Abstract

Symbols are important elements that are often used in everyday life. The Qur'an contains many messages which are depicted using certain symbols. The current reality is that there are still many who do not know and understand the symbols used in the Koran. This research will explore and discuss the use of flora symbols used in the Qur'an. These symbols are important to know and understand with the aim of understanding the messages contained in the Qur'an. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type. Data analysis in this research uses the triangle meaning semiotic theory from Carles Sanders Peirce's perspective. After carrying out the analysis, this research found that there are 25 verses in the Qur'an that use flora symbols, which are divided into 2 classifications, namely general and specific symbol mention classifications. Which is divided into 3 general mentions of floral symbols and 7 specific mentions of floral symbols. The symbols mentioned are generally used in the Qur'an to show God's power and mercy in everything that has been created. Meanwhile, the Qur'an uses specific mention of flora symbols to show the benefits of flora in the continuity of human life.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the contributions of classical and contemporary Qur'anic interpretations to environmental ethics and to evaluate their relevance and application in the context of modern environmental challenges. Employing a qualitative analysis, the study reviews key interpretations from eminent scholars such as Imam Ar-Razi, Al-Maraghi, and M. Quraish Shihab. The analysis is grounded in their exegeses of specific Qur'anic verses related to environmental stewardship, integrating both classical and contemporary perspectives. The interpretations collectively underscore the Qur'anic advocacy for an integrated approach to environmental care, emphasizing balance, justice, and the moral implications of human interactions with the environment. Imam Ar-Razi's interpretations highlight the spiritual causation of environmental harm, while Al-Maraghi and Shihab focus on the principles of balance and justice as central to ecological stewardship. The study reaffirms that Qur'anic teachings provide a profound ethical framework for addressing the environmental crisis, advocating for a holistic approach that incorporates spiritual, moral, and practical dimensions. These findings suggest the need for greater integration of religious teachings in environmental education and policy-making. Promoting a deeper understanding of ecological ethics among religious communities could foster more sustainable environmental practices.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and compare the ideological visions of Sekarmaji Marijan Kartosuwiryo with Hamka's interpretations in Tafsir Al-Azhar, particularly regarding the Islamic concepts of faith, migration (hijrah), and jihad, and their implications for the formation of an Islamic state in post-independence Indonesia. Employing a comparative analysis methodology and bibliographic research approach, this study collected and analyzed data from a variety of primary and secondary sources, including books, journal articles, and historical documentation. The analysis reveals fundamental differences between Kartosuwiryo, who advocates for the establishment of an Islamic state based on strict Sharia principles with a radical approach, and Hamka, who emphasizes the necessity of spiritual and moral transformation through hijrah and jihad. While Kartosuwiryo views hijrah and jihad as political tools for social and political restructuring, Hamka interprets these concepts as a spiritual journey supporting internal change and personal growth.

Abstract

The Qur'an uses stories as a medium to convey moral messages for the creation of a virtuous human community. Scholars, such as Wahbah Zuhaylī, interpret these stories and derive various lessons and wisdom from them. In his exegesis al-Munīr, Zuhaylī discusses the "fiqh al-hayah" or lessons that can be learned from the interpreted verses. As a result, this article explores the deeper wisdom within the story of Prophet Sulaiman and the hoopoe bird, regarding Zuhaili's al-Munīr exegesis. This research utilizes a library research approach and a descriptive-analytical method. The findings indicate that the story of Prophet Sulaiman and the hoopoe bird offers wisdom on leadership values, interpersonal relationships, wisdom, honesty, and humility in acknowledging the knowledge provided by Allah.

Abstract

This study delves into the Quranic concept of ideal leadership by examining the narrative of Prophet Yusuf and its alignment with transformational leadership theory. Utilizing a qualitative library research approach, this analysis synthesizes insights from an array of primary and secondary sources including classical Islamic texts and contemporary scholarly articles. It identifies key leadership qualities exemplified by Prophet Yusuf such as intellectual prowess, professionalism, fairness, consistency, and the capacity to nurture a productive and inclusive environment. These attributes are juxtaposed with Bernard M. Bass's transformational leadership framework, which comprises intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, individualized consideration, and idealized influence. The research articulates how the leadership exemplified by Prophet Yusuf resonates with modern theoretical constructs and offers practical implications for contemporary leadership in organizational and national contexts. The findings underscore the enduring relevance of Quranic narratives in informing and enhancing modern leadership paradigms.

Abstract

This study aims to elucidate the multi-dimensional aspects of 'tafakkur' as depicted in the Quran, highlighting its implications for understanding the holistic integration of intellect and spirituality in Islamic teachings. Employing descriptive analytical methods, this study examines terms related to 'tafakkur' found in the Quran. The analysis identifies a rich framework of terms interconnected with 'tafakkur', demonstrating the Quran’s comprehensive approach to employing intellect and reason. Notably, 'tafakkur' is depicted not just as a cognitive activity but as a spiritual and moral duty essential for the full realization of Tawhid. 'Tafakkur' significantly enriches the Islamic intellectual tradition, emphasizing that true understanding of divine unity requires active and profound contemplation. This study reaffirms the critical role of reasoned faith and intellectual freedom in Islam.

Abstract

The intersection of modern genetics and Islamic theology is a burgeoning field of inquiry. This study delves into how technological advancements, especially in genetics, complement the teachings of the Al-Qur’an. Modern genetics, which traces its origins to Gregor Mendel's pioneering work on heredity, provides a scientific framework for understanding the transmission of genetic information across generations. Contrary to the view that science and religion are mutually exclusive, this research, supported by the Ministry of Religion through the scientific interpretation found in Tafsir Ilmi Kemenag, demonstrates their potential synergy. It particularly focuses on Quranic verses that align with genetic principles, such as the developmental stages of a human embryo detailed in Surahs Ar-Rahman, Al-Insan, As-Sajadah, Al-Mu'min, and Al-Hajj. These verses metaphorically describe the embryonic stages that echo modern genetic descriptions of DNA's role in human development. Our findings illustrate that the Quran anticipates certain modern scientific discoveries, offering a unique blend of scriptural interpretation and empirical science to bridge the gap between faith and rational inquiry.

Abstract

Family harmony is a fundamental human aspiration, significantly impacting the religious and educational development of children as they witness their parents' lives. This study explores the construction of a harmonious family according to the Qur'an, using Sternberg's love theory, which posits that an ideal marriage is built on three components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. Similarly, the Qur'an describes a harmonious family through the concepts of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah. This research is a library research study, utilizing data from various books and literature. The descriptive-analytical approach is employed to present and analyze the data in alignment with the Qur'an. The findings reveal that Sternberg's love theory aligns with the Qur'anic perspective on maintaining a healthy family sexual relationship, illustrated by the components of intimacy and passion, as reflected in the Qur'anic verses Al-Baqarah 2:223, An-Nisa' 4:19, and Al-Baqarah 2:187. These verses underscore the significance of sexual relations within the family. Additionally, the commitment component corresponds to the union of husband and wife in all matters, as depicted in An-Nisa' 4:1.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation and significance of “living Qur'an” practices in traditional and modern dayahs in the Southwestern region of Aceh, aiming to identify these practices, understand their implementation, and investigate the reasons behind their persistence. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing case studies and ethnographic observations. The study showed that “living Qur'an” practices, such as Ratib al-Haddad, Ratib al-Attas, Ratib Syahir, and Ratib Lathif in traditional dayahs, and Al-Ma’surat in modern dayahs, are deeply embedded in the dayah culture. These practices are systematically managed and carried out according to set schedules, with reasons including seeking Allah's pleasure, gaining rewards, and preserving scholarly traditions. Both traditional and modern dayahs in the southwestern region of Aceh effectively integrate “living Qur'an” practices into their daily routines, contributing to the spiritual and moral development of their students. These practices, while varied, reflect a commitment to maintaining a strong Islamic identity and adapting to contemporary educational needs.
