Abstract

The development of religious tourism at the Menara Kudus requires strategic support from the Kauman Tourism Village. Although it has strong cultural, historical, and religious potential, its management still faces limitations in human resources, suboptimal institutional coordination, and unsustainable utilisation of local potential. This study aims to analyse management, identify internal and external factors, and formulate strategies using SWOT analysis. The method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through observation, interviews with 10 informants, and documentation. The data were analysed using IFAS, EFAS, IE Matrix, and SWOT. The results show that Kauman Tourism Village is in Quadrant V (hold and maintain), indicating a stable condition with internal strengths and supportive external opportunities, but still requiring governance strengthening to avoid stagnation. Research findings confirm that the sustainability of tourist destinations is determined by the effectiveness of collaboration between the village government, Pokdarwis, area managers, and the community within the framework of community-based tourism. Priority strategies include strengthening institutions, enhancing human resource capacity, optimising digital promotion, and technology-based visitor management. This research contributes to strengthening a village tourism management model based on institutional collaboration to support sustainable religious tourism.

Abstract

Community-based tourism (CBT)-based tourism village development has become an important strategy in promoting sustainable tourism development by strengthening the role of local communities as the main stakeholders. However, the implementation of CBT still faces several challenges, particularly related to limited human resource capacity and suboptimal destination management. This study aims to formulate CBT-based human resource strengthening strategies to support the development of Tarabunga Tourism Village and to identify the destination’s development stage using the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) approach. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method using observation, in-depth interviews with nine informants, focus group discussions (FGDs) with fifteen people, and documentation techniques. Data were analyzed using the SOAR and TALC approaches. The findings reveal that Tarabunga Tourism Village possesses significant natural resource potential and opportunities for community-based economic development. However, the village still faces challenges, including limited human resource capacity, underdeveloped tourism attractions, and low levels of community participation. Based on the TALC analysis, Tarabunga Tourism Village is currently at the involvement stage. Therefore, strengthening human resources based on CBT is considered the main strategy for supporting sustainable tourism village development through community capacity building and strengthened stakeholder collaboration.

Abstract

Mass tourism has generated significant economic benefits but also triggered environmental degradation, cultural commodification, and social pressures on host communities, particularly in indigenous territories. In response to these challenges, this study examines slow tourism as a cultural safeguarding mechanism through an ethno-ecotourism based visitor education model in Saba Budaya Baduy, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative methodology grounded in the Design Thinking framework, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving customary leaders (Puun and Jaro), local guides, government officials, residents, and visitors. The findings show that visitor education transforms awareness, emotional engagement, and behavior in accordance with Baduy customary law (pikukuh). The saba budaya concept, regulated by Kanekes Village Regulation No. 1 of 2007, reframes tourism as a respectful cultural visit rather than a commercial activity. The zoning system between Outer and Inner Baduy also supports a structured, community-managed visitation model aligned with slow tourism principles. However, limited visitor awareness and insufficient dissemination of rules remain key challenges. This study concludes that slow tourism based on indigenous governance and ethno-ecotourism principles can strengthen cultural resilience if visitor education is enhanced and community authority is consistently maintained in tourism planning, management, and decision-making.

Abstract

The widespread adoption of social media has reshaped how travelers gather information and form travel intentions, particularly through the influence of travel influencers. As Indonesia promotes its super-priority tourism destinations, understanding this influence becomes increasingly relevant. This study examines the impact of travel influencers, modeled as a second-order construct with five dimensions: content expertise, inspiration, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and authenticity on travel intention. This study using a quantitative approach and data from 121 respondents collected via online survey. The analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that travel influencers significantly and positively influence travel intention to visit super-priority tourism destinations in Indonesia. Theoretically, this study contributes by offering a multidimensional conceptualization of travel influencers in tourism marketing research. Practically, it provides insight for tourism stakeholders and tourism marketers to collaborate with influencers who demonstrate credibility, inspiration, and authenticity in promoting super-priority tourism destinations in Indonesia.
