Abstract

This study explores the textual transformations of Little Women (1868–69) by Louisa May Alcott in China, focusing on its translations, adaptations, and reception across different historical periods. Despite its initial perception as an educational novel shaping girls' values and behaviors, Little Women has evolved into a text that empowers women, reflecting tensions between patriarchal norms and feminist ideals, as well as between children’s and adult discourse. Drawing on André Lefevere’s manipulation theory and a feminist perspective, this research examines key Chinese translations and adaptations, including Zheng Xiaocang’s 1933 translation, the 1957 Cantonese film adaptation, and Liu Chunying and Chen Yuli’s 2020 translation influenced by Greta Gerwig’s film. The findings reveal that these transformations not only reshape gender narratives but also mirror China’s modernization process and the evolution of Chinese feminism. By analyzing how gender issues in the original text are conveyed and negotiated in different socio-historical contexts, this study highlights the dynamic interaction between literature, translation, and cultural shifts. It further underscores the role of literary adaptation in shaping feminist discourse in China. Future research should explore how translated and adapted literary works contribute to cross-cultural exchanges and evolving gender perceptions

Abstract

To accelerate the development of a strong nation in education, science, and technology while achieving self-reliance in high-level scientific and technological advancements, the integrated "trinity" of education, science, and talent cultivation is necessary. This study focuses on the significance of integrating education and scientific studies in higher education, emphasizing the role of universities in fostering a holistic educational ecosystem. This study employs a descriptive analysis of policies and practices related to integrating science and education at the School of Food Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. Data were collected through a literature review, an analysis of the university's internal policies, and an evaluation of its study platforms, study teams, scientific projects, and study outcomes. The findings indicate that implementing the integration of study and education in this university has significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of learning and the effectiveness of study-based moral education. This approach supports students' academic development and strengthens graduates' competitiveness in emerging technologies. The key contribution of this study lies in mapping a model of study-education integration that can serve as a reference for other higher education institutions. Academically, the study highlights that collaboration between education and scientific studies is an effective strategy for improving learning quality, fostering innovation, and enhancing national competitiveness in the global knowledge-based economy

Abstract

This study was conducted during the academic year 2023/2024 and explored the relationship between occupational stress, job satisfaction, and occupational motivation among Omani teachers, focusing on job satisfaction as a mediator. The aim was to identify strategies to enhance teachers' motivation and well-being within the Omani education system. The study focused on government schoolteachers in various Omani governorates, using a stratified random sample of 714 participants. A descriptive correlational design was used, with data collected through a validated questionnaire addressing occupational stress, job satisfaction, and occupational motivation, where validated scales from the literature were adopted. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. The results showed a significant negative relationship between occupational stress and occupational motivation, with job satisfaction mitigating the adverse effects of stress. Teachers who reported higher satisfaction were better able to maintain motivation despite stress. It is worth noting that teachers and those with extensive teaching experience reported higher stress levels, but motivation was sustained when satisfaction was high. The study recommended introducing stress management initiatives, improving working conditions, and providing professional development opportunities to enhance job satisfaction and motivation. It has also urged policymakers to address systemic challenges and suggested further research to explore additional factors that influence these dynamics

Abstract

The stone carvings of the Southern Dynasties are outstanding representatives of ancient Chinese sculpture art. This study takes the Southern Dynasties stone carvings as an example to explore the feasibility of integrating cultural heritage into the field of children's education. The research focuses on the cognitive development characteristics of children, and designs a teaching practice activity that integrates field visits to cultural heritage, interactive experiences of digital products, handmade cultural and creative products, and storytelling of cultural heritage. A comparative experiment is conducted on students from a primary school in Nanjing. Through comparative analysis of data such as questionnaire surveys, interview observations, and test scores, it was found that integrating cultural heritage into children's education can not only significantly improve students' mastery of cultural heritage knowledge, but also effectively stimulate their enthusiasm for self-directed learning and active exploration. The experimental results have verified the positive role of integrating cultural heritage into children's education, providing a novel implementation path for the reform and innovation of children's education.

Abstract

This study explores Chinese English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers' perspectives on employing a play-based approach in teaching phonics. The case study method will be employed by this study, which is particularly suitable for this research as it allows for an in-depth exploration of the complex, contextualized experiences of Chinese EFL teachers using play-based approaches in phonics instruction. The study captures teachers' perspectives by employing in-depth interviews and classroom observations, thus providing rich, qualitative data that reveals what they do and why and how they integrate play-based methods into their teaching. By analyzing interview and observational data, the study aims to identify significant themes and variations in the teachers' perspectives to enhance phonics learning among their students. Understanding these aspects will provide valuable insights into how play-based learning can effectively adapt to the Chinese EFL context, potentially improving phonics instruction and student outcomes. Finally, the conduct of this study is justified as phonics is essential for developing early reading skills in EFL learners. However, traditional methods may not fully engage students or address their diverse needs. Play-based learning, which emphasizes interactive and enjoyable activities, offers a potential solution by making phonics instruction more engaging and effective

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of Chinese profanities into visual symbols within internet culture, specifically examining the metaphorical processes through which offensive language is reinterpreted as socially acceptable symbols. The research addresses the gap in existing literature by applying Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Multimodal Metaphor Theory to understand how profanities, such as the term “操” (cào), are metaphorically mapped onto non-offensive symbols, like “草” (cǎo) and plant emojis. The study investigates two key questions: (1) How do profanities transform into visual symbols through metaphorical mappings? and (2) How do multimodal metaphors, combining text and images, reinforce or diminish the original meaning of these profanities? Using a qualitative approach, the paper identifies three core metaphorical mechanisms: phonetic metaphors, imagery metaphors, and metonymic substitution. The findings reveal that visual metaphors play a crucial role in bypassing censorship, retaining emotional intensity, and facilitating social communication in digital spaces. The study’s theoretical contribution includes extending Conceptual Metaphor Theory to visual and multimodal symbols and proposing a “three-stage transformation” model (language symbol → multimodal mapping → cultural appropriation). This research provides insights into the cognitive, cultural, and social processes behind the evolution of language in the digital age and suggests that visual metaphors offer a powerful tool for reshaping online communication within cultural and censorship constraints

Abstract

This study employed a narrative inquiry method. It used qualitative techniques such as in-depth interviews, family diaries, video recordings, and field observations. The study systematically examined the design and practice of early English education in Chinese families. Globalization has accelerated. The importance of English as an international language continues to rise. Families serve as key environments for early language learning. Their educational settings, parental teaching strategies, and emotional support significantly influence children’s learning motivation and oral expression. The study developed a theoretical model: Family Factors → Interest Stimulation → Motivation Formation → Enhanced Oral Expression. Analysis of several representative family cases revealed key factors. A warm and open family environment played a crucial role. Diversified teaching methods—such as parent-child reading, picture book reading, nursery rhyme instruction, scenario simulation, and interactive games—were important. A positive shift in parental attitudes and effective resource integration also contributed significantly to stimulating children’s learning motivation. Parents continuously adjusted their teaching strategies. They enriched language input and created authentic communication scenarios. These efforts significantly improved children’s English oral expression skills. This study provides empirical support for early English education theories. It offers valuable guidance for parents, teachers, and policymakers in developing scientific and systematic family English education strategies. The findings promote a shift from traditional exam-oriented models to approaches that emphasize emotional experience and communicative practice

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the income potential of oil palm farmers in financing higher education at Jambi University, addressing the rising educational costs that burden farmer families. Using a descriptive quantitative method, data were collected through questionnaires from 30 oil palm farmers meeting specific criteria. The analysis employed descriptive statistics to examine income and expenditure patterns. Results showed that the average household income was IDR 6,838,083.33, with expenditures of IDR 2,695,366.63. The income generated from oil palm farming alone has the potential to exceed educational funding needs, with a potential income ratio (PP) of 1.09 for oil palm farming and 1.67 when combined with other sources. While most farmers demonstrate strong income potential, some with lower incomes require additional support. The combined income from oil palm and non-oil palm activities offers a better opportunity for financing education. Relying solely on oil palm income could limit financial stability. This research contributes insights into how farmers' income levels relate to their capacity to fund education and suggests policy recommendations to enhance access to higher education for farmers' children, fostering social and economic development in the area

Abstract

The transformation of character education has become a crucial agenda in the development of Indonesia’s human resources, especially in responding to global challenges and the post-pandemic learning crisis. The Independent Curriculum has emerged as an innovative educational policy that emphasizes flexibility, differentiated learning, and character strengthening through the integration of Pancasila Student Profile values. However, there remains a research gap concerning the extent to which this curriculum effectively fosters students’ character holistically and how its implementation faces real challenges in the field. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in the transformation of character education in Indonesia by highlighting the strategies, challenges, and its impact on students’ motivation and learning quality. The method employed is a qualitative descriptive literature review by analyzing various recent research findings and empirical data. The results show that the Independent Curriculum enhances learning motivation, active student engagement, and the quality of the learning process through a more interactive and student-centered approach. Teachers play a strategic role as facilitators and agents of change, although they still require training and systemic support. The findings underscore the importance of synergy among stakeholders in strengthening the capacity of curriculum implementers, developing comprehensive character evaluation systems, and creating an inclusive and adaptive learning ecosystem. The Independent Curriculum has the potential to become a strong foundation in shaping an Indonesian generation that excels not only academically but also possesses moral integrity, social sensitivity, and adaptability in the global era
