Abstract

Land can be said to be fertile seen from Biological factors. One of the Biological factors determining soil fertility is the population of bacteria in the soil. The purpose of this study was to calculate the population and describe the bacterial morphology of the Kampar Riau Sumatera Watershed. The method used in the this study is the observation and Coloni Counter method. Peat soil sampling was carried out at 8 peat soil points along the Kampar Riau Sumatera Watershed. Isolates were carried out using agar nutrient media and were fertilized for 24-48 hours at 370C. Macroscopic and microscopic observations were carried out to determine bacterial morphology. This research result obtained 16 isolates from 8 sample locations. The highest number of bacterial populations in the village of Kuala Terusan was 51,55 x 104 CFU/Unit and the lowest was found in Meranti Village with 12,93 x 104. Identified bacterial morfoligical characteristics are irregular, round, round with embossed edges and threaded threads. Cell shape 2 which is stem and round the catalase test are all positive

Abstract

This study was conducted from  November 2017 in Rupat Strait, Riau Province. The analysis of model was done in Laboratorium of Physical Oceanography, Departement of  Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, University of Riau. The research aims to understand the wave and tidal current on high tide (spring tide condition) in Rupat Strait. The significant wave height is about 0.12-0.90 m/s. The current speed  is about 0.18-0.78 m/s. The result of the study indicate that at spring tide condition, the tidal current from Malaka Strait flows up to Rupat Strait by northern and eastern part of Rupat Strait. This condition  influences distribution of sediments in Rupat Strait the cause of the changes coastline

Abstract

Study on the dehydrator engineering for fish dehydration has beenconducted. The study was aimed to engineer, to built and to assess the existension, effectivity and efficiency of the fish dehydrator and the quality of dehydratedgiant catfish (Pangasius hypopthalmus) yielded by its application. The dehydratorhad three main chamber, namely: smoking furnace, smoking chamber, and dryingchamber. Its volume was measured 120 X 180 X 200 Cm3, and its smoking anddrying capacity were 100 kg.The result showed that both smoking and drying process could be aplliedsimultaneously. Therefore, the smoking fuel used could be saved. It spent 5kg/hour of coconut shell or 3.5 kg/hour of rubber wood (Hevea brasilliensis). Itwas not detected smoke contamination into the drying chamber. The rate oftemperature and RH in smoking chamber was 63o C and 43%, meanwhile, indrying chamber was 50o C and 49%. The consumer acceptance and the quality ofthe dehidrated fish yielded by smoking was not significantly different to it yieldedby drying. To get the maximum water content 40% in the fish, smoking processneeded 8 hours, meanwhile drying process needed 12 hours. The dehydrated fishcould be stored for 9 days at room temperature (30-32 oC).

Abstract

Blood cockle interact with physical and chemical oceanography factors caused by the tides intensely, so it’s not possible to blood cockle to free from heavy metal pollution. As a organisms, blood cockles are relatively sedentary and filter feeder, so that the presence of pollutants in the marine waters will be absorbed by the biota. Research on the absorption of metal (Pb) with different salinity level and shell size was conducted in August 2017. It aims to determine the ability of Pb absorption in blood cockle based on salinity level and shell size differences. The method used is experimental method using Factorial Randomized Block Design which is designed from 2 factors namely salinity and shell size. The absorption of Pb by blood cockles were higher at 20 o/oo compared to 25 o/oo, as well as the uptake by 3 cm shells length of the cockles were higher than that by the cockles with 4.5 cm length.

Abstract

A study on the relationship between meiofauna community structure with seagrassdensity and environmental parameters has been carried out in the Dompak Straitwaters, Riau Archipelago. This study were investigated on four different seasonsthroughout a year, from May 2005 to April 2006. Three sampling site, i.e.., Al, A2and A3 were chosen to represent research sites. The sediment samples were tekenby PVC cores, in which six layers were separated (i.e. 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm, 10-15 cm,15-20 cm, 20-25 cm and 25-30 cm). The environmental parameters, such ascurrent velocity, the sediment composition, total organic carbon (TOO, totalorganic matter (TOM), pH and redox potential (Eh), were also observed. The dataon meiofauna, seagrass density and environmental parameters were analyzedstatistically by a regression analyisis. This analysis was run using a SPSS softwareversion 11.5 for Windows. The meiofauna was dominated by Nematodes,Copepods, Polychaetes, Foraniiniferans and Turbellarians. The results areshowing that the meiofaunal community structure would depend on severalconditions such as seagrass density, environmental factors and hydrologicalcharacteristics. The regression results are showing that the meiofaunal communitystructure patterns was significantly correlated with seagrass density and to theenvironmental parameters. Vertically, the meiofaunal community structurepatterns seems to be more affected by TOC and TOM. While the horizontally, itseems to he more affected by current velocity, TOM and pH.
