Abstract

This research was conducted on October to Desember 2009 at PLTAKoto Panjang reservoir an Fisheries Biology Laboratory, Fisheries and MarineScience Faculty University of Riau. The objective of this research was toindentify, find out varieties and economics value of fish occured at the reservoir.The method applied in this research was survey method by applying 7 stations forfish collection. Sample identification generated 44 varieties, these sorts included 6Ordos, 17 Familyes and 30 Genus. From 44 varietes collected could be identifiedthat 30 ot them were ornamental fishes, 33 kinds were consumed fishes and 7kinds were aquaculture fishes. These fishes may occur in the dam because theyescape from the cages or because the PLN distributed the fishes in the dam by2001 and now they reproduced.

Abstract

This research carried out in the laboratory of waste Processing Technologyand the laboratory of Water Quality Management in the FAPERIKA – UNRI. Theaim of this research is to identify the ability of chitosan in reducing the level ofTSS in the liquid waste of plywood industry. The method used in this research isexperimental study with complete randomized block, one factor, 4 level, 12 unitsof trial. Several chitosan concentration ie 0 mg/l, 15 mg/l, 30 mg/l appliedsampling were conducted in the is 8th hours, 12 th hours and 16 th hours.Resultshowh that 12 hours after addition of 30 mg chitosan / l, the quality of the wasteimproved : TSS 182,3 – 56,7 mg/l, Phenol 2,4 - 0,5 mg/l, BOD5 132-93 mg/l,COD 279-217 mg/l and pH 6 - 9. compared with KEP – 51/MENLH/10/1995 thequality of the treated waste is good so, it can be concluded that.

Abstract

ABSTRACTHeavy metals in the water might be accumulated in the sediments as well in the benthic organisms such as clam. To understand the Pb and Crcontent, a research has been conducted on May 2019.The water, sediment and clam sampleswere taken from 3 sampling sites, in the area close to mangrove (S1), around the shipyard   and settlement area (S2) and around the port and settlement area (S3). Samplings were conducted 3 times, once / 2 days.Results shown that Pb and Cr content in water  was 0.029 mg/L and 0.007 mg/L, in the sediment was 0.535 mg/kg and 0.204 mg/kg and clam was 0.114 mg/kg and 0.020 mg/kg respectively. The water in all sampling sites can be categorized as polluted, but the heavy metal concentration in the clam obtained from the sampling areas were lower than the safety standard issued by the Indonesian Government, and it might be consumed safely. Keywords:benthic organisms, sediment, bivalve, heavy metal

Abstract

ABSTRACTPeat water has a low nutrient content, but it can be enriched by addition of fermented mixed tofu industry and restaurant waste. This media may be used for growing  Chlorella sp. This study aims to determine the effect offermented mixed tofu industry and restaurant waste addition as alternative nutrients for the growth of Chlorella sp. This study was conducted in September-Oktober 2019.RAL method was applied with 6 different concentrations of mixed solution (50% tofu industry waste + 50% restaurant waste), there were600 ml/3L (P1), 1,200 ml/3L(P2), 1,800 ml/3L (P3),2,400 ml/3L(P4) and 0 ml/3L (P5), with 3 repetitions.Each experimental unit was added with 75ml of Chlorella sp (106 cells/L). and was cultured for 7 days. Results shown that Chlorella sp. grow well in all treatments, except control.The best result was provided by P4 (8.531 x 106 cells/ml)that was achieved on the 5th day. The highest dry Chlorella sp. biomass was 4.30 g/L, around 84.2% of wet weight. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the peat water can be enriched by addition of fermented mixed tofu industry and restaurant wastesand it can be used as nutrients for growing Chlorella sp.Keywords: organic matters, algae culture, microalgae, liquid waste, alternative nutrient

Abstract

Abstract Thebutchery liquid waste is rich in BOD5andCOD  and it need to be processed before being flown to the environment. To understand the effectiveness of combined anaerob-aerob biofilters in reducing the BOD5and COD in the butchery liquid waste , a study was conducted in February -  March 2018. The anaerob tanks were completed with pieces of brick, gravel and sand media (60 cm height), while that of the aerob was completed with coconut fibers and charcoal media (40 cm height). Around 215 L waste was kept in the anaerob tanks for 12 days and then it was flown to the aerob tanks and was kept for 10 days. Samplings for water quality parameters (BOD5, COD, DO and pH) was conducted 2 times, before the waste was processed and by the end of the experiment. The processed waste was then used for rearing Spirulinasp, 100 ml of Spirulina stock (104 cells/ ml) were reared in 1 liter of processed waste. Spirulina density was checked everyday. Results shown that the BOD5 reduced, from 1,307 mg/L to 113 mg/L(the effectiveness was 91.35 %); COD reduced, from 7,430 mg/L to 182 mg/L ( the effectiveness was 97,55 %); DO improved (from 1 mg/L to 5 mg/L) and pH also increased, from 6 to 8. The Spirulina density peaked by the 7th day, it was 4,074,666 cells/ml. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the use of anaerob-aerob biofilter was effective in improving the butchery waste water quality. Keywords : Organic waste, Anaerob tanks, Aerob tanks, Spirulina sp.

Abstract

Air Hitam River is one of the most polluted river in Pekanbaru, as there is a tofu industry and households that discharge the waste to the river. To understand the pollution level of the river, a study has been conducted from March to April 2015. The pollution level was identified based on water quality and macrozoobenthos community structure in the river. There were 4 stations and 3 sampling points in each station. Water samples were taken 3 times, once a week and water quality parameters measured were temperature, current speed, TSS, depth, pH, BOD5, COD and ammonia. While the macrozoobenthos diversity (H’) was analyzed usinga Shannon-Weinermethod. Results shown that temperature was 27.67 – 28.00 0C, current speed: 13.00 – 35.00 cm/sec, TSS: 28.66 – 51.86 mg/L, depth 47.33 – 75.33 cm, pH: 5, BOD5: 5.61 – 12.51 mg/L, COD: 29.60 – 38.70 mg/L, ammonia: 1.610 – 3.389 mg/L. The value of the TSS, BOD5, COD and ammonia were higher than those of the Quality Standard PP No 82/2001 and the H’ of the macrozoobentos was 0.93 – 1.802. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the Air Hitam River was lightly to heavily polluted.Keywords: Air Hitam River, Water Quality, Macrozoobenthos, Tofu Liquid Waste

Abstract

                                       Abstract The noodle industry liquid waste is rich in BOD5, COD and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A research aims to reduce the BOD5, COD on liquid waste using biofilters has been conducted in February-March 2018. The noodle industry liquid waste (175 liters) was kept in 2 anaerobik tanks that completed with gravel, sand and fibers media for ten days.Thenthe waste was flown to an aerobik tank (chopped plastic bottle media) for seven days. Finallythe wastewas treated in a phytoremediation pondthat was competed withPistia stratiotesfor fifteen days. By the end of the experiment, the BOD5reduced from 1.318 mg/L to 48 mg/L (effectiveness 96.35%) and COD reduced from 10.082 mg/L to 104 mg/L (effectiveness 98.96%). The treated waste was used for rearing Oreochromis niloticus for fifteen days and survival rate of the fish was 84.33%. Based on data obtained, the combination of anaerob-aerob biofilters and phytoremediationusing Pistia stratiotes is effective to reduce the BOD5and COD content in thenoodle industry liquid waste. Limbah cair mie basah mempunyai kadar BOD5, COD yang sangat tinggi sehingga perlu dilakukan proses pengolahan sebelum dibuang ke perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menurunkan kadar BOD5, COD pada limbah cair dengan menggunakan biofilter dan dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari-Maret 2018. Limbah cair mie basah  (175 liter) didiamkanpada drum anaerob ( bermedia kerikil, pasir dan ijuk)  selama 10 hari, kemudian dialirkan ke drum aerob (bermedia botol plastik)  selama 7 hari dan setelah itu air limbah diolah pada bak fitoremediasi menggunakan tumbuhan kiapu (Pistia stratiotes) selama 15 hari. Hasil penelitian ini, kadar BOD5adalah 1.318 mg/L menjadi 48 mg/L dengan efektifitas 96.35 % dan kadar COD adalah 10.082 mg/L menjadi 104 mg/L dengan efektifitas 98.96%,. Hasil olahan limbah cair mie basah diujikan ke ikan nila (Oreochromis niloticus) selama 15 hari dengan persentase kelulushidupan adalah 84.33%. Berdasarkan data tersebut, penggunaan biofilter bermedia kerikil, pasir, ijuk, botol plastik dan kiapu (Pistia stratiotes) efektif dalam menurunkan kadar BOD5, COD pada limbah cair mie basah. Keywords: Organic waste, organicpollutant, waste water,chopped plastic bottle media

Abstract

AbstractPalm oil liquid waste is rich in TSS and ammonia and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A study aims to reduce the TSS and ammonia in that waste by using a biofilter that was added with EM4 has been conducted in March-April 2019. There were 3 treatments applied, namely the addition of  12 ml, 15 ml and 18 ml EM4 in the anaerob and aerob tanks, 3 replications. The waste was settled for 3 days in the anaerob and 3 days in the aerob tanks. The treated waste was then tested for TSS and ammonia concentrations. The treated waste was also used for rearing Pangasius sutchi seedlings. Result shown that after being treated using the EM4 enriched biofilter the TSS reduced into60-71.66 mg/L and ammonia was 2.5047-5.3624 mg/L. The survival Pangasius sutchi seedlings reared in the treated waste was 66.66-93.33%. The best treatment to reduce the TSS was the addition of 15 ml EM4 and the effectiveness was 60 mg/L while that of the ammonia was 2.5047 mg/L. It can be concluded thatthe addition of EM4 to the biofilter tanks was able to reduce the TSS and ammonia in the palm oil industrial liquid waste. Keywords: Waste water, Effective Microorganism-4, Pangasius sutchi, Biofilter System.

Abstract

Abstract Sago liquid waste is rich in BOD5 and COD and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A study aims to reduce the BOD5 and COD in that waste by using the biofilter that was added with EM4 has been conducted in April-May 2019. There were 3 treatments applied, namely the addition of 17 ml, 20 ml and 23 ml EM4 in the anaerob and aerob tanks, 3 replications.  The waste was settled for 3 days in the anaerob and 3 days in the aerob tanks. The treated waste was then tested for BOD5, and COD concentration. The treated waste was also used for rearing Cyprinus carpio seedlings. Result shown that after being treated using the EM4 enriched bio filter, the BOD5 reduced into 125,5-149,8 mg/L and COD was 224,3-289,3 mg/L.The survival ofCyprinus carpioseedling reared in the treated waste was 60-80 %.The best treatment to reduce the BOD5was the addition of 20 ml EM4and theeffectiveness was 97,08%, while that of the COD was 98,15%.It can be concluded that the addition of  EM4 to the biofilter tanks was able  to reduce the BOD5 and COD in the  sago industrial liquid waste.Keywords: Effecctive Microorganisms-4, Cyprinus  carpio, Anaerob tanks, Aerob tanks

Abstract

Abstract Thelaundryliquid wasteis rich in TSS and TDS and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A study aims to reduce the TSS and TDS in that waste has been conducted in January – March 2018. The waste (135 L) was treated using a batch system that was consisted of 2 anaerob and 2 aerob tanks and a Eichhornia crassipes phytoremediation pond. The liquid waste was kept for 10 days in anaerob tanks, 7 days in aerob tanks and 15 days in phytoremediation pond.By the end of the experiment, the TSS reduced from 188 mg/l to 11 mg/l (the effectiveness wasof 94.14%). While the TDS reduced from 1,740 mg/l – 310 mg/l (the effectiveness was 82.18%).Other water quality parameters such as pH was normal and DO was improved. The treated waste was used for rearing Clarias gariepinus (3-4 cm TL) and was kept for 15 days. The survival rate of the fish was 100%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the combination of bio filtersand phytoremediation system using E. crassipes is effective to reduce the TSS and TDS content in the laundry liquid waste. Keyword : waste water, detergent contaminated waste, batch system, waste management
