Abstract

Abstract Violence against women does not arise in an empty space. Violence against women emerges as a consequence of the construction of dominant masculinity that has been maintained for thousands of years. Long history bears witness to how this construction continues to produce a dominant-subordinate position between men and women. Men in the dominant position and women in the subordinate position. This article discusses the history of masculinity from traditional-modern-postmodern and tries to criticize the masculinity of each period. The analytical tool used is a compilation of critical social theory in Ben Agger's book and Janet Saltman Chafetz's theory of masculinity hegemony. The method used is the literature study method, to trace how the evolution of masculinity that was originally rigid has now become more fluid. The result of this article is how new men who are the product of postmodern masculinity can be used as a concept to prevent and fight violence against women. This concept is known as the new masculinity. Keywords : Violence, History, New Masculinity, Women, and Resistance

Abstract

Abstract

Islam and Feminism, both are perceived as incompatible. However, this view is sadly only generated by the Western when they see Islam in the Middle Eastern. It even misleads when the Western has been only looking for particular countries which practice conservative and textual Islam. In reality, Islam put women in a respectful position, and though Islam has different points of view from some points in feminism, it does not mean they are against each other. Here in this paper, I tried to analyse a comparative study between how our Indonesian culture and how Islamic teachings perceive the role of women in their domestic reality and how women can participate in every day life. Interestingly, the role of women fits into the role of women from the perspective of Ethics of Care. In Ethics of care, it is believed that women’s power on taking care of other people is the key to their strength and somehow when we learn Islam deeper, we will find it is connected and this paper proves it. Here we make structure our paper starting with an introduction, later we talk about classical Fiqih. The reason why we choose classical Fiqih is that we want to understand the root of Islamic teachings on the blatant reality so we can understand how Islam sees a woman in reality. Later, we will discuss a comparison between our culture in general and Islamic Teaching so we will have insight into which one is part of our culture and which one is purely Islamic teachings. From our findings, we found that our culture and Islamic teaching have relatively similar points of view on women’s role in domestic reality. However, the conservative approach is coming from misunderstanding and, people's attitudes to mixing Islamic teachings with their Khawarij culture which is not a real Islam yet because people from outside of the Islamic world do not understand, they tend to think it is a real Islam which is giving Islam a bad reputation.

Abstract

Online motorcycle taxi is a media in the form of an online application as a tool to order transportation services. Customers use gadgets to order motorcycle taxis online and connect with drivers who are ready to take or pick them up to their desired destination. The emergence of online motorcycle taxi drivers has caused a dynamic in viewing human work so that not only men can work as online motorcycle taxi drivers. This article aims to prove that women as online motorcycle taxi drivers is a form of gender equality. This study used a qualitative research method with data analysis techniques using triangulation, and a detection method using a research approach with interviews involving direct interaction between researchers and respondents to obtain information and data based on a frame of mind using ecofeminism. The patriarchal mindset causes a negative view of women and nature, which are seen as objects that can be controlled by men. In this context, ecofeminism offers a solution by strengthening the position of women and nature and fighting for gender equality and environmental protection. In the case of women's online motorcycle taxis, Ecofeminism Theory highlights the potential for gender to be improved by giving equal opportunities and access to women to become online motorcycle taxi drivers, without being limited by gender stereotypes that hinder women's roles. The results of this study show that as online motorcycle taxi drivers, women are able to make money, make decisions and develop the same potential as men while reducing the stereotype that online motorcycle taxi drivers work only for men. Abstract
