Abstract

Bima ethnics were the genealogies of specific ethnic who once strongly upheld the traditions and local cultures in their everyday life. The local understanding of the Bima ethnics was reflected in the idea of their local wisdom and cultural spirit embedded in the fundamental values of Islamic teaching and tradition that considered as moral attitudes and guidance to control their behavior and morality in their daily basis either in private sphere or in social sphere. There are at least two cultural values that were strongly influenced by Islamic teachings and traditions, namely Maja Labo Dahu (Shamed and Scared) and Nggahi Rawi Pahu (Speech according to actions). Those cultural values can be considered as living traditions because those local wisdoms reflected in people everyday life in the past. Besides, those terms have been a slogan for Bima and Dompu regency as a way of Bima ethnic moral life that shaped how they conduct elite life in government and human’s everyday life in society. On the other hand, those cultural values are not strongly reflected in Bima youth generation nowadays. This case is what I call as leaving tradition because the cultures of Maja Labo Dahu and Nggahi Rawi Pahu have gradually disappeared in Bima society nowadays. Therefore, the main question of this article is (1) How does the construction of Islamic teaching and tradition uphold in Bima cultural life? and (2). Why does the value of Bima cultures not gradually apply in their daily basis nowadays? This research employs qualitative research, with data analyses of literature review from academic article, journal, and thesis.

Abstract

Khaled Hosseini, Afghan born American novelist who was known for his vivid depictions of Afghanistan, most notably in The Kite runner. Hosseini’s very fond memories of his childhood in peaceful pre-Soviet era Afghanistan, as well as his personal experiences with Afghanistan’s Hazara people led to the writing of his first novel, The Kite Runner. Amir’s quest to redeem himself makes up the heart of the novel. Early on, Amir strives to redeem himself in Baba’s eyes, and he feels responsible for that. To redeem himself to Baba, Amir thinks that he must win the kite tournament and bring Baba the losing kite, both of which are inciting incidents that set the rest of the novel in motion. The more substantial part of Amir’s quest for redemption, however, stems from his guilt regarding Hassan. The guilt drives the climactic events of the story, including Amir’s journey to Kabul to find Sohrab and his confrontation with Assef. The moral standard that Amir must meet his redemption is set early in the book when Baba says that a boy who doesn’t stand up for himself becomes a man who can’t stand up to anything. As a boy, Amir fails to stand up for himself. As an adult, he can only redeem himself, by proving he has the courage to stand up for what is right.

Abstract

Arabic learning activities in the scientific tradition of UIN Alauddin Makassar in the last 20 years, in this case from 2001 to 2021, have gone through a long historical process. During this time, several innovative Arabic learning programs have been developed, in this case the Foreign Language Intensification Program (PIBA), the Enlightenment of Faith and Life Skills Program (PIKIH), the Character Building Program (CBP), and are currently returning to the Intensification of Foreign Languages (PIBA) with an orientation towards strengthening the Testof Arabic as a Foreign Language (TOAFL). In the anthropolinguistic perspective which includes, 1) language aspect in the form of learning Arabic which includes the study of paralinguistic, proxemic or kinetic texts and co-texts, 2) culture aspect in the form of scientific traditions which include studies of cultural contexts or co-texts of material elements and 3) other aspects of human life in the study of constructive relations between Arabic learning and scientific traditions that cover social contexts, situations, and ideologies, it can be seen that Arabic language learning in the scientific tradition of UIN Alauddin Makassar always moves dynamically in the locus of scientific philosophy which is the magnum opus of policy-making programs of innovative Arabic learning in support of the institutional vision.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced people to work from home. Behavioral adjustments during the Covid-19 pandemic due to changes in work and study patterns from home have significantly impacted daily activities at home. However, the problem is that not all houses have a special space for work/study, especially for small-type dwellings with limited space. This study aims to reveal the form of adaptation in providing space to work from home and the level of comfort, especially for residents of row houses. The researcher uses a quantitative descriptive method in percentage figures to show the condition of community adaptation to the space to work and comfort level. This research was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 250 residents of row houses in Makassar. The results show that community adaptation in providing space to work from home is by function and modifying space. In space function, people generally use the living room as a workspace. The adaptation pattern is usually made by adding furniture, changing furniture, rearranging furniture. Meanwhile, to get comfort, respondents are generally influenced by two aspects. Aspects of the physical environment are significantly indicated by personal space and privacy. While aspects of the psychic environment were significantly shown in noise, spatial area, and air temperature. Although the space is limited and many distractions occur, most people claim they are pretty comfortable and feel more productive while working from home.
