Abstract

Abstract: The researchers offer some techniques to be applied in speaking class; they are STAD and TGT technique. The problem formulations of this research are; (1) Is there any difference influence of STAD and TGT techniques toward students’ speaking performance at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Pagar Dewa?; (2) Which one is more effective between STAD and TGT techniques toward students’ speaking ability at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Pagar Dewa?. The research design of this research is True Experimental Design. The population of this research is all of the students of SMA N 1 Pagar Dewa which consists of eighteen classes with total students are 544 students. The researchers take 58 students from the total population as the sample, where 29 students are in experiment class and 29 students are in control class that be matched based on the students level of speaking ability. The researchers use Cluster Stratified Random Sampling as technique of sampling. To analyze data, the researchers use ttest formula. Based on the result of this research and the result of criteria of the hypothesis on the table, the result shows that tCount = 2,8126; moreover the researcher looked at ttable for α = 1% shows ttble = 2.70 and for α = 5% shows ttable = 2.02 or it means tcount>ttable. It is obtained that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. It means that there is the difference influence of STAD and TGT technique toward students’ speaking ability and also it means that STAD technique is more effective than TGT technique toward students’ speaking ability. But as the conclusion, both of these techniques are effective to be applied in teaching speaking for the SMA N 1 Pagar Dewa.Keywords: STAD Techniqe, TGT Technique, Speaking Ability

Abstract

Grammatical cohesion is the combination of sentences that formed by grammatical aspect. Language can produce two kinds there are spoken and written The objectives of this research are to describe the types of reference and subtitution and discover the most frequently types of reference and subtitution that used in The Jakarta Post news. Grammatical cohesion is the object of this research. The news in The Jakarta Post is the subject of this research. The method of this research is Qualitative research. The result of this study are found 436 of grammatical cohesion consist of reference were 434 data, and substitution are 2 data. The most frequently types of using grammatical cohesion is demonstrative reference with the percentage 60.80% of. The used of grammatical cohesion are personal reference showed of 27.80 % data, comparative reference showed of 11% data, nominal substitution showed of 0.20% data, verbal substitution found of 0.20% data and causal substitution with the percentage 0%. Based on the data it can be concluded that in The Jakarta Post found all the grammatical cohesion except causal substitution.

Abstract

This research is carried out to (1) identify whether graphic organizers can improve students’ reading comprehension; and (2) to describe the classroom situation when graphic organizers are employed in instructional process of reading comprehension. The research is adminisitered in two cycles 2014 in the second grade of SMP Muhamadiyah Sekampung, Lampung Timur. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. Qualitative data are collected through interview, observation, questionnaire, and research diary. Quantitative data are collected through test. To analyze qualitative data, the researcher used constant comparative method. It consists of four steps: (1) comparing incidents applicable to each category; (2) Integrating categories and their properties; (3) delimiting the theory; (4) Writing the theory. Meanwhile, to analyze quantitative data, the researcher employed descriptive statistic.    The result of the research shows that using graphic organizers can improve students’ reading comprehension and classroom situation. The improvement on students’ reading comprehension is students are able to find explicit information in a text. The improvement of the classroom situation; (a) students come on time in the class (b) students are more motivated to join the class (c) Students pay more attention in the instructional process. In addition, the improvement also happens to the scores. The mean score increases from 57.56 in the pre-test, 63.34 in the formative test of cycle 1, and 69.56 in the post test of cycle 2

Abstract

The study is to find out whether skimming technique enhance students’ reading comprehension at English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Metro, Academic Year 2015/2016. This research is conducted at English Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The population of the research is the students of English department, while the sample of the research is the students at fourth semester of English department Muhammadiyah University of Metro. To determine the sample, the researcher employs purposive technique sampling. Then, To collect the data, the researcher used documentation, Observation, Interview and questionnaire. Furthermore, to analyze the data, the researcher apply some steps: (1) data reduction, (2) data display and (3) data conclusion. The result of research indicates that the skimming technique has significant contribution to students’ reading comprehension at fourth semester of English Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Metro.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of the research is to know whether there is influence of using Number Head Together technique toward students’ reading comprehension. The subjects of thisresearch are two classes consist of 26 students of class X1 as experimental group and 27 students of class X2 as control group. The design of this research is quasi experimental design. In collecting the data, the researchers use a test. The test consits of pre-test and post-test. To analyze data, the researcher uses ttestformula. The result of the research shows that tcount =3,81 and  tdaf 2,70  (on criteria 1) and tdaf =2,02 (on criteria 2). So, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and  the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that there is influence of using Number Head Together technique toward students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Batanghari Academic Year 2014/2015.Key words: Number Head Together Technique, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. Qualitative data are collected through interview, observation, questionnaire, and research diary. Quantitative data are collected through test. To analyze qualitative data, the researcher used constant comparative method. It consists of four steps: (1) comparing incidents applicable to each category; (2) Integrating categories and their properties; (3) delimiting the theory; (4) Writing the theory. Meanwhile, to analyze quantitative data, the researcher employed descriptive statistic.   The result of the research shows that using graphic organizers can improve students’ reading comprehension and classroom situation. The improvement on students’ reading comprehension included; (a) students are able to find explicit information in a text; (b) students are able to comprehend of the text; (c) Students are able to find main idea in a paragraph; (d) students are able to infer the meaning of the text. The improvement of the classroom situation; (a) students come on time in the class (b) students are more motivated to join the class (c) Students pay more attention in the instructional process (d) students’ participation in responding the questions are high. In addition, the improvement also happens to the scores. The mean score increases from 57.56 in the pre-test, 63.34 in the formative test of cycle 1, and 69.56 in the post test of cycle 2. The mean score of writing is higher than the writing KKM (Kriteria Kelulusan Minimal) which is 63.  Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that students’ reading comprehension could be improved by the implementation of graphic organizers. Therefore, it is recommended that (1) teacher should give the explicit model during implementing graphic organizers in teaching reading; and (2) teachers need to improve their acquisition of knowledge about graphic organizers through collaboration with other teachers.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research are to find out whether, the result of students’ score by using Think Pair Share Technique maximal, the result of students’ score by using Pairs Check Technique maximal and students’ score of Writing Ability in Recount Text, how far the result of Influence of  Using Think Pair Share and Pairs Check Tehnique toward Students Writing Ability in Recount Text. This research is Quantitative research. Research design that will be used in this research is true experimental design. The population of this research is the students’ of SMP N 2 Pekalongan in 2013/2014 that consist of 603 students. The sample is 60 students. As the sample, 30 as experimental class and 30 as  control class. In taking sample, the researcher used the cluster random sampling. The data collecting tehniques the researcher used are try-out, pre-test, treatment and post-test. The data analyzing tehniques, the researcher used normality test, homogenity test and hypothesis test. The differences of both the tehnique are TPS Tehnique can make students enjoy and fun in learning process because it is adopted by Share and can make students be active in learning. Based on the data analysis, the researcher uses t-test formula. The researcher got the result of tobserved = 2.78 and ttable is 2.00. it means that tobserved > ttable. And the criterion of ttest is Ha accepted if tobserved > ttable . So, there is differences between using TPS and Pairs Check tehnique toward students’ writing ability in recount text at the students of SMP N 2 Pekalongan in academic year 2013/2014.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to know whether there is influence of Time Token method toward students’ speaking ability. The research design of this research is Quantitative Design. The population of this research is 625 students. It consists of 21 classes and average of each class consists of 32 students. The researchers conducted the research at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Batanghari. The researcher took 64 students from the total population as the sample. This research takes two classes: they are experimental class and control class. In Colleting the data, the researcher used test. The test comprised two tests: pre test and post test. To analyze data, the researcher used ttest formula. The result of the study showed that tcount5,37 and tdaf is 2,00 (on criteria1) and 2,66 (on criteria 2). It means that tcount >tdaf. And the criteria of tcount is Ha accepted if tcount>tdaf.

Abstract

This study is classrom action research. It is carried out at SMP N 2 Metro in Academic Year of 2017/2018. The objectives of the research: (1) to find out whether guided question technique can increase the students’ writing skill in descriptive text; (2) to describe the process of teaching writing using guided question technique. The population of the research is the seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Metro in academic year 2017/2018 that consist of 32 students. The research is conducted in two cycles. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. Qualitative data are collected through interview, observation. In the meantime, quantitative data are collected through test. To analyze qualitative data, the researchers use miles and huberman model. It consists of three steps: data reduction, data display and data conclusion. Meanwhile, to analyze quantitative data, the researchers employ descriptive statistic. The result of the research indicates that the implementation of guided question technique improved the students’ writing skill in descriptive text. The average score of pre-test is 56. In the cycle 1, the researchers giving the treatment and get the students’ average score of post-test 1 is 69,23. After applying the revised planning in cycle 2, the average students’ score in post-test 2 is 76. It has reached 75% of 32 students that indicated the students passed the criterion of success. The result of students’ participation in cycle 1 and cycle 2 did a significant progress and improves in every meeting of each cycle. In addition, the use of guided questions technique is able to increase the students’ writing skill in descriptive text. The research has some suggestions; for the English teacher, it is useful to implement guided questions technique as one alternatives teaching, for the students it can be used to make the students easier in writing a text and for the further researcher this study can be used as a reference.

Abstract

Abstract The study is classroom action research. It is conducted at Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu.The subject of the research is eight students of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu. The objectives of the research are: 1) to know how macromedia flash player can improve students’ reading skill at eight year of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu; 2) to know how is the classroom situation when macromedia flash used in teaching reading at eight year of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu. The research is conducted in two cycles. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. To colect the data, the writers employ observation, interview and test. In the meantime, to analize the data, the writers make use of some steps: (1) Data Reduction (2) Data Display (3) Data Conclusion. The result of the research indicates that there is an improvement on students’ reading skill; (1) the students are able to identify the specific information of the text; (2) the students are able to identify the purpose of the text; (3) the students are able to identify the generic structure of the text. The students’ scores are as follow: The average of pre test is 51,46%. The average of post test 1 is 69,59% and the average of post test 2 is 82,34%. Therefore, it can be concluded that, teaching reading using macromedia flash player is quiet effective for the eight year students of Junior High School of PGRI 4 Labuan Ratu.
