Abstract

The historical differences between China and Western countries and the dominant discourse of Western media have led to doubts and biases in international public opinion regarding the reporting of Confucius Institutes. The British media serves as a typical example of shaping this negative perception. This study aims to analyze how major British media outlets frame reports on Confucius Institutes using the theory of framing analysis. Through an examination of seven major news media in the United Kingdom, the study finds that reporting on Confucius Institutes is primarily framed within three core themes: the "China threat theory," "Chinese government autocracy," and "controversy surrounding Confucius Institutes." Overall, the media narratives tend to be negative. By applying the concept of "frame device" within Gamson's "interpretive package" theory, the study reveals that behind the negative public opinion of Confucius Institutes in the UK, there are underlying factors such as the dominance of Western media discourse, Western concerns over Chinese cultural influence, and operational challenges faced by Confucius Institutes on a global scale. Based on these findings, the study recommends strategies for optimizing and reshaping the international public image of Confucius Institutes. These strategies include fostering pluralistic dialogue between China and Western countries, implementing more localized management of Confucius Institutes, and promoting a positive international communication agenda for Confucius Institutes. By enhancing the effectiveness of China’s global communication efforts, Confucius Institutes can mitigate misunderstandings and establish a more objective and balanced image on the international stage

Abstract

In 2020, China officially released the Recommendations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Formulating the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives for 2035, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to building a high-quality education system. This policy marks a new phase in China’s educational modernization, prompting deeper academic investigations into teacher leadership. However, despite its significance, research on teacher leadership in China still faces challenges regarding focus and implementation. This study aims to analyze the development of teacher leadership research in China from 2020 to 2024, a period characterized by the nation’s transition toward high-quality education. Using a systematic literature review methodology, this study identifies a fluctuating yet declining trend in publications on teacher leadership. Existing research predominantly focuses on theoretical exploration, conceptual clarification, and constructing theoretical frameworks, while empirical studies investigating practical applications remain scarce. Findings also indicate that studies on teacher leadership in higher education institutions, particularly within the framework of high-quality development, remain significantly underdeveloped. To address this gap, future research should integrate contemporary educational policies, expand the scope of inquiry, and diversify research themes. Strengthening the synergy between teacher leadership theory and practice is essential to supporting the construction of a high-quality education system in China

Abstract

Higher education institutions cannot exist without students, deemed their primary asset. This is why many tertiary institutions have begun adopting a student-consumer approach to improve student satisfaction and student-centeredness. However, the concept of student-centeredness is understudied, and there remains no unified definition of what it constitutes. This study hopes to expand on the limited existing literature. To achieve this, the research sought to understand students’ perceptions of whether their institution is student-centered. Sixty-two students from two private universities responded to an online questionnaire. Data was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Findings reveal that student-centeredness is complex, multi-dimensional, and viewed based on students’ expectations and experiences. Nevertheless, a student-centered university encompasses a safe and welcoming learning environment that validates students’ efforts, listens to their concerns and recommendations, caters to their holistic development, and provides the requisite resources for student success. Even though both private institutions make some efforts to be student-centered, findings suggest notable weaknesses that undermine total student-consumer satisfaction, which raises the need for operational and policy review. Improvements in communication, responsiveness, and a better balance between financial goals and student well-being are needed to improve student-centeredness. The study has implications for how technology could enhance student satisfaction outcomes

Abstract

Task-based teaching is an innovative instructional model widely applied in high school physical education (PE) classrooms. It requires teachers to respect students' dominant role in teaching, organize diverse practical activities based on students' actual conditions and course content, ensure teaching quality and efficiency, and promote improving students' comprehensive physical literacy. This paper elaborates on the characteristics and roles of task-based teaching in high school PE courses and proposes specific application strategies. These include improving pre-class preparation, clarifying teaching objectives, creating teaching scenarios, optimizing classroom atmosphere, assigning problem-based learning tasks, guiding students' independent inquiry, respecting students' differences, setting hierarchical learning tasks, optimizing language expression methods, enhancing classroom teaching efficiency, and focusing on the expansion of learning tasks to improve students' comprehensive abilities. These strategies aim to enhance the effectiveness of high school PE course teaching. However, in academic research, especially in the niche market of school physical education, repetitive research on task-based teaching methods is common. This phenomenon wastes valuable research resources and affects the depth and breadth of academic innovation and knowledge accumulation. This paper aims to identify repetitive research in the study of task-based teaching methods in school physical education through a literature review, analyze their causes, and propose effective avoidance strategies

Abstract

The digital era has significantly transformed education and cultural dissemination through Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI). This technology presents innovative opportunities to optimize Island Cultural Resources (ICR) for education by employing intelligent analysis and personalized recommendations to enrich learning experiences, enhance resource utilization efficiency, and support cultural heritage preservation and innovation. However, GAI also poses challenges alongside its potential, particularly concerning ethics, information security, and academic integrity. This study aims to identify the negative impacts of GAI in education, including the diminishing role and agency of teachers and students, the emergence of information cocoons that limit diverse perspectives, and the growing trend of knowledge homogenization. Additionally, it highlights the urgent need to restructure the educational ecosystem to remain relevant in the face of rapid technological advancements. The research employs a literature review and case study analysis to explore the application of GAI in education, particularly in island-based cultural learning. The findings indicate that GAI may reduce students' creativity and critical thinking without proper implementation while exacerbating digital inequalities. As a recommendation, this study proposes strategies based on human-centric technological ethics, enhanced media literacy, and the deep integration of technology and education to ensure that GAI enriches learning experiences, fosters cultural diversity, and upholds ethical academic values

Abstract

In the era of rapid Internet development, Internet memes have become highly popular among young people due to their unique expression and widespread dissemination. Memes reflect their emotions and state of mind and serve as a means for observing social phenomena and cultural trends. The popularity of Internet memes provides young people with new forms of communication and expression in complex social environments while fostering creative thinking and observation. However, due to their varied meanings and potential misuse, Internet memes can influence and shape young people's values and worldviews, sometimes leading to adverse effects. This study aims to analyze the impact of Internet memes on developing young people's values and explore appropriate ways to integrate memes into ideological and political education. A qualitative research approach is employed, utilizing literature analysis and case studies to understand how young people use and perceive memes. The findings indicate that while memes can serve as creative tools for social reflection, their uncontrolled use can lead to misinformation, oversimplification of complex issues, and the formation of uncritical thinking patterns. Therefore, a deeper understanding of appropriate meme usage and the role of educators in guiding young people is essential. Digital literacy-based educational approaches should be implemented to help young people understand memes' meaning, context, and social impact. Additionally, thoughtful supervision and regulations that do not stifle creativity should be applied to ensure the healthy and positive development of Internet memes
