Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of biscuit quality with the addition of nanocalcium from the sembilang fish bone (Paraplotosus albilabris). The method used is non factorial completely randomized design with the treatment used in this study, namely the addition of nanocalcium from 4 levels, namely N0 (control: biscuits without the addition of nanocalsium), N1 (addition of 5% nanocalcium), N2 (addition of 10% nanocalsium ), N3 (addition of 15% nanocalcium). The parameters tested were organoleptic and proximate. The results of the study showed that the addition of 15% nanocalcium in Sembilang fish biscuits was the best treatment most panelists liked. Appearance characteristics are brilliant, intact and specific to fish biscuits, non-fishy aroma, and brittle and dense texture, with water content of 5.78%, ash content of 5.10%, fat content of 24.59%, protein content 6.82%, carbohydrate levels 57.71%, phosphorus levels 0.57% and calcium levels 14.14%.

Abstract

Several large and small rivers in Riau flow down into the estuary ofKampar River. Water that flown from these resources, however, may containmany types of pollutants as there are many industrial and domestic activitiesconducted along the river dispose their waste in the river. The present of thepollutant strongly affect the water quality and negatively affect aquatic organismliving in the river. To understand the effects of the pollutant, especially theindustrial pollutant on the biology of aquatic organisme, this study wasconducted. Samples of water, sediment and Hemibagrus nemurus (Bagridae) weretaken and the presence of heavy metal in these samples were analyzed. Heavymetal content in the sediment and water were analyzed using an AAS method, while its presence in the fish was detected in the kidney that was processed forhistological analysis. Results shown that the highest Pb and Cd content waspresent in the kidney of fish living in the downstream, followed by fish living inthe midstream and the lowest was in the fish captured in the upstream.Histological analysis of the kidney shown that there is abnormality of the kidneytissue as there are necrotic cells, limphocyte presence, infected glomerulus andhaemorrhagic spots. Heavy metals accumulation was also detected as there areblack spots (indication of heavy metal mineralization) present in that tissue. Aswell as in the fish tissue, the highest heavy metal content were found in the waterand sediment taken from the downstream, followed by mid and downstream. However, statistical analysis shown that there is no interaction between Cdcontent and sampling sites (P>0.05). Data obtained in this research proved that thewaste originated from industrial activities along the river negatively affect waterquality as well as aquatic organisms, especially Bagridae fish.

Abstract

Characteristic of population biology of the “sepetang” clam has been studied inDumai mangrove ecosystem from November 2010 to October 2011. This researchwas to study the patterns of the population growth, mortality and recruitment ofthe clam P. acutidens. Sampling was monthlyfrom plot 1 m x 1 m quadratictransects. The result showed that growth pattern of P. acutidens was negativeallometric with asymptotic length (L∞) 92.71 mm.The annual growth coefficient(K) and total mortalitywere 0.59 and 1.87 per year, respectively. The naturalmortality was probably related to environmental condition. The recruitmentoccurred every month, the peaks occurred on April (15.93%) and August(13.16%).

Abstract

Are  three  main  enzymes  that  play  in  feed  digestion  that  are  protese, amylase and lipase. The activity of each enzyme develops varies depending on fish species,  feed, and environmental  factors. The aims of this study was to: 1) know the fish morphology development by the mouth opening of selais larvae (O. hypopthalmus Blkr.) 2) determine the relationship of fish larvae age and feed type. 3) determine the relationship of enzyme activity, feed type and larvae survival. 4) determine the feed consumed, digestion rate and growth rate of selais larvae. This study used Complete Randomly Design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The feed type factors are: Artemia salina, Tubifex sp, and shrimp pellet + EZ plus Nutrien Digester and Deliver. Larvae age factors are : 0-7 days, 8-15 days, 16-23 days, and 24-31 days. The result showed that different type of feed and larvae affect the larvae survival. The highest survival rate of 73-98% was found in feed type of Artemia sp. and 0-14 days age, and survival rate of 98-100% was found in feed type of Tubifex sp. and 15-31 larvae age.
