Abstract

Private high-school admission procedures frequently involve testing prospective students to determine their eligibility for enrollment, but this changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Numerous schools were adversely affected by the situation. To survive the economic crisis and declining enrollment among schools, many private schools altered their admissions policies. Even admission test providers have switched to online testing with increased prices of two to three times. The introduction of open admission did away with the requirement for an entrance exam but required applicants to submit their grades from the previous two academic years, which served as a benchmark for their potential academic performance in the school. The researcher used this chance to conduct a descriptive-correlational study to determine whether the grade-entry requirements can accurately predict the learners' academic performance. The general averages of the respondents for the previous two academic years were correlated with their general averages for the current academic year, which served as a quantitative representation of their academic performance at the school where they were admitted. The learners' grade-entry requirements revealed a statistically significant relationship between those averages and their academic performance in the school. Furthermore, the school of origin and initial admission status, whether qualified or waitlisted, were also correlated with their general averages, and it was found that only the latter has a statistically significant relationship with academic performance. The researcher suggested that grade-entry requirements could already be used as a reliable indicator of the prospective academic performance of admission applicants, even without an admission test.

Abstract

This study aims to determine physical and clay mineral properties of soils and how they affect the occurrence of erosion in the IAIN Campus Ambon. The results indicated that the two soil profiles shows a variety in soil properties. the largest distribution of soil particle density is 2.63 at soil layer P2L3 and the smallest is 2.26 at P1L1, the largest soil pore distribution is 60.12% at P2L1 and the smallest is 29.36% at P1L3, while the largest soil pores ratio distribution is 1.51% at P2L1 and the smallest is 0.42% at soil layer P1L3. The soil porosity reflects the level of the soil ability to pass water flow (permeability) or the speed of water flow to pass through the soil mass (percolation). By the decreasing of soil porosity and pore ratio in layers 3 and 4, the permeability is also slower. The major clay mineral found in both soil profiles is kaolinite, an unwell consolidated secondary clay mineral type 1:1 mixed with quartz, the most weathering resistant primary minerals. These two minerals have lower friction resistance due to the increasing of clay content in the lower soil profiles. The physical and hydrological soil properties as well as the presence of kaolinite and quartz in the lower soil layers are considered to be the cause of the erosion occurrence in the study area (IAIN campus).

The focus of this study is to analyze the resilience of rubber farmer households due to landslides in the lake village, Nalo Tantan sub-district, Merangin Regency, Jambi Province. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive type, and the informants of this study were carried out by purposive sampling. The informants of this research are rubber farmer households experiencing pressure from landslides. Data collection methods started from in-depth interviews, observation and document data collection. The unit of analysis in this study is at the household level, namely the rubber farmer household. Data analysis was carried out in several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data study and drawing conclusions, which were referred to in the Miles and Hubermen model. The results of this study indicate that the household life of rubber farmers is included in the lower middle economy . Rubber farmer households continue to survive driven by the lack of capital to find adequate housing to keep living. The problem found by researchers is that there are no other jobs or other skills owned by rubber farmers. The income of rubber farmers can be seen from the amount or nominal amount of money generated from the sale of rubber. The high and low prices of rubber greatly affect production

Abstract

This study investigated how hand tricks influenced the students' achievement in trigonometric ratios. Using a quasi-experimental design and purposive sampling, twenty students were the survey respondents: ten of whom took as a control group, and ten took as an experimental group. Through limited face-to-face classes, the researcher selected respondents from Grade 9 students at Bonifacio National High School. The research instruments used in this study are two sets of lesson plans, a pretest, and a post-test. The study revealed that the traditional method and hand tricks effectively teach trigonometric ratios. However, results also found that it was more effective to teach trigonometric ratios when using the hand tricks. The study concluded that the traditional and hand tricks were considered effective in teaching trigonometric ratios. Though, those students who participated in the use of hand tricks in teaching performed better in solving trigonometric ratios than those students who trained using the conventional method. The use of hand tricks helps students with difficulty in memorizing trigonometric ratios. The researcher recommended that we always use hand tricks in teaching trigonometric ratios. It is also recommended for complete and thorough teaching of mathematics topics throughout the year to reinforce mathematics teaching and learning. Moreover, hand tricks are used in learning trigonometric ratios and preparing for advanced trigonometric lessons.
