Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is defined as a condition in which an individual has a systolic blood pressure ? 140 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure ? 90 mmHg. Systolic blood pressure is the main measure used to diagnose hypertension. Hypertension is often referred to as a "silent killer" due to its asymptomatic nature, causing patients to be unaware of their condition. Globally, 1.28 billion people are affected by hypertension; in Indonesia, 70 million people (28%) have hypertension, with Jakarta ranking 9th among Indonesian provinces in 2017 with a prevalence of 33.43%. Methods: This study employed a descriptive narrative case study design. The subjects were three adult patients diagnosed with hypertension. Results: The case study showed a non-pharmacological effect of lavender aromatherapy in lowering blood pressure among hypertensive patients. All three patients were given lavender aromatherapy over three days. The goal was to reduce pain and stabilize blood pressure. Expected outcomes included decreased pain complaints, improved vital signs, and reduced BP. Conclusion: This study suggests that lavender aromatherapy can serve as an alternative nursing intervention for reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients and can be independently administered by nurses as a non-pharmacological therapy.

Abstract

Introduction: Health literacy is a competence that is not only important for patients but also for nursing students. Nursing students will interact with patients with varying health literacy levels during their education and throughout their careers. Despite its importance, research on health literacy among professional nursing students is limited. This study aims to assess the health literacy practices of professional nursing students in Makassar City. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey approach. The population in this study consisted of nursing students in the professional nursing stage. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling with consecutive sampling. The respondents involved in this study were 72 nursing students. Data collection was conducted online using a Google Form. The analysis used descriptive statistics, with the results showing frequency distribution, mean, and SD. The study found that among the students, 69.4% were aged 17-25 years, with a mean age of 26.22. The majority were female (75.0%), and from South Sulawesi (80.6%). Related to their education, 73.6% were in the first semester of clinical placement, and have graduated from bachelor of nursing within a year (90.3%). In addition, the average scores for the four aspects of health literacy were: knowledge 14.31 (SD 1.41), communication 34.32 (SD 4.22), shared decision-making 41.11 (SD 5.60), and interpersonal skills 37.49 (SD 4.54). As health literacy is a dynamic skill that needs to be improved through training and experience, nursing education programs must continue to develop students' health literacy competencies from the undergraduate level to the clinical placement stage. Continuous training and periodic assessment of health literacy competencies are recommended to ensure students can apply their knowledge in practice.

Abstract

Introduction: Background: Non-compliance with TB treatment is one of the main and most crucial challenges in global TB control efforts. This condition contributes to high rates of treatment failure. Approximately 40% of patients in developing countries are known to have low compliance with pulmonary TB treatment. Methods: This was a descriptive case study using a pre- and post-test approach. The instrument used in this case study was the 8-Item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale questionnaire to measure the level of medication adherence among tuberculosis patients, namely Ms. S. This study was conducted in the treatment room of the Infection Center RSUP Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar held from June 27, 2025 to July 11, 2025. Before conducting the intervention, the researchers obtained informed consent from the patients and their families, and the study obtained permission from the hospital. Result: The provision of structured educational interventions and daily reminders in the form of reminder books can be considered effective in improving medication adherence among TB patients, as evidenced by the post-intervention questionnaire score of 6 (moderate adherence level), which increased from the pre-intervention questionnaire score of 1 (low adherence level). Conclusion: From this case study, it was found that the implementation of structural educational interventions and daily reminders was effective in improving medication adherence among TB patients.

Abstract

Introduction: The rapid growth of population and economic activity has exacerbated waste management challenges in Indonesia, including in West Aceh Regency. The imbalance between waste generation and the capacity of existing management systems has led to waste accumulation in various locations, particularly in densely populated areas. This study aims to examine the role of the Environmental Agency (DLH) in addressing waste congestionand to identify the supporting and constraining factors that influence the implementation of waste management policies in West Aceh Regency. A qualitative descriptive design with a phenomenological approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences and perceptions of waste management stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document review using purposive sampling, involving DLH officials, sanitation workers, and community members. Data analysis was conducted through iterative processes of reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings indicate that the West Aceh DLH plays a strategic role in waste management through the implementation of a controlled landfill system, community education on waste segregation, and strengthened cross- sectoral collaboration such as waste bank initiatives and communal clean-up activities. However, policy effectiveness remains constrained by limitedfacilities and infrastructure, insufficient human resources, and low community participation in fee payment and waste sorting practices. In conclusion, successful waste management in West Aceh requires greater synergy among institutional capacity, regulatory support, and community-based social awareness to ensure sustainable waste governance.

Abstract

Introduction: Chest radiography is a fundamental imaging modality used to detect abnormalities of the lungs and heart. The quality of the produced images is critical to ensuring diagnostic accuracy. However, several challenges—such as variations in examination techniques, patient positioning, exposure parameters, and equipment condition—can compromise radiographic quality. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing chest radiography quality and to evaluate the imaging standards applied at the Radiology Department of Dr. M. Haulussy Ambon Regional General Hospital.A mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses, was employed. Quantitative data were obtained from 100 chest radiograph samples, while qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews with radiographers and radiologists. The quantitative analysis revealed that 65% of the radiographs were of good quality, 25% were adequate, and 10% required repetition. Qualitative findings indicated that limited routine training, aging equipment, and inconsistencies in radiographic techniques among practitioners were key factors contributing to reduced image quality.Based on these findings, practical recommendations were proposed to enhance operational standards and strengthen human resource competencies. The study provides a valuable basis for continuous quality improvement in radiology services, particularly in hospitals within Eastern Indonesia

Abstract

Reproductive health knowledge is essential for maternal wellbeing, family planning, and public health. This study aimed to describe mothers’ knowledge of reproductive health in Bulupoddo, Sinjai. A descriptive survey design was employed, involving mothers of reproductive age as study participants. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire covering key aspects of reproductive health, including anatomy and physiology, reproductive hygiene, family planning, and prevention of reproductive health problems. Descriptive statistical analysis was applied to summarize respondents’ knowledge levels. The results showed that mothers’ knowledge of reproductive health was generally very low. In most assessed domains, the proportion of correct responses was below 50%, indicating insufficient understanding of basic reproductive health concepts. Limited knowledge was particularly evident in areas related to reproductive function, risk factors for reproductive health disorders, and appropriate preventive practices. These findings suggest that the majority of respondents had not received adequate or effective reproductive health information. In conclusion, mothers’ knowledge of reproductive health in Bulupoddo, Sinjai remains inadequate and falls below an acceptable level. This condition highlights the urgent need for comprehensive and culturally appropriate reproductive health education programs. Strengthening health promotion and community-based education, particularly through primary health care services, is essential to improve mothers’ knowledge and support better reproductive health outcomes.
