Abstract

Green spinach (Amaranthus hybridus L.) is a high-value leafy vegetable commodity that requires optimal nutrient availability from the early stages of growth. Utilizing vegetable waste as liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) with EM4 and molasses bioactivators serves as an alternative solution for sustainable cultivation.  This study aimed to analyze the physical characteristics of vegetable waste LOF under various EM4 and molasses concentrations, and to evaluate the effect of its application dosage on the vegetative growth and physiological components of green spinach. The research was conducted from February to June 2026 using a Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was the type of LOF based on EM4 and molasses concentrations (P1: 0 ml, P2: 20 ml, P3: 40 ml, P4: 60 ml). The second factor was the LOF application dosage (D1: 15 ml L⁻¹ dan D2: 30 ml L⁻¹). The results indicated that increasing EM4 and molasses concentrations altered the LOF color to dark brown and intensified the fermented tape-like aroma, while maintaining a stable temperature (33,29–34,08°C). Variations in the LOF type exerted no significant effect on any growth parameters of the spinach. Conversely, the application dosage factor had a significant independent effect during the early growth phase (21 days after planting / DAP). The 15 ml L⁻¹ (D1) produced a significantly higher number of leaves, leaf area (11,32 cm²), fresh weight (0.45 g), dry weight (0.035 g), Relative Growth Rate/RGR (0,74 g g⁻¹ day⁻¹), and Net Assimilation Rate/NAR (0,0075 g cm⁻² day⁻¹) compared to the 30 ml L⁻¹ dosage (D2).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing strategy of upland water spinach cultivated using organic fertilizer in Sidokaton Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency. The research used a descriptive quantitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The respondents consisted of 46 farmers who cultivate upland water spinach using organic fertilizer. Data analysis was conducted using SWOT analysis supported by Internal Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) and External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS), while strategy prioritization was determined using the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). The analysis shows that the business's main strengths lie in product quality, efficient production costs, and mastery of cultivation techniques. Meanwhile, key weaknesses include low product shelf life and distribution effectiveness. Externally, business opportunities are supported by increasing consumer awareness of healthy vegetable consumption, local market potential, and marketing partnership opportunities, while the main threats come from price competition and climate change. The SWOT matrix results yielded four alternative strategies: SO, WO, ST, and WT. Based on the QSPM analysis, the SO strategy, which involves optimizing production quality and efficiency to capitalize on market opportunities, achieved the highest Total Attractiveness Score (TAS) of 3.50, making it a priority strategy. The research findings indicate that improving product quality and production efficiency are key factors in enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of horticultural businesses. This research is expected to inform strategic decision-making in the development of sustainable agribusiness-based agricultural businesses.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the application of inorganic fertilizer and goat manure liquid organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of mustard greens (brassica juncea L). In this study using a factorial random group design (RAK), there are two factors used. The first factor is the application of chemical fertilizers which are divided into three categories; A0 (without chemical fertilizer), A1 with a dose of 4 grams per plot (100%), and A2 with a dose of 2 grams per plot (50%). The second factor is the provision of goat manure poc; K0 (without POC), K1 (50 ml/L), K2 (100 ml/L) and K3 (150 ml/L). The data collected was analyzed through ANOVA to understand the significant differences between treatments, then continued with testing to determine the Smallest Real Difference (BNT) at the level of 5%. The results of the study showed that the use of inorganic fertilizers had an impact on the number of leaves, leaf area, dry weight, and fresh weight of the plant, where the A2 treatment with a dose of 50% gave better results than other treatments. Meanwhile, the POC effect of goat manure plays a role in determining plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, dry weight, and fresh weight, where the K2 treatment shows better results than other treatments. The interaction between inorganic fertilizer and goat manure POC significantly affected the accumulation of plant biomass at 21 days postplanting (HST), with A2K2 treatment (50% inorganic fertilizer + 100 mL/l POC) resulting in the highest dry weight compared to other treatments. Treatments that applied entirely inorganic fertilizers (A1) combined with POC at doses of 100 ml/L (A1K2) or 150 ml/L (A1K3) showed dry weight that did not show a significant difference when compared to treatments using 100% inorganic fertilizers without POC (A2K0). Therefore, the use of POC provides an opportunity to reduce the dose of inorganic fertilizers by up to 50% in caisim plants.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of organic inducer biomass and Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Fungi (AMF) on the vegetative growth of Cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens l.). The study was conducted in Cupak Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency, April to July 2025. The research method used was a non-factorial randomized block design (RAK) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments tested consisted of negative control (k-), positive control (k+), and a combination of BIO (organic fertilizer made from bamboo leaves, goat manure, rice husks, and EM4) and AMF, namely P1 (75% bio + 25% soil + AMF), P2 (50% bio + 50% soil + AMF), and P3 (25% bio + 75% soil + AMF). The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, length and fresh weight of roots. Data were analyzed using ANOVA test and continued with Tukey test at 5% level for significant difference test. The results showed that the application of BIO and AMF significantly increased the height of chili pepper plants at 35 and 42 days after planting (DAP). Treatment P3 produced the best results, with plant height reaching 17.9 cm at 42 DAP, a highly significant difference compared to the other treatments. Leaf number, length, and root fresh weight showed a trend toward increasing, but statistical analysis showed no significant differences (p > 0.05). The results indicated that the combination of BIO and AVM has the potential to increase the vegetative growth of chili pepper, particularly plant height compared to the control

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the income level and financial feasibility of rice farming in Kepuhdoko Village, Tembelang District, Jombang Regency. Rice farming is the primary livelihood of most rural communities and plays a significant role in supporting household income. However, farmers face various challenges such as rising production costs, limited labor, and fluctuating selling prices. This research employed a survey method with a simple random sampling technique involving 30 rice farmers. Primary data were collected through structured interviews, while secondary data were obtained from related institutions and literature. Data analysis included production cost analysis, revenue analysis, income calculation, and business feasibility using the Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio). The results indicate that the average total revenue per planting season is IDR 15,771,609 with total production costs of IDR 3,310,455, resulting in a net income of IDR 12,461,154 per season. The R/C Ratio value of 4.95 shows that rice farming in the study area is economically feasible and highly profitable. These findings confirm that small-scale rice farming remains financially viable when managed efficiently and supported by good productivity and favorable market prices. Keywords: Income; Feasibility; Rice Farming; R/C Ratio

Abstract

The ability of farmers to apply efficient and sustainable agricultural techniques depends critically on their knowledge and abilities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate shallot farmers' knowledge and abilities in Pucang Simo Village, Jombang, Indonesia. Thirty shallot farmers were chosen from a population of 150 farmers to participate in a descriptive quantitative study. Questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation were used to gather data.The research instrument was tested using Pearson's Product-Moment validity test and Cronbach's Alpha reliability test. Of the 30 questionnaire items, 23 were found to be valid (r-count > 0.374), while the instrument demonstrated high reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.915. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to determine the mean scores of farmers' knowledge and skills based on their educational level. The results showed that farmers generally possessed high levels of knowledge and skills across all educational groups. Mean knowledge scores ranged from 2.48 to 3.00, while mean skill scores ranged from 2.00 to 3.00 on a three-point Likert scale. Although most respondents had completed only elementary education, they demonstrated a high level of competence in implementing shallot farming practices. These findings suggest that practical farming experience and continuous learning may help strengthen farmers' competencies regardless of their formal educational background. The study provides useful insights for agricultural extension programs aimed at improving farmers' knowledge and technical skills to support sustainable shallot farming.

Abstract

Mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana L.) is an agricultural waste product that has the potential to be used as a natural additive in food products because it contains natural pigments and various bioactive compounds. This study aims to determine the effect of adding mangosteen peel extract on the organoleptic characteristics of putu ayu cake, including color, texture, taste, and aroma, and to determine the treatment that produces the best organoleptic characteristics. The study used a quantitative experimental approach with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of three treatments, namely P, Q, and R, with three replications. Organoleptic testing was conducted using the hedonic test method involving 15 untrained panelists. The research data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of 5% and continued with the Least Significant Difference Test (LSD) of 5% if there were significant differences between treatments. The results showed that the addition of mangosteen peel extract had an effect on the level of panelists' preference for the organoleptic characteristics of putu ayu cake. Based on the determination of the best treatment in the draft, treatment R obtained the highest value in the color parameter of 11.93, texture of 12.00, taste of 12.47, and aroma of 13.00. Thus, treatment R was declared the best and most acceptable treatment by the panelists. This study shows that mangosteen peel extract has the potential to be used as a natural additive in the development of putu ayu cake products while increasing the added value of mangosteen peel waste.

Abstract

To identify the effectiveness of introducing liquid organic fertilizer (POC) made from banana stems, this study examined the dynamics of several shallot vegetation indicators, including plant height, leaf quantity, and fresh weight. The study was conducted from October to December 2025 at the experimental site in Denanyar Village, Jombang Subdistrict, Jombang Regency, East Java. This study employed a quantitative methodology based on a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This method applied six treatments: P0 (Control), P1 (Application of 75 ml/L banana stem POC), P2 (application of 150 ml/L banana stem POC), P3 (application of 225 ml/L banana stem POC), P4 (application of 300 ml/L banana stem POC), and P5 (application of 375 ml/L banana stem POC). The application of banana stem liquid organic fertilizer (POC) was found to have no significant effect on the vegetative performance of shallot plants. This was confirmed by an analysis of variance (ANOVA) on the parameters of plant height (calculated F = 1.10 < 5% critical F = 2.38), leaf area (calculated F = 0.53 < 5% critical F = 2.38), and fresh weight (calculated F = 1.16 < 5% critical F = 2.38), where all calculated F values did not exceed the critical F threshold at the 5% significance level. The absence of these statistical differences confirms that the application of liquid organic fertilizer has not yet been able to significantly influence plant growth dynamics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze production costs, revenue, and income of shallot farming in Kedungjati Village. The research method used is a quantitative descriptive method with a census sampling technique involving 30 shallot farmers. The data used in this study consist of primary data obtained through direct interviews using questionnaires, and secondary data obtained from related institutions. This study aims to analyze shallot farming in Kedungjati Village, covering production costs, revenue, income, and financial feasibility. The results indicate that the total production cost incurred by farmers per planting season—comprising fixed and variable costs—averaged Rp24,862,000, with variable costs (specifically seeds and labor) constituting the largest share of the cost structure. Farming revenue was derived from an average production of 1,800 kg sold at Rp20,000/kg, resulting in total revenue of Rp36,000,000 per planting season. Farming income—calculated as the difference between revenue and total production costs—amounted to Rp11,138,000 per planting season. The financial feasibility analysis yielded an R/C ratio of 1.45 (>1), indicating that the shallot farming operation is viable for development; as it generates revenue exceeding the costs incurred, the business is considered to provide added value and holds good prospects for continuation.
