Abstract

One of the theological issues in Islam is the concept of human creation. Within the scope of the issue of human creation, there is also a discussion of the origin of the creation of women in the hadith. The Hadith about women being created from a rib is one of the theological issues in the issue of Islamic feminism. Therefore, this research is intended to find the location of problems related to the understanding of the hadith, then offer a new view in parsing the theological problems of Islamic feminism and try to produce a reconstruction of understanding of the hadith about women created from ribs. This research uses a qualitative method with a type of library research, accompanied by a hadith criticism approach. This research reveals that the wording of the hadith "women were created from ribs" is more accurately interpreted as a figurative meaning (majazi). So that the reconstruction of the meaning of the hadith leads to a positive connotation and avoids misogynism. Furthermore, the implicit wisdom of the hadith shows that there is a prophetic treatise that leads to education for women to be intensified, as Fethullah Gülen's view in interpreting the hadith.

Abstract

This research aims to examine Gangubai’s role as a surrogate mother in the brothel of Kamathipura. A surrogate mother is crucial in the prostitution area since the sex workers do not have any access to law, education, or health facilities. They even are threatened with being homeless. Thus, Gangu’s emergence as the leader in the brothel saves the prostitutes there. She is chosen by her friends in the brothel as the one who can protect their lives. Gangu is a well-educated girl from a prominent family in Kathiawar. Her father is a well-known lawyer. Therefore, she is the one who advocates for women who work in the prostitution area in Kamathipura. Like her, women who are trapped as sex workers are those who are deceived by the ones they love. Gangu turns out to be a sex worker after her boyfriend, Ramnik, manipulated her to be a film star. This research is a qualitative one that explores the analysis through textual critical description. This research employs the feminist-rational choice approach that emphasizes female liberation on gender, strategy, institutions, power, and change. To get the findings, this research focuses on two themes that are the idea of a surrogate mother in the brothel and how the surrogate mother implements her power to protect her workers in her place.

Abstract

Gender stereotypes are often assumed to limit the capacity to develop and make decisions. Gender stereotypes are also considered the main reason for the glass ceiling and maze effect. This study uses a literature review to synthesize gender stereotype research. A literature search was carried out with publication years limited from 2003 to 2023. The literature analyzed was collected from Scopus-indexed journals with the ScienceDirect, Springer, Wiley Online Library, and Emerald Insight databases. This research synthesizes and analyzes 40 relevant articles focusing on discussing gender stereotypes. Based on the analysis results, men and women have different stereotypes. Men are considered superior in their characteristics. However, while gender stereotypes still hamper women, there are reasons to remain optimistic. When women are the targets of gender bias, it is not just them but the organizations where they work and society as a whole who suffer. Conclusions with limitations and recommendations for further research are included in the article.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has occurred, followed by a global crisis and the issue of recession in various parts of the world, including Indonesia, has had a vulnerable impact on family resilience. This can be seen from the phenomenon of a significant increase in the prevalence of divorce from 291,677 in 2020, which increased by 53% to 447,743 in 2021, which places Indonesia as the country with the highest prevalence of divorce in Asia-Africa. This is directly proportional to the high prevalence of single parents, which places Indonesia in the second-highest position in the world with fatherless countries and DI. Yogyakarta ranks third highest in Indonesia. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Religion, the phenomenon of divorce is dominated by contested divorce from wives, namely 73.7%, with the reason being ongoing disputes at 62.4%. Various factors, including gender inequality in the domestic sphere, cause the disputes. The research method used was qualitative, with an explanatory research approach to 34 informants who were prospective premarital couples in the KUA Depok Yogyakarta work area. Data was collected through FGDs and deep interviews to explore prospective partners' perceptions of gender partnership in the family—purposive sampling technique according to inclusion criteria. Data analysis uses phenomenological studies, including data familiarization through identifying thematic frameworks, data indexation, coding and charting, and data interpretation carried out independently by the researcher. The research results show that the lowest knowledge of respondents regarding family functions is the socio-cultural function, namely ten respondents (29.41%), followed by the coaching function, namely 14 respondents (41.17%), and the reproductive function, namely 16 respondents (47.06%).

Abstract

This research delves into feminist themes within the novel "I'm not the Perfect Mexican Daughter," focusing on the depiction of women through the perspectives of two key female characters. Employing feminist literary analysis, the study investigates how Chicana women are represented in a society entrenched in patriarchal norms. Drawing from Garcia’s Chicana feminist and Tong’s feminist theories, it argues that women occupy subordinate positions due to entrenched male dominance. Despite advancements in the public sphere, Chicano women are still expected to adhere to traditional family roles, being judged primarily on physical appearance. Men are portrayed as dominant figures, wielding power in economic and social realms. Through the lives of the main characters, the novel highlights the challenges and contradictions faced by Chicana women amidst the women's movement. It presents an idealized image of womanhood emblematic of Chicana experiences in the United States, exploring Julia's defiance of gender norms, Olga's complex negotiation between conformity and rebellion, and Ama's struggle with societal expectations.

Abstract

In the social order, there are usually known for two genders that play a role, they are men and women, along with their respective roles in society. In modern society, there are concepts of patriarchy and matriarchy. Patriarchy is a concept that lineage is determined by the paternal line and men have the right to be dominant while women are subordinate. Matriarchy is a concept regarding the prioritisation of women in society by placing women as determinants of lineage and upholding gender equality. The author conducts research related to these two concepts by focusing on understanding the concept of matriarchy in the Artemyra nation in Shinobu Ohtaka's The Adventure of Sinbad comic. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data source used is The Adventure of Sinbad comic chapters 46, 47, 51, 53, and 54. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be understood that the concept of matriarchy in Artemyra is not a real matriarchy but a reverse patriarchy. Reverse patriarchy, like the concept of patriarchy in general, places one gender in a dominant position. In Artemyra, it is women who dominate the society. Reverse patriarchy has little possibility of happening in modern society because the concept of matriarchy itself upholds gender equality.

Abstract

The aim of this thesis research is to analyze the application of suitability between the indictment and subsidiary form made by the Public Prosecutor with the articles in which they are accused, and to analyze the suitability of the description evidence of information witnesses with documentary evidence in the form of Visum et Repertum according to Article 184 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. The study of the problem formulation and the conclusions are stated based on the author's arguments which were formulated using a deductive method, namely a method that relies on basic principles leading to special principles. The indictment in the form of a subsidiary in Verdict Number 301/Pid.Sus/2019/PN Tte is in accordance with the articles charged, however the indictment in the form of a subsidiary as a prosecution strategy is not in accordance with the procedure for making an indictment which should be in the form of alternative, because the use of each the law is exclusionary at other levels. The evidentiary system according to Article 184 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Visum et Repertum and witness statements remain valid evidence as long as there is no other evidence that disputes their truth. Although there is a discrepancy between the witnesses’ statements and the Visum et Repertum, due to the possibility of quite a large time difference between the criminal incident and the Visum examination, this could result in an examination for bleeding in the ear not being carried out because the wound had dried up.

Abstract

Women’s involvement in the political stage is still not optimal because they are objects of construction in a patriarchal culture. A construction of beauty is represented through the 2024 Election news media. This research aims to determine the extent to which the media constructs symbols of beauty for women running in the general election. This study uses qualitative methods. The samples from this research are four viral news stories about female legislative candidates from different online news media. By using the framing analysis of the Pan and Kosicki model from the theory of Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki, it was found that there is a construction of beauty that is someone who has a white appearance, no acne, light natural make-up, wears a hijab, has neat teeth, and has a beautiful smile. Beauty is then constructed as a reason for people to vote in elections, overriding attention and encouraging individuals to act on the initiative of first impressions.
