Abstract

Introduction:Tonsillectomy is the most common procedure performed to treat tonsillitis. One of the clinical manifestations of this procedure is pain which occurs mediator released during surgery stimulates pain nerve endings, so pain management is necessary. Objectives: The aims of this study to analyzed cold compresses to reduce pain intensity in post-tonsillectomy patients Methods: This research design was used a pre experiment with a one group pre test post test design approach, that conducted for months. July -August 2024, involving 17 post-operative patients in Room H2 RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya, using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Friedman Test. Results: The results showed that in the first 3 hours after tonsillectomy, the intensity of pain which was in range of 5-7 (median 6) decreased to 3-5 (median 3) after being given cold compress therapy for 10-15 minutes, with a p-value of 0.001 which indicated that this decrease is statistically significant. 3 hours after first intervention, pain intensity decreased again to 1-4 (median 3) after being given cold compress therapy, with a p-value (0.001). Conclusions: This indicates that cold compresses are effective in reducing pain consistently at different times after surgery. The use of cold compresses as a non-pharmacological pain management method may be considered as part of the post-operative care protocol

Abstract

Background : Anemia is a condition in which there is a reduced number of red blood cells or a lower concentration of hemoglobin within them. Injectable contraception is the most widely utilized hormonal option. Research clearly indicates that heavy or prolonged menstruation serves as a major trigger for iron deficiency anemia in women of childbearing age. The 1-month and 3-month injectable contraceptives contain hormones that notably affect menstrual patterns. This study aims to analyze the differences in the incidence of anemia between users of the 1-month and 3-month injectable contraceptives. Method : This research method is observational analytic design with a comparative approach. The number of sample is 62 injectable contraceptive users, selected through consecutive sampling techniques. Hemoglobin levels were carefully examined as the measurement instrument. Data analysis was conducted using the Independent sample t-test and Chi-Square. Results : The results clearly demonstrate that among users of the 1-month injectable contraceptive, the majority exhibited regular menstrual patterns (40.3%). In contrast, most users of the 3-month injectable method experienced secondary amenorrhea (43.5%). Additionally, a significant proportion of respondents were found to be non-anemic (64.5%). The Independent sample t-test revealed a p-value of 0.025 (p < 0.05). The chi-square test presented a p-value of 0.598 (>0.05). Conclusion : There is a difference in hemoglobin levels in acceptors of 1-month and 3-month injectable contraceptives. There is no difference in the incidence of anemia in acceptors of 1-month and 3-month injectable contraceptives.

Abstract

Hypertension during pregnancy is a significant health issue and one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among pregnant women worldwide, with higher prevalence in regions of high sodium intake. In Indonesia, hypertension during pregnancy poses serious challenges, especially in coastal areas where salted fish is a common dietary staple. Salted fish, preserved through processes that increase sodium levels, can raise blood pressure when consumed excessively, elevating the risk of hypertension in pregnant women. This study examines the relationship between salted fish consumption habits and the incidence of hypertension during pregnancy in coastal regions of Tuban. The research employed an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected from 99 pregnant women attending antenatal care (ANC) visits at several coastal community health centers, using consecutive sampling conducted from July 29 to August 16, 2024. Information was gathered through questionnaires and medical records. The independent variable in this study was the habit of consuming salted fish, while the dependent variable was the incidence of hypertension during pregnancy. Data were analyzed using Fisher's Exact test with a significance level of α=0.05. The results showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant relationship between salted fish consumption and hypertension in pregnancy. The findings demonstrate that more frequent consumption of salted fish correlates with a higher risk of developing hypertension during pregnancy. These results highlight the need for dietary management, particularly in coastal communities, to reduce sodium intake and lower the risk of hypertension, ultimately improving maternal health outcomes.

One of the contraceptive health services in this area is at Jagir Community Health Center. Objectives: This study aims to determine the differences in contraceptive use before and during the COVID-19 pandemic at Jagir Community Health Center. Methods: This research method is quantitative through an observational analytic design. The sample size was 269 acceptors with a sampling technique using total sample method from family planning acceptors at the Jagir Health Center for the period March 2019 - February 2021 which included inclusion criteria. Data collection using medical records. Results: The results showed that the majority of acceptors before and during the pandemic were 20-35 years old with parity ≤ 2. Based on the chi-square test, the difference in contraceptive use before and during the COVID-19 pandemic (p-value <0.05), where during the pandemic there was a decrease in non-MKJP acceptors and an increase in MKJP acceptors. Abstract

Introduction: Recurrent diarrhea occurs repeatedly within a short period, between one and three months or more than once per year. Diarrhea is a leading cause of toddler deaths globally, including in Indonesia with 100,000 deaths annually. Identifying factors predicting recurrent diarrhea significantly impacts prevention efforts. Objectives: This research aims to create a prediction model for the incidence of recurrent diarrhea in toddlers at the Tanah Kali Kedinding Community Health Center, Surabaya. Methods: This research method was a retrospective observational analytical study with a case-control design, involving 80 toddlers (40 case samples and 40 control samples) selected through purposive sampling. The independent variable was recurrent diarrhea in toddlers. The dependent variables were birth weight, nutritional status, measles immunization status, vitamin A suplementation, breastfeeding patterns, and mother's hand washing habits. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Data analysis used simple and multiple logistic regression. Results: The research showed that the incidence of recurrent diarrhea was related to malnutrition status (p = 0.008, OR = 20.184), measles immunization status (p = 0.029, OR = 9.599), breastfeeding pattern (p = 0.002, OR = 15.270), and maternal hand washing habits (p = 0.001, OR = 15.917). Meanwhile, factors that were not significantly related included birth weight (p = 0.397) and vitamin A suplementation (p = 0.456) Conclusions: Factors that influenced the formation of a prediction model for the incidence of recurrent diarrhea in toddlers were malnutrition status, measles immunization status, breastfeeding patterns, and mother's hand washing habits.

Abstract

The total number of TB cases in Indonesia is 969,000. This figure represents a 17% increase compared to 2020. SITB 2022 data shows there are 15,375 cases of co-infection of pulmonary TB with HIV. The treatment success rate for pulmonary TB co-infection with HIV in Indonesia in 2022 is 71%. This is still far from the national target of 90%.This case report discusses a 33-year-old man with pulmonary TB and TB lymphadenitis with HIV at clinical stage 4. The CD4 count was 10 cells/mm3. The degree of immunodeficiency suffered by this patient is severe immunodeficiency. The management was to administer OAT first, followed by ART within 2 weeks after OAT was administered and well tolerated. OAT was administered for 9 months due to the presence of TB lymphadenitis. Treatment evaluation showed clinical improvement and the patient did not develop IRIS. The incidence of IRIS in patients with TB is 8%-43%. Factors influencing the occurrence of IRIS include the CD4 count at the start of ART.
