Abstract

This study aims to develop a teaching module guidebook based on hypnoteaching and positive language as an affective learning strategy to improve student motivation at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 2 Kota Tegal. The research is motivated by the low learning motivation among fifth-grade students, as indicated by limited engagement, low affective expression, and challenges faced by teachers in creating an enjoyable classroom atmosphere. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach based on the Borg Gall model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, learning motivation questionnaires, and expert validation and product effectiveness tests. The findings reveal that prior to using the module, most students were in the low to moderate motivation categories. The developed guidebook integrates principles of hypnoteaching, including affirmation, relaxation, visualization, and the use of suggestive and affirmative language. Validation and effectiveness tests showed that the module is highly feasible and effective in enhancing student learning motivation. Therefore, this module offers a practical and inspiring solution for teachers in designing empowering, communicative, and affective-centered learning.

Abstract

Conditions in the field show that the level of student learning in elementary school is still relatively low. This condition is caused by the conventional learning model that does not provide opportunities for students to explore, as a result of which students become accustomed to relying on teachers who hinder their independent development. This study aims to examine whether innovative learning models can significantly increase the learning independence of elementary school students. The method used in this study is a literature study. This approach is carried out by browsing various literature related to student learning independence using innovative learning models. The results of the literature review show that various innovative learning models such as Project Based Learning (PjBL), Problem Based Learning (PBL), Discovey Learning, Flipped Classroom, Self Organized Learning Environments (SOLE), technology-based learning models and IT Media such as Augmented Reality, Numbered Heads Together, game-based learning models such as LEGO and Mission X, inquiry and problem-based learning models, roleplay models  and RADEC models are consistently effective in increasing student learning independence at various levels of education, especially in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of project-based learning (PjBL) in improving students' critical thinking skills. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with students and teachers, and analysis of learning documents. The results showed that PjBL significantly contributed to improving students' critical thinking skills, particularly in the aspects of information analysis, argument evaluation, and knowledge synthesis. Key findings revealed that the contextual and inquiry-oriented characteristics of PjBL were able to create learning experiences that encouraged students to actively engage in the process of inquiry, critical discussion, and authentic problem solving. Key factors for successful implementation included: (1) project design relevant to real life, (2) the role of teachers as effective facilitators, and (3) a collaborative learning environment. Identified obstacles were primarily related to students' readiness to manage independent projects and the need for appropriate scaffolding. Theoretically, these findings strengthen the constructivist basis of learning and emphasize the importance of a student-centered approach for the development of higher-order thinking skills. This study recommends the integration of PjBL into the curriculum by considering teacher training needs and adjusting implementation strategies according to the learning context. The research implications highlight the potential of PjBL as an innovative learning model to prepare students to face complex 21st century challenges.

Abstract

This research explores the use of irony in the film 500 Days of Summer (2009), directed by Mark Webb. Unlike typical romance films, this movie presents a non-linear narrative and avoids the usual happy ending, making it a rich subject for irony analysis. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study identifies and explains different types of irony found in the film, including dramatic, situational, verbal, etc. These ironic moments are key to understanding the development of the main character, Tom Hansen, whose expectations about love often clash with reality. Scenes such as “Expectations vs. Reality” and the unexpected meeting with Autumn illustrate how irony shapes the story and reflects Tom’s emotional journey. The findings show that irony is a powerful narrative device that adds depth to the film, challenges traditional ideas about romance, and helps the audience connect more deeply with the character’s experience. This study highlights how irony can be used in film to reveal personal growth and present a more realistic view of love.

Abstract

Grammar proficiency is vital for effective writing in English, particularly concerning the simple present tense in descriptive texts. While numerous studies have documented common grammatical errors, a gap exists in understanding the specific errors made by students at SMKN 5 Palu. This research aimed to identify and classify the types of errors made by tenth-grade students in their use of the simple present tense in descriptive texts and to determine the most prevalent error types. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach and Dulay's Surface Strategy Taxonomy, data were collected from 15 students through their written texts. The findings indicated that omission errors were the most frequent, accounting for 57.97% of total errors, followed by missordering errors at 8.70%. These results highlight significant challenges with subject-verb agreement and the correct application of auxiliary verbs. The study concludes that enhancing grammar instruction and incorporating error analysis can substantially improve students' writing proficiency. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in grammar education to address specific error patterns and enhance overall writing skills.

Abstract

Vocabulary development has a critical position in English language learning; however, numerous instructing practices need the connection between culture and ethical integration. Whereas folklore, particularly the story of Roro Jonggrang, offers ethical insights and cultural richness, its potential in vocabulary learning remains underexplored. This consideration points to examining how ethical values from the Indonesian stories of Roro Jonggrang can be coordinated into writing activities to upgrade students' English vocabulary acquisition. Applying qualitative descriptive methods, this study analysed the folklore content utilising content analysis to discover the ethical values and related vocabularies. The findings uncovered eight dominant ethical subjects, like honesty, hard work, humility, responsibility, respect, courage, justice, and wisdom. These topics give important vocabulary when consolidated into reflective writing tasks. The study concludes that writing activities based on the folklore of Roro Jonggrang upgrade vocabulary development and fortify character education, supporting a more relevant and values-driven approach to English learning.
