Abstract

The thin line between management from leadership inside an organization is something that many people in positions of power constantly face and experience. Leaders usually take on administrative obligations and carry out a number of administrative duties. On the other hand, leadership and administration are two unique, but complimentary, systems of activity. This study aimed to determine the level of Parish administration and Pastoral leadership of the clergy in the Diocese of Tagum. Findings of the study will serve as basis for the diocesan organizational development interventions program. The study utilized descriptive-correlational design as well as comparative design. The study was conducted among the ten parishes under the Diocese of Tagum for CY 2014. There were 593 respondents of the study comprising the clergy, parishioners, parish workers and apostolate. It employed a research instrument based on the framework of McKinsey’s 7S. The study employed frequency and percentage, pearson-r correlation and one-way analysis of variance to treat the data. Parish administration is very satisfactory. The vision and mission is also very satisfactory. The level of pastoral leadership is very satisfactory. There is interaction effectively with people, balancing positive regard for self with positive regard for others and working harmoniously with peers, superiors, and subordinates in the workplace, which is very satisfactory. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between parish administration and pastoral leadership. Also, there is a significant difference on pastoral leadership across clergymen. Parish administration has a significant effect on pastoral leadership. This means that improving parish administration improves the pastoral leadership.

Abstract

The Pandemic thrust the workforce in the private and public sectors into alternative work arrangements. For higher education institutions in the Philippines, it was a sudden shift to a flexible learning modality to ensure continuity of learning. This cross-sectional descriptive study assessed the readiness of 219 faculty and 69 staff in a local college for alternative work arrangements in terms of access to transportation, their health condition, information technology resources, connectivity, and their preferences in terms of alternative work arrangements. Results show that most respondents use public transportation to work and a minor percentage have medical conditions that make them susceptible to the COVID-19 virus. The top information technology (I.T) resources available to the respondents at home are smartphones/iPhones, laptops, and printers. Most have intermittent internet connectivity, with DSL/Fiber Connectivity and mobile data the most common types. Finally, the majority believe they can work from home, given the nature of their duties. However, more respondents prefer a hybrid work arrangement to a full-time work-from-home placement. The researchers presented some essential implications for a hybrid workforce model at the end of the paper.

Abstract

The study aimed to find ways to promote an intergenerational approach for inclusive, sustainable, and resilient pandemic recovery of the City of Malolos by assessing the current efforts of the city and the willingness to participate of four hundred selected citizens. The findings revealed that the City of Malolos has continuously worked to prevent and mitigate the virus while considering partnerships with non-governmental and private organizations, interagency collaborations, and community inputs. The study also revealed that respondents across different generations are willing to participate and collaborate with people from different age groups towards pandemic recovery: to voice out the needs and interests of people of their age and people younger than them; to understand and be understood; to feel a sense of fulfillment and community. The researchers suggested that the city should further encourage organization and cross-sectoral collaborations, promote understanding between generations, mobilize social media platforms, conduct educational forums, and apply intergenerational lenses to recognize challenges and opportunities concerning the pandemic.

Abstract

The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) becomes a global threat in March of 2020. Several countries were on lockdown. It affects health and results in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). During the quarantine and lockdown, the lack of freedom resulted to psychological consequences. In the Philippines, it was March 15, 2020 when the initial COVID-19 was instituted commonly recalled due to lockdown and canceled classes. Filipinos in general and students in particular were worried of their health information including vaccine availability, efficacy, and infection rates. Mental health is impaired by pandemic risks. UNICEF Philippines, then, advocated alternative and continuing learning. The major purpose of this research is to determine graduate students' levels of stress during the COVID-19 outbreak. The descriptive-correlational design was used for the quantitative investigation. The 150 responders are selected at random from Metro Manila master's degree students in the academic year 2022-2023. The adopted questionnaire consists of seven items that are multidimensional scales with psychometric qualities. Using chi-square, the findings revealed that, among demographic profiles, only age showed a significant relationship with the association of global stress. Thus, it can be stated that age is a crucial factor in assessing the global stress of graduate students. COVID-19 is more contagious in adults, reflecting their anxiety and stress during the epidemic.

Abstract

Kitchen practices such as sanitation and hygiene are crucial precautionary methods in preventing untoward accidents due to carelessness in the kitchen. This study aimed to determine the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) graduates’ kitchen sanitation and hygiene practices in school to their practices in the industry. There were sixty-seven HRM graduates of the College in Cagayan de Oro City employed in the different hotels, restaurants, and chains who participated as the participants of the study. A snowball sampling technique was used. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to generate the findings. Generally, results show that school kitchen practices have a minimal implication on HRM graduates’ real-life practices in the industry. Among the kitchen practices, only storage is significantly having an impact on HRM graduates’ practices in both school and industry. Thus, the findings of the study call for the need to intensify school kitchen teaching practices in actualizing real concepts and practices of the kitchen industry.

Abstract

The crab meat-picking industry has been recognized over the years worldwide. In this economy, women are well known as crab-pickers. They played crucial roles and faced a lot of challenges, yet their efforts to improve household food security are invisible and unrecognized. Hence, the study focused on the roles of women in the crab meat industry and their contributions to household food security and income in the Province of Masbate, Philippines. Through descriptive surveys and interviews, it was revealed that the majority of crab pickers are women with basic levels of educational attainment. Sixty-one to seventy percent (61%-70%) of the respondents rely solely on their household income for crab picking. Utilizing in-depth interviews, it was found out that respondents experienced crab-picking health-related problems, discrimination in recruitment, and staggering low wages. Therefore, even with the working conditions experienced by women, they greatly contribute to household income and food security in the area. It was deemed necessary to give emphasis to addressing challenges met by women through regular sanitary inspections by the authorities, revisiting recruitment policies in the industry, and imposing a minimum wage law to ensure that women contribute to and sustain household income.
