Abstract

Purpose. The project intends to use a qualitative approach to investigate the state and procedures of present transaction processes to pinpoint inefficiencies. Integrating ICT and coding solutions will be formulated and examined through prototyping to evaluate their feasibility and effectiveness. By concentrating on user behaviour and section-specific dynamics, the study offers a more analytical and data-driven approach to library management by leveraging Python's analytical capabilities and extracting quantitative data from transaction logs. Future funding can be directed towards required and necessary subjects by using library management's data to research trends and student requirements. This research can potentially transform library operations and ultimately enhance everyone's user experience for all.Methodology. The approach entails the utilization of ICT and programming to conduct a qualitative examination of data about the transaction aspects of publications. Results and discussion. By utilising ICT and coding, publication transaction data is consolidated efficiently in the preferred format, paving the way for advanced analytics and strategic insights with minimal human input.Conclusions. This study contributes to the examination, implementation, and consolidation of automated transaction recording across various sections of a library, with a prospective expansion towards integration with library management systems such as KOHA, Evergreen, Easylib, and Software for University Libraries (SOUL).

Abstract

Purpose. The purpose of this study is to obtain a description of the collaboration carried out by students participating in Library Internship Programs with the institutions where they undergo their internships. Methodology. Using an online questionnaire as the instrument distributed to students participating in internships, responses were received from students from 127 provinces in Indonesia. Results and discussion. The information gathered indicates that library internship activities already reflect a diversity of interests, competencies, and objectives as part of the library internship experience. There is alignment between the activities carried out and various aspects of library management, collection development, and the complexity of seeking career opportunities in the library field. Conclusions. An analysis of the collaboration strategy between students and practical institutions in determining the type of library practice reveals several important aspects. Students must have a clear understanding of the learning objectives and library practice requirements through constructive dialogue with the practical institution. They also need to build a professional network and participate in activities that broaden their understanding of various types of practices. However, the lack of variety in the scope of practices suggests the need for guidance or alignment activities before the practical placement is carried out, allowing students to choose a practice type that aligns with their mentor's educational background.

Abstract

Purpose. This research delves into the stereotype-laden environment faced by female librarians and the efforts undertaken to counteract these stereotypes. In situations where the worth or ability of an outgroup is questioned, stereotype lift makes people perform better.Methodology. This study utilized qualitative research with a single-case study approach. The participants of the study were five female librarians working within the Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines. The interview guide questions were used to gather their responses alongside observation and some documents. Permission from the school president was secured first before going to the library, which was also similarly done for online participants. The librarians were in terms of their physical characteristics, emotions, and how they catered to the patrons and researchers. In addition, ocular visits were conducted in which researchers took photos of what could help support the observation. After having the necessary data, Category Construction was utilized to analyze it.Results and discussion. The findings revealed the stereotypes the respondents received: stern and sedentary workers. These stereotypes unveiled how it affects their work performance by remaining unaffected and becoming more approachable. With these effects encountered, the female librarians were able to come up with two strategies for dealing with the stereotypes: remaining calm and positively changing oneself. The librarians also promoted equity, diversity, and inclusion by providing equal treatment to all and organizing a club for book lovers.Conclusions. The effect of stereotypes on librarians was not manifested since some of them perceived it as usual, while some let it change them to better librarians.

Abstract

Purpose. This research aims to investigate whether or not knowledge sharing would predict the intention to voluntarily leave a work place of librarians in private universities in southern states of Nigeria. Methodology. The survey research design of the correlational kind was used for this study to test the relationship between the variables. The sampling technique used total enumeration of the 308 librarians in all 46 private universities in Southern Nigeria. The instrument used was a questionnaire which was distributed physically and via Google Forms. The data analysis technique was simple statistics of percentages, mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) for the hypothesis. Results and discussion. The results showed that knowledge sharing level of the respondent was high, they shared knowledge using informal channels and face to face interactions accounted for occasions they shared knowledge. It was also revealed that the turnover intention of the librarians was high. The results of the correlation test revealed that there was a negative correlation between knowledge sharing and turnover intention. Conclusions. The research results concluded that there was a significance negative relationship between knowledge sharing and turnover intention. This indicates that when knowledge sharing is high, the turnover intention of the librarians will be low. Improving the knowledge sharing attitudes of librarians through formulation of knowledge sharing policies that encourage knowledge sharing practices will lead to a decrease in turnover intention of the librarians.

Abstract

Purpose. This article aims to design a security system for library circulation services based on facial recognition, focusing specifically on collection lending services. The proposed system seeks to usher libraries into a new era where efficiency and security are prioritized, while also serving as an example of innovation in modern library circulation security systems.Methodology. The system design follows an object-oriented approach, employing the UML language with activity diagrams and use case diagrams to model the processes. Results and discussion. The proposed system includes a use case diagram that outlines system activities and the relationships between actors and the system, as well as an activity diagram that details the structured flow of the book borrowing process, integrating facial recognition technology.Conclusions. Facial recognition is proposed as a means to enhance the security of library book borrowing processes by providing automatic, dual-layer identity verification. By implementing facial recognition in the circulation service security system, libraries are expected to prevent unauthorized access and misuse while improving service efficiency.
