Journal Lingua is focused on publishing the original research articles, review articles from contributors, and the current issues related to language and linguistics. The main objective of Lingua is to provide a platform for the international scholars, academicians, and researchers to share the contemporary thoughts in the fields of language, language teaching, and linguistics.It also aims to promote interdisciplinary studies in language, language teaching and linguistics and thus become the leading international journal in language, language teaching and linguistics in the world. The journal publishes research papers in the all the fields of language, language teaching, and linguistics such as, Phonetics and Phonology, Morphology, Lexicology, Syntax and Language Typology, Semantic, Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, Grammar Analysis, Historical Linguistics, Dialectology and Language Evolution, Applied Linguistics, Biolinguistics, Clinical Linguistics, Neurolinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Forensic Linguistics, Language Teaching, Language Development, Translation, and other related studies of language. Since 2017, all papers submitted to the journal should be written in good English. Authors for whom English is not their native language are encouraged to have their paper checked before submission for grammar and clarity. English language and copyediting services can be provided by English Faculty . The work should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The official language of the manuscript to be published in journal Lingua is English. Lingua Journal is published two times a year by English Education Study Program Faculty of Teaching and Educational Sciences As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University of Jakarta. The journal welcomes articles on English language teaching and research. Articles should be in English, typed double-spaced on quarto-size paper. Until these days, the possibility of face-to-face teaching learning process in any universities is quite low. Therefore, the need of online learning materials for online or/and blended learning is inevitable. The present research aimed to develop an onlinebook for Reading 1 course at 3 universities in Lamongan. Unlike other online ELT books which is western-oriented, this online course book was developed based on Lamongan-Javanese’ local wisdom. A total of 135 freshmen and 3 lecturers were involved as the subjects. The results of need analysis showed that 1) the freshmen have positive attitude towards English reading even though they confronted by some problems, 2) the lecturers seemed to have different interpretations on their freshmen’ reading preferences, and 3) the students’ reading comprehension level needed to be improved. A number of implications regarding these findings were discussed as well in this research.

As language scholars, have you heard the word ‘metalanguage’? and how about the effect of using metalanguage? The current study aimed to investigate the categories of metalanguage in grammar exam. A total of 17 master students in TEFL were voluntarily recruited as the subjects. Their exams were analyzed in detail to collect the data. The researchers conducted a qualitative inquiry called content analysis. The result exposed that the students produced two categories of metalanguage namely technical and non-technical metalanguage. Based on its frequency, technical metalanguage was produced much more frequently than non-technical metalanguage. Both categories of metalanguage affected students’ cognition. However, technical metalanguage ‘drained’ their cognition a lot more while they were not aware about it.

Abstract This research is aboutTed Talk application that support the students being smart people by smartphone. TED Talk applications can help the students in learning English for four skills such as reading writing listening and speaking. This app offers kids and parents the opportunity to explore and view videos from the renowned TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conferences, which feature a mix of interesting speakers from all walks of life. The researcher believes that this application can support the students being smart people by smartphone. The purpose of this research is to support the students being smart people by their smartphone using TED Talk application. This research did about six months in As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University. The participants in this research are 20 college students on fifth semester in speaking for academic purposes subject. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The instruments that used in this research are interview and observation. And based the data, the researcher can conclude that using TED Talk as application that support the students being smart people by smartphone is very useful for all students. The students can increase their knowledge and skills in English. They can watch videos or listening audio to get some ideas for speaking practice.

This study attempts to investigate the effect of the blended learning approach on student’s vocabulary achievement. The methodology of this study used Quasi experiment method and randomized post-test only control group design. A sample were 60 grade ten students of SMK Bina Insan Kamil, Bekasi where divided two experiments and control group which the experiment tough by a blended learning approach, and control group learned the same vocabularies trough conventional way. Analyze of the instrument in this study in items of validity, reliability, difficulty index and discrimination power used SPSS and analyze the data used T-test to know whether the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted or rejected. The result of this study showed that there was a significant effect of blended learning approach on student’s vocabulary achievement. The significant (Sig) score of 0.003 is smaller than (<) 0.05. So that this study has a significant effect of blended learning on student’s vocabulary achievement. Moreover, the approach of blended learning enhances their motivation to learn vocabularies in the learning process.

Abstract The study is classroom action research. It is conducted at Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu.The subject of the research is eight students of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu. The objectives of the research are: 1) to know how macromedia flash player can improve students’ reading skill at eight year of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu; 2) to know how is the classroom situation when macromedia flash used in teaching reading at eight year of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu. The research is conducted in two cycles. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. To colect the data, the writers employ observation, interview and test. In the meantime, to analize the data, the writers make use of some steps: (1) Data Reduction (2) Data Display (3) Data Conclusion. The result of the research indicates that there is an improvement on students’ reading skill; (1) the students are able to identify the specific information of the text; (2) the students are able to identify the purpose of the text; (3) the students are able to identify the generic structure of the text. The students’ scores are as follow: The average of pre test is 51,46%. The average of post test 1 is 69,59% and the average of post test 2 is 82,34%. Therefore, it can be concluded that, teaching reading using macromedia flash player is quiet effective for the eight year students of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu.

Slang, either the form or the meaning is flexible and temporary, which canchange anytime depending on the user. This phenomenon also occurs in the trendy slang used by Gen Z. Therefore, this study aims to find out the types of word formation process in Gen Z slang. It focuses only on Gen Z slang that is in Callahan's Generation Z Dictionary. Further, this study is corpus-based, using qualitative analysis in investigating the types of word formation process in Gen Z slang. To analyze the corpus, there are two steps used that are classifying and interpreting. The finding reveals that there are eight types of word formation process, which influence in forming the Gen Z slang. Those types are fanciful formation, compounding, blending, clipping, conversion, suffixation, multiple process, and reduplicatives. Among those types, compounding is the most used. There are ten slang terms come through this types of process and this study presents all types of compounding. Those types are compound noun with one slang term, compound adjective with five slang terms, and compound verb with four slang terms. In conclusion, Gen Z slang is formed through eight types of the word formation process and compounding is the most used.

This study aims to know the English proficiency of tourist actors in Klaten. The data of this research consist of primary data and secondary data. Primary data are the data gotten from English proficiency of tourist actors in Klaten, especially in speaking skill. Meanwhile, secondary data are the data from the tourism department of Klaten. This research method is descriptive quantitative. The subjects of this study are tourist actors in temple and water tourist spots in Klaten, which consists of officers, sellers, parking attendants, security, and other tourist actors. The temple tourist spots are Plaosan temple and Sojiwan temple. Meanwhile, the water tourist spots are Umbul Ponggok and Umbul Cokro (OMAC). The choice of those spots is depended on the most foreign tourists among that type of tourist destinations. The result of the study shows that the English proficiency of tourist actors in temple tourist attractions is higher (50%) than water tourist attractions (8,33%). In temple tourist attractions, tourist actors who have high English proficiency is 50%, average is 37.5%, low is 12.5%. In water tourist attractions, tourist actors who have high English proficiency is 8.33%, average is 29.16%, low is 62.5%. This study also got other data that tourist actors in Klaten have important role to support tourism industry in Klaten to attract tourists, both domestic and foreign, but their awareness of it is still low. Most of them still rely on domestic tourists than foreigners.

This research is about An Analysis of Reading Literacy for College Students through Webtoon as Interactive Learning. Webtoon is one of a way aimed to interest students in reading literacy. The purpose of this research is to know whether the use of webtoon can be interactive learning and increase reading literacy. Also, this research was conducted by using qualitative data with descriptive analysis approach and triangulation data. The subject of this research was the 3rd semester of As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University 2020/2021 academic year which consisted of 20 students and take 5 students randomly. The data were gathered through observations and interviews of the instrument. The technique of data analysis in this study is thematic analysis through the answer of interview questions then the transcript to gain the topic to become a theme. The theme used to be analyzed as a result of this study. Based on the data, the result of this research showed that webtoon can be interactive learning and increase the reading literacy of students. Learning using the webtoon more simple and easy access. In other words, webtoon can be more interested in increase reading literacy for students.

This research is analyzes morphological awareness in reading comprehension. The purpose of this research was to analyze the morphology of students' reading comprehension, to identify the types of morphological processes in reading comprehension and to describe the morphological processes in reading comprehension. The method is used in this research is qualitative method. During the current Pandemic, researchers decided to conduct research online through the Zoom application, this research was conducted by examining Jayabaya University students. There were 6 correspondents from the first semester students from several study programs to be given learning material and interviews. In this study, there are two types of instruments used, namely morphological tests and interviews. The way to obtain the results of this research is to analyze morphological awareness in reading comprehension using morphological test instruments and structured interviews. After being given an understanding of morphology, students can take a morphological awareness test in reading comprehension. The results of each student showed a fairly good percentage with the average score they got, namely 92.34.

Reading is a must skill for the students no matter the level of proficiency, Reading skill that is used in all subject in the school, using reading they can understand what they learn and obtain information about subject that help develop their skills. In this term reading strategies play an important role in defining the success of reading. Many researchers have found that reading by using strategies are able to help students to read effectively and efficiently, this issue is very interesting because success in reading is supported by the strategies the reader uses when reading. Therefore, the researcher is interested in finding out what reading strategies high school students use. The aim of this study is to examine the reading strategies used by Senior High School students while comprehending descriptive text and their perception about reading strategy. The research design was qualitative approach based on the theory of case study. The informant consist of five students of tenth grade Senior High School. Observation and individual interviews are instruments used by the researcher to collect data, then the data is analyzed by triangulation, which consists of reduction data, display data and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that there were 7 strategies used by participants namely repeated reading, taking notes, imagine the content, summarizing, bottom up, guessing, getting the purpose of reading, each participant uses more than one strategy in reading, The result also showed that the strategies the students used while reading greatly helped them understand the text and made the reading process more effective and efficient.
