienced a tornado. The learners of one of the leading private schools in the Division of Pampanga-Philippines served as the informants of the study. Results revealed that the majority of the learners’ state that resiliency is a type of adaptability wherein they were able to adapt to the changes in their surroundings, on how they can stand regardless of what they have encountered, they were able to overcome it and that made them a resilient person. The researchers conducted an interview wherein most of their informants’ state that the fear and trauma they got from experiencing a tornado affects their lives. It can hinder someone from achieving their goals, they fear something they want to try because most of them state that it might happen again, it might cause them danger again, and they overthink just a wind that they think, another tornado will come again. When it comes to the effects of experiencing a tornado, most of them stated that they got scared and traumatized. Despite all the negative effects, tornados changed their perspective on life. It also recommended that parents and teachers provide comfort, counseling, and monitoring of learners' behavior.

Abstract

This paper addresses a general description of small family farms in Indonesia. Building on a literature review, it sheds light on the significant role of small family farms in Sustainable Development Goals, family farms in Indonesia and their challenges, as well as on the impact of investments oriented to farmers for food security. The reviews indicate that enabling family farmers to fulfill their roles can affect the acceleration of progress across crucial elements of Sustainable Development Goals. Key challenges faced by the farmers include low technology implementation, limited access to finances, farm size fragmentation, infrastructure and market linkage, the climate factor, and availability and accessibility of fertilizers and seeds. In conclusion, this paper highlights the importance of investment in small family farms for improving access to financial services and public goods, strengthening market linkages, enhancing productivity through research and extension, and investing beyond the farm through a rural non-farm economy and a territorial development perspective.

Abstract

Learners around the world possess varying degrees of intelligence. With that, teachers should be aware of the multiple intelligence of the learners to consider them when preparing teaching materials or classroom activities. This is to aid the deteriorating performance of the learners specifically in language learning. As seen in the results of international assessments or even in national achievement tests, learners showed that they were not able to master the required competencies and one of the reasons is the ability to comprehend. This study aimed to determine the extent of use of the multiple intelligences of the Grade 11 students of Cainta Senior High School in the Division of Rizal which served as inputs in developing and evaluating technologically-mediated learning materials on discourse development patterns during the school year 2020-2021. With two groups of respondents, the students and the teachers, the developed material based on the multiple intelligence of the learners was evaluated in terms of authenticity, automaticity, clarity, comprehensibility, meaningfulness, and technicality. Using t-test, the gathered data was treated. The results revealed that there is no significant difference between the evaluation of students and teacher respondents whom both said that the technologically-mediated language learning material is very highly acceptable for teaching and learning the different discourse development patterns using the students’ multiple intelligences.

Abstract

Education is deemed to be an important tool for social mobility. Because of this, quality education is one of the many goals of Filipinos who wanted to have an improvement in their lives. However, one major issue in Philippine education is the poor academic performance of the students. Thus, this paper focuses on the profile of selected Grade 10 students of Bagong Silangan High School and its impact on their academic performance in Social Studies. The study utilized a descriptive research design. Pearson correlational statistical analysis was done to determine the relationship among variables. Results showed that most of the student respondents’ parents were high school graduates (43.81%), do not have occupation (57.78%), have family monthly income ranging from 10,000-19,999 (43.17%) and have 3 siblings (25.40%). Results also revealed that the extent of the factors affecting the academic performance of students in Social Studies in terms of teachers’ competency, learning environment, parents’ aspiration, student-parents relationship and peer relationship are all high. In addition, there is a moderate positive and negative correlation between the factors affecting the academic performance of students and their academic performance in Social Studies in terms of teachers’ competency, parents’ occupation, learning environment and peer relationship with Pearson r’s of 0.015,0.403, - 0.069 and -5984. An intervention program was recommended and prepared based on the results of the study.
